chapter 5
Chapter 5, people!!! Ok it's kinda short and sickly sweet but i hope you enjoy it anyway. I might finish it here depending on how many people want me to continue so please review and let me know what you think.
Once again this is dedicated to karin who has been cheering me up when I'm down and making me want to write, thank you angel!
Dunn thought he was seeing things as he dragged himself out of bed and down to the kitchen to get coffe and asprin for his hangover, only to see Bam out of his bedroom for once and sitting on the pool side, dangling his feet in the water and looking like he was a million miles away.
"Ya know, they say it helps to talk"
Bam jumped, startled as he heard the voice behind him. "Nothing to talk about, I'm fine."
"Damn, I think that's the worst told lie I've ever heard!" Dunn grinned sitting down with him. "I've known you for years. You don't have to keep up the act, you're allowed to be unhappy sometimes."
Bam looked into Dunn's eyes, searching for some indication that he was lying. "Fine. Ok, I'm gonna tell you but you have to promise not to judge me, laugh at me or tell ANYONE about this."
"I promise, you can trust me." Dunn turned so he was facing Bam and made himself comfortable as Bam explained. Bam told him the whole thing, relieved to finally be able to tell someone. Once he was finished, he looked up and waited for Dunn's reaction.
"You had internet sex with Ville and you didn't even know it was him?!" Dunn exclaimed
"Is that the only thing you heard?" Bam asked in frustration
"No, of course not, but that's the bit that sticks out the most! I get why you're angry at him but does it really matter in the end? You have the guy you love so forget about it and move on."
"It's not that easy. He lied to me and it hurt so much, and I've never felt like this about a guy before and it's freaking me out."
"Ok, first off, you're not angry at him, you're hurt because he lied, but in a way, you lied to him too by not being honest about your feelings even though it hurt you."
"Thank you Oprah" Bam interupted sarcastically
"And secondly," Dunn continued, ignoring Bam's bitching "Everyone's had feelings for someone of the same sex before. You need to stop thinking of him by his gender and start thinking of him as a person."
"Who was it for you?"
"What?" Dunn's face scrunched up as he tried to work out what Bam was asking
"You said that everyone has feelings like mine at some point. What guy did you have feelings for?"
"We're not talking about me, we're talking about you. Are you gonna try and forgive him and stop worrying about the fact that he's male?"
"Yeah, it's not going to be easy though. So tell me who the guy was. I'm not gonna give up until you tell me."
"Fine. I knew I shouldn't have said anything." Dunn scowled. "It was years ago and it was just a crush that I'm totally over now."
"So who was he?"
"You."
Bam's mouth dropped open in shock. "ME?"
"Yeah. Remember that fight that I had with Knoxville when I first met him? It was cos he said he wanted to sleep with you and I was drunk and jealous, it kind of went on from there."
"Knoxville?" Bam said weakly. He hadn't expected any of this when he decided to confide in his best friend.
"Don't worry, I haven't had feelings for you for ages and Knoxville just wanted to fuck anything that moved."
Even when Bam could talk through the shock, he couldn't think of anything to say and Dunn seemed to notice his problem.
"Look, I don't want this to affect our friendship. You asked me and I told you. I don't feel anything like that towards you now and I'm glad that you and Ville can be together."
Bam got up to leave, giving Dunn a hug as he did. "Thanks dude. Ya know, I'm actually quite flattered! You're still my best mate, nothing's gonna change that."
He went to get ready for his date, not noticing Dunn's face change into a look of complete sadness as he walked away.
As he made himself look pretty, he found himself worrying about whether Ville would like his outfit or the way he'd done his hair. He finally settled on his favourite pair of faded jeans and a black silk shirt with the top four buttons left undone and his black rosary beads.
He was trying to stop his hair being so unruly when the doorbell rang. He rushed down the stairs and waited at the door a few moments before answering it, not wanting to seem too eager.
"Hey. You didn't tell me where we were going so I hope this is ok" Bam said, gesturing towards his outfit once he'd opened the door.
"You look gorgeous Bam. I know flowers are kind of traditional on a first date but I didn't think you'd appreciate them so I brought you this instead. Ville handed him something, smiling bashfully and Bam took it, only to realize it was the new, unreleased HIM album.
His eyes lit up at the sight and he gave the Finn a beaming smile that made Ville's heart flutter.
"Does this mean I'll be the first person to hear this?!"
"Apart from the band and the people who worked on it with us, yeah."
"Shall we take the lambo to wherever we're going?"
Ville agreed so they headed round to the garage and got into the purple sports car, Bam immediately putting in his new cd and turning up the volume.
"Ok, now you have to tell me where we're going cos I'm driving!" Bam said triumphantly but Ville only smirked at him.
"No I don't, I'm just gonna give you the directions! and as pleased as I am that you like the cd, do we have to listen to my voice the entire journey?"
"Yes. I want to hear how good it is and I don't want to wait." Bam replied childishly
"Ok." Ville sighed, knowing that there was no point in arguing as Bam always got his own way.
