Shoot

NOTE: So sorry this and many others of my stories are taking forever to be updated. I am in one of the many areas hit by hurricane Katrina so I have been taking care of things dealing with that. I am trying my hardest to update them and I promise I am getting them done as fast as possible. Soon they all will be updated. thanks for reading this!

"Only thing I know is that I'm about to kill myself or someone."
"I'm sorry sir. But all I asked was what you wanted to order."
"Oh, right. I guess I'll have the cheese pizza."
"May I ask why you want to kill yourself or someone?"
"Shoot."
"Ugh ok..why do you want to kill yourself or someone?"

I took in what I hoped to be my last breath. The world kept on spinning no matter hard I prayed it wouldn't.

The fluorescent lights of the cheap diner were causing my eyes to squint and my head to feel as light as a feather.

"Because someone left me. She's never coming back."
"Oh, a girlfriend?"
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry. Why'd she leave you?"
"She fell in love with someone else."
"I know that's gotta be hard. I just got a great girlfriend who left her boyfriend to be with me."
"What's her name?" I spit out the words like venom.
"Jess."

I sat back and relaxed my fist. I was too close to harming a man who had only concerned himself with me, not harmed. I had to get out of the small box that enclosed me. Not the diner but the things that restricted me in my mind. The pain, the loss, the stupidity.

“A-a-mber?” I stuttered while trying to figure out if I was hallucinating or not.
“Billie..” My dream muttered out as if disappointed that it was me.

Her eyes scanned the room, looking for a way to get out of talking to me. Her face seemed so different from how I remembered it. She used to seem so peacefully yet broken. But then she looked broken…no peace.

“What are you doing here?” Such a silly question. Why would anyone be in a grocery store? To buy groceries but I was just trying to make conversation.

“I um…buying food.”
“For you and your boyfriend?” I said it too bitterly. I just knew I had.
“No. We broke up.”
“Sorry.”

I wasn’t sorry at all. Maybe she regretted leaving me. Maybe she regretted having her and the other guy break up.

I suddenly became like a tiger about to pounce on its prey. I wanted, scratch that, needed her. My lips curled into a sly smile.

“Is there any way I can help?? Dinner? Movie?”

Her eyes lit up. I had her where I wanted her.

“Sure! I miss being your friend.”

I was wrong. It felt like someone punched me in the stomach. My breath was hard to catch, my heart was beating fast, and my smile faded.

“I miss that too.”

I was becoming an amazing liar.
