Part 05
Leaving the classroom, Billy’s face lit up at the sight of Joel leaning against his locker; his grin quickly fading at the black eye and bloody nose. “Joel, what happened? Are you ok?”
Joel nodded. “I’m fine.”
“You don’t look fine,” Billy sighed as he slammed his locker door shut. Glancing around the corridor, he grabbed Joel’s elbow and steered him into an empty room. He pointed to the table, instructing Joel to sit as he straddled a chair in front of him. “Please don’t tell me your brother did this to you,” Billy asked softly, cupping Joel’s bruised cheek in his hand.”
Tears tracked down Joel’s face and he pulled away from Billy. Wrapping his arms around his waist, he slipped off the table and crossed the room, staring out of the window.
Billy swore under his breath as he moved to stand behind Joel. Wrapping his arms around his waist, he rested his head on his boyfriend‘s shoulder. “I’m sorry Joel,” he whispered in his ear. “So fucking sorry.”
Joel shook his head. “Not your fault,” he replied softly, turning around and pulling Billy close.
Sighing, Billy accepted the hug for a few seconds before pulling back and kissing Joel’s tears away. “Yes it is,” he answered, his own tears over spilling. “It is my fault. If I hadn’t run, if I had stuck up for you, for us, then Benji wouldn’t… and you wouldn’t and…”
Joel cut him off, kissing him on the lips. “Benji’s a jerk.”
“But… Actually, no; I’m not gonna disagree. Benji is a jerk.” He smiled at Joel’s soft giggle. “We should get home, what with you being grounded and all. And, you’re probably safer at home. From Benji. If he was…. Not at home. With your mom and…”
“I thought I was the babbler.” Joel teased, his fingers tangling with Billy’s as they walked out of the classroom and out of the school, following the familiar route to Billy’s house.
Billy blushed, grinned and ducked his head. “Uhmm.” He replied, scuffing his feet on the pavement. “What you gonna do?”
Joel shrugged. “Don’t know. Think of something to tell Mom and try to avoid Benji for a while.”
They came to a stop outside Billy’s front door, Billy leaning on the wall. “You know you can come over here, whenever you need to. My Mom loves you,” he grinned, “so its not like she’d mind.”
“Thanks.” Joel smiled shyly as he leaned forward and kissed Billy. “I might need to take you up on that. Especially over the summer. After I’m un-grounded. I’ll uhh see you in school tomorrow?”
Billy nodded. “Yeah,” he agreed, kissing Joel again. He tentatively deepened the kiss, stomach flipping when Joel responded. Moaning softly, he slid an arm around Joel’s neck, pulling him even closer as they kissed. “Wow,” he mumbled against Joel’s mouth
“Yeah,” Joel agreed, nipping lightly on Billy’s lips. “That was…” he kissed Billy lightly on the lips, pulling back to meet his eyes. “I… Uhm… I really like you, Billy.”
“I really like you too, Joel.” Billy replied quietly, grinning at Joel. “So. Um.”
“Yeah.” Joel giggled awkwardly, chewing on his lower lip. “I hate to do this but…”
“You gotta get home,” Billy finished for him.
“Yeah. I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault.” Billy shrugged one shoulder, stealing another kiss from Joel. They grinned at each other again. “Promise me you’ll be careful?”
Joel nodded. “I’ll be careful, Billy. I promise.”
“Cool.” They kissed again. “Be safe and I’ll see you tomorrow.” Leaning against his front door, Billy watched Joel walking down to road, waving to him before he walked around the corner and out of sight.
Whistling to himself, Joel shoved his hands in his pockets, his mind racing as he walked into the park
