chapter 5

Sorry it’s been a while, I had a heap of course work to finish by Jan 13th and now it’s all done so back to the important stuff. Sorry if it’s still going slow but I’m building to it and want to add a few twists along the way.

Thanks to Smoothiequeen for the positive reviews, hope you like this chapter.

Billie watched Sam stalk from one end of the room to the other. He attempted to gage what kind of mood he was in but as always it was impossible to tell. His pattern of thought was disturbed by the arrival of Tre collapsing heavily down onto a box next to him.

“ What’s up with you?”

“ How much longer is this gonna take!” Tre groaned, covering his face with his hands.

“I don’t know, don’t tell me you’re bored already?”

“I was bored as soon as I got here today...nothings happening!”

“Yeah, and besides that, we don’t have an alternative interest like you do?” Mike called out as he pulled out the box from underneath Tre, sending him sprawling on the floor in a star shape.

“What?” Billie glanced up, confused.

“Don’t pretend you don’t know. That girl from yesterday..Tallie.”

“Oh, her. “ Billie replied, shrugging off the comment. “ I was just helping her out.”

“Is that what you call it?” Mike laughed, shoving him. “Hey, that’s her now isn’t it?”. All three of them glanced up to see Tallie flying towards them at top speed, her bag banging heavily against her back as she ran. She wore a pink and black striped sweater that hung down over black denim hot pants with matching pink and black tights underneath.
Tallie felt them staring at her as she passed and looked up giving a brief smile before rushing away, feeling her cheeks burning. Fuck it, why did she just start blushing, like that was going to look so good. Why did they all have to be staring at her like that, she guessed Billie had probably said something about her, but what...

“Ah, on time today that makes a change.”
She snapped out of her trail of thought to see Sam in front of her looking just as annoyed as he had been yesterday.

“Yeah, don’t fucking start on me already. “

“I’m not starting anything, I need you to get the shot finished so we can start editing, do you think you can do that...huh ?” Sam put his hand on her shoulder in an attempt to stop another outburst.

“Whatever, just don’t touch me.” Tallie shrugged him off and headed over to the back of the set. It didn’t take long to set the wires and finish off the safety checks. She timed the two drums slightly apart so that one explosion preceded the other for extra effect, that surely had to impress Sam. Her mind wandered briefly onto Jamie for a moment, he was definitely playing with fire if he thought he was going to get away with what he had done. Her fingers gripped angrily to the tape as she stuck the wires to the sides of the drum. It seemed like life was on a downward spiral right now, first Jamie and that stupid slut faced bitch that he had decided to be with and then Billie...yeah he was just as confusing. One thing was for sure, she was not going to make the same mistake twice, if men liked to play their games then let them, there was no way she would be part of it.

“I gotta say it, I’m impressed.” Sam stated ten minutes later, surveying the set.

“You didn’t think I could do it?”

“No, I didn’t. Let’s hope you have proved me wrong.” He muttered, stalking away. Tallie sat down in the corner, on her bag to roll yet another cigarette. She figured that watching the final few takes with her handiwork in the background was today’s perk of the job. Laying back she watched the guitar techs set up the equipment for the band and Sam stressing out in a corner. The bleep from her mobile came from the depths of her bag, jumping to grab at it Tallie realised it was from Jamie. Her fingers hovered over the buttons as the band started playing. She had two choices, either read what the idiot had to say or erase it without ever knowing. Curiosity got the better of her. ‘Tallie, don’t call or text me again. Please erase my number.Jx’ Tallie gritted her teeth, he had the cheek to put a kiss at the end, the asshole. It took a great amount of pleasure to press ‘erase’ and wipe his pathetic message for ever. Throwing the phone aside she went back to watching what was going on and almost couldn’t take in what she was seeing. There in front of her was Billie and the other guys he had been talking to earlier, why hadn’t he told her he was in the band.

Billie watched her, aware that he was supposed to be concentrating on the video that was being filmed but she looked so utterly shocked. It almost made him laugh, he had presumed that she knew who he was but maybe she didn’t. The look on her face gave that much away. She sat transfixed, watching, her chin resting on her knees. Her expression was shaded by the thick tendrils of black hair that hung in waves over her face, a few seconds later when he glanced back over she had gone.

Tallie strode past Sam, not even acknowledging his presence. She found herself sitting on the low wall outside, her feet scuffed back and forth against the gravel making two lines in front of her. Her phone buzzed twice, sighing she flicked a glance towards the display. Missed calls, two, Jamie.
“Fuck you.” She muttered, launching the phone towards the wall behind her. “Right on target.” She added, hearing it smash and fall in pieces onto the floor. The midday sun beat down against her face, taking her shades from her bag and removing her sweater and throwing it aside Tallie jumped down from the wall and leaned back to absorb the rays. Why did all men have to be the same, not that it was any big deal that Billie hadn’t told her who he was but then why did he want to keep something like that to himself. Feeling her eyes closing she shoved the sweater behind her head as a pillow and felt her mind wander.

“Hey!”
Tallie jumped as something bounced off of her forehead and landed on the gravel beside her.

“What the fuck was that?” She glanced up angrily to see Billie grinning down at her with a cigarette stuck in his mouth.

“What?”

“I mean whatever it was that you just threw at me!”

“I didn’t throw anything.”

“You fucking well did.” Tallie sat up to survey the ground in case the offending item was in view, it wasn’t. “I know you threw something...what’s so funny?”

“Nothing, I just like getting you all angry.” Billie replied, laughing at Tallie’s scowling face.

“You’re weird, leave me alone.”

“Maybe, I came to ask you something actually but if you’re not interested I won’t bother.” He turned away knowing he wouldn’t have to wait too long.

“Ask me what?”
Tallie’s face had softened slightly, looking curiously up at him. One thing about this girl, he thought to himself, she could go from one extreme to another. Playing on her interest he turned away again and after flicking his cigarette butt into a nearby bush, headed back towards the doorway.

“Wait up!” She called from behind. Billie stopped and waited for her to catch up.

“Come on, ask me what?”

“Oh nothing important, we’re all going for a drink after this is all finished. I don’t suppose you would want to join us?”
Tallie thought for a moment, a drink, that didn’t sound too bad. But then this was the guy that hadn’t told her anything about himself and just made her feel like she was more than an idiot.
“Well?” He said suddenly, breaking her train of thought.

“Yeah ok,” She blurted out, with a slight notion that maybe she should have said no, but now it was too late.

“Cool, now all you have to do is keep that frown off your face and put your phone back together.”

“I don’t think there’s any chance of that!”

“What, that you’re gonna take that frown off your face?”

“Will you shuttup!” Tallie gave him a playful shove. “I meant about the phone, it’s beyond repair and right now I don’t give a shit!” She said, flinching as Billie put an arm round her, his hand rested above her waist.

“You think you can go a whole night without losing your temper?”

“I doubt it.” Tallie grinned, he certainly seemed to know what he was doing but that wasn’t going to make any difference. After Jamie, men weren’t her highest priority. In fact they weren’t any priority, and she was going to make sure that nothing was going to change.