They were halfway through the album by the time they got to where they were going. It was a small, intimate looking restaurant at the side of a lake. They both got out of the car and Ville hurried round to Bam's side. "Close your eyes"
"Ville, I hate to burst your bubble but I think I've worked out where we're going now!" Bam laughed
"I know that Brandon! Just humor me" Ville responded with a smile. Bam obeyed Ville's wishes and closed his eyes, letting Ville guide him. When he was allowed to open his eyes, he gasped at what he saw. On the patio leading down to the lake, a table had been set for the two of them with small lamps dotted about everywhere giving the place a beautiful glow as the sun started to set.
"I rented the entire place so it's just us. I thought we could have something to eat and watch the sun set over the lake." Ville led him over to the table and almost immediately a waiter came over with a bottle of champagne and poured them both a glass. He handed them both a menu before leaving them.
Thye studied their menu's enjoying the tranquility of the place before the waiter came back, with perfect timing, to take their orders. They both decided against starters and Bam ordered a steak, done medium rare with a pepper sauce while Ville decided on mediterranean vegetable pasta with a dressed side salad.
As they waited for their food to arrive an akward silence decended between them as they watched the beautiful sunset and thought about how different things were between them. Suprisingly, Bam was the first to break it.
"No one's ever put in this much effort for me before. I should be feeling like a pussy right now cos I'm kinda being the girl here, but I don't actually care. It's just nice that someone's done something like this for me." He kept his eyes on the horizon even though the sun had already disappeared, not wanting to meet Ville's eyes while making the confession.
"I'm glad you like it, you're worth it you know."
Their conversation was interupted by the waiter as he brought their food. Silence fell again as they focused on the delicious food in front of them, although this time, the silence wasn't uncomfortable. Eventually they started to make random chatter about their lives although neither of them brought up the subject they both knew they had to talk about eventually.
"Hey Ville, wanna go skinny dipping after we eat?!"
Ville laughed, glad to see the old Bam returning instead of the akward, unsure Bam that he'd seen lately. "I don't think the restaurant staff get paid enough to see that and the water looks really cold so I'm gonna say no, but you can if you want!"
"Spoil sport!" Bam mock-pouted "I'm not gonna do it if you're not!"
After sitting and drinking champagne and listening to the sounds of the evening, they decided to leave so the staff could go home. They got back into the lambo and just sat there for a while.
"So, what now? Do you want to go home or do you want to do something else?" Ville asked nervously, worried that Bam had decided that being out with another man was too weird and he'd changed his mind on the whole thing.
"I don't want to go home yet, is that ok?" Ville's head shot up from where he'd been closely inspecting his chipped nail polish, to look at Bam's blushing face.
"Of course that's ok." He said gently, trying to force a grin off his face. "What do you want to do?"
"Can we go and take a walk on the beach? I love it at night, it's so relaxing and... I dunno, I just like it." Bam shrugged, embarrassed.
"It sounds wonderful darling."
The short drive to the beach was, once again, filled with Ville's voice flowing from the speakers as they finished listening to the album.
"Oh my god, that was fantastic! I think it's your best album so far!" Bam gushed once the cd had stopped
"Bam, you say that about EVERY album!" Ville chuckled
"Well that's cos every album you do gets better and better!"
Ville just shook his head, laughing, as he got out of the car and inhaled the salty air from the sea. They took off their shoes and walked slowly down the beach, walking so close to the sea that gentle waves lapped against their toes.
"We can't keep ignoring the situation and hope it will go away." Ville said suddenly. "We need to sort this out now so we can move on. I don't want to ruin the date but the sooner we get this over with, the easier it will be for us."
"I know." Bam paused for a second, looking down at the wet sand beneath his feet. "I told Dunn everything this morning, I hope you don't mind, but I was confused."
"I don't mind but does this mean he hates me now?"
"No, he was cool about it actually, although he confessed he used to have a crush on me! don't tell anyone though, I think he's kind of embarrassed about it."
"Dunn? Really? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed. What did he say then?"
"He gave me some good advice actually. He said that I should be able to forgive you cos you weren't doing it to hurt me and in a way I lied to you too. He also said that I need to stop freaking myself out by focusing on the fact that we're both guys and concentrate on the fact that you're the person that I love."
"Sounds like good advice, but can you do it or is it going to be too hard?" Ville could hear his voice shaking with nerves but he couldn't control it. He knew if Bam said he couldn't forgive him, he would never forgive himself for messing up the best thing that could ever have happened to him.
"I think that I can." Bam stepped forward and claimed Ville's lips in a gentle yet passionate kiss that left them both breathless.
Ville pulled back but kept his arms around Bam, holding him against his body, unwilling to let him go. "I think that was the most perfect kiss I've ever had" he said softly, pressing his forehead aginst Bam's, lovingly. "I promise you, I'll never lie to you again, I'm so sorry that I did."
"Ssh, it's ok baby. I'm not mad at you, I never was, I was just hurt but you're so worth it. But I think you're wrong about that being the perfect kiss."
"Really?" Ville leaned back to look at Bam's face, an eyebrow raised
"Yeah, I think we could do so much better, we just have to keep trying!" Bam smirked impishly and he pulled Ville back towards him, proving his point as they stood in the sand at the place that marked the beginning of their new relationship.
