Glancing across the room, I caught someones eye and found myself smiling. To my surprise, they smiled back! That someone was Lauri Ylönen, lead singer of up and coming band 'Rasmus' He didn't seem to be put of by the hyper-active 2 year old that held my hand, despite his youth. While I was nearing 19, I knew Lauri was still only 17. After a few stolen glances, Lauri headed over,
"I'm Lauri," He said, offering a hand.
"Ville," I replied, shaking his. Lily let go of my hand, and gave Lauri a little wave, a smile planted firmly on her face. "This is my daughter, Lily" I say as I ruffle her hair.
"Yes, I know...you were at the record company in the week....you left your demo...I can't stop listening to it, especially 'Wicked Game' you're very talented," He tells me, his face a deep crimson. I laugh, his flushed cheeks making him look cute.
"We haven't heard back from them yet," I tell him, "But give it time..." I don't get to finish, Lily has detached herself from me, and gone running to the shop doorway where a man in a bear suit, is handing out balloons advertising a new Disney movie.
"BEEEAAARRRR..." She cries. I give Lauri an apologetic look, and he slips a piece of paper in my hand.
"My number...I've been wanting to bring it over for a while..." Again he blushes, and I find myself giggling, "I have to go, we have a show tonight...call me?" I nod automatically, I can't help myself...hes just so...WOW!
"Lily Jules Valo, get back here right now..." I say, trying not to raise my voice too much, after all, she is only 2, and the bear was the reason we were in the store... Lily stirs me from my thoughts by tugging on my hand, in her tiny fist she clutches the strings of two balloons.
"I got you a balloon daddy, but they didn't have black ones so I got you a blue one," She says, her face beaming. How can I stay mad at that..?
A year later, and HIM are yet to be signed, but Lauri and I have built a strong, loving relationship. Lily however, has changed. No longer is she a terrible two year old, but a clingy three year old. Her behaviour confuses me, shes been through the cling phase... She doesn't like Lauri much either, she's almost...scared of him, but I just put it down to jealousy..
After putting Lily to bed, and giving her a bath, Lauri comes down stairs with a satisfied look on his face. He takes an age to give her a bath and put her to bed...I've found it odd as of late - Why does it take him so long?
"What took you so long?" I ask a he plants a sweet kiss on my cheek. He shrugs, anger flashing in his eyes, as if it were a bad thing for me to dare question why he took his time. I frown, his reaction adding to my suspicions. I tell him I'm heading for a bath of my own, then I head to Lily's room...
Before I even open the door, I hear her whimpering, and, as I do open the door, I hear her muffled cries,
"NO! I don't want to...don't like it..." I instantly run over to her, pulling her out from under her covers.
"Lily, darling its OK...Its daddy...I'm hear..." I tell her, my voice frantic with worry. She simply clings to me, and my concerns deepen. "What did he do to you Kulta, did he hurt you...?" I'm almost afraid of her answer...
"He touched me...down there...it hurt...." I feel sick, physically sick... He'd sexually abused my daughter! All I want to do, is go downstairs and tear his head from his shoulders, but first, I need to get more information from Lily.
"Did he...did he...put anything...in you?" I ask, choosing my words carefully. I can't scare her. She nods and I begin to tremble. "What..?" I ask.
"Fingers...and something big...something I don't have..." I put Lily back in bed, tuck her in, tell her not to worry and that I'll be back soon. She trembles and tries to cling to me again, it breaks my heart, but I have to deal with Lauri right now, or god only knows where my anger will be aimed.
"You fucker! You cunt, you assaulted my daughter!" I scream with rage as I fly into the kitchen. I catch Lauri by surprise and soon, I have him on the floor. "You bastard! Shes three! She's still a baby, she's my baby! What the fuck possessed you too do that!" I cry, tears streaming down my face, my fist raining down punches onto Lauri's face. It isn't long before he's battered, bruised and bleeding...
An hour later, and I'm at the hospital, the police had been called after my neighbours heard Lauri's screams. I'd been arrested, but released without charge after the truth had been reveled.
"Daddy make him stop..." Lily whimpers, gripping my hand as a doctor examines her. My heart shatters because I know that to help, he has to continue.
"It'll be over soon, hes making you better..." I tell her, trying to reassure her. A doctor pulls me aside as the examination finishes.
"She's very red, they're are obvious signs of penetration..." Its then, the final realization that my boyfriend had raped my three year old, that I empty the contents of mt stomach on the floor. I go outside for some fresh air, and find myself buying my first pack of fags since Lily's birth. I smoke 5 straight before my phone rings.
"Congratulations Mr Valo, HIM have a recording contract.."
But I can't even be happy. My three year old daughter was raped by the man I thought I loved... I vow never to date another man again...
