"Will you stay?
Stay ‘till the darkness leaves
Stay here with me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelly laughed as she listened to the play back of the song. For some reason, she had gotten distracted while singing the background vocals, and somehow jumped into the main vocals, only to go on and completely butcher the lyrics.
"That was brilliant," Jim, the producer laughed. "But I have to give you credit cause you stayed in key the entire time."
"I don't know what happened," Kelly replied, her shoulders still shaking with laughter. "I was there and I had it, and then something caught my eye, and all of a sudden I was trying to remember if I turned the oven off or not this morning."
"You wanna give it another try?"
"Yea," she nodded, standing up and going back into the recording booth.
"Kelly," she heard Jim's voice through the speaker.
"Yea?" she asked, pausing as she went to put on her headphones.
"You're phone's ringing."
"Does it say who it is?"
"No, just a number," her replied.
"Then just ignore it," she shrugged.
"I think we got it," Jim smiled, squeezing Kelly's shoulder as she smiled broadly.
"That sounds great," she replied; the song's melody was stuck in her head which was always a good sign.
"Oh, don't forget your phone," he said as they stood up.
"Thanks again," she said, giving the legendary country music producer another hug. "I know you were taking a risk doing this, but I really think it's gonna pay off."
"It was nothing," he assured her. "And any other song you want to work on, just give me a call."
"You rock," she smiled giving him one last hug, making him laugh, before she walked out of the studio.
She glanced down at her phone to see that she had two missed calls and a text from the same number. She opened the text message.
Hey it's Carrie.
Kelly smiled, as she called the country singer back. She heard someone pick up, and she immediately apologized.
"Hey Carrie, I'm sorry I didn't pick up. I was in the studio," she explained.
"Kell?" a voice sniffed.
"Are you ok?" Kelly asked worriedly.
"I just, um, I needed someone to talk to, and I thought you might understand..."
"Where are you right now?"
"My apartment."
"Alright, wait there. I'll be there in a minute ok," she assured her. "You're not hurt or anything, are you?"
"No, I'm fine," Carrie replied, her voice weak. "You don't have to come. I just didn't know who else to call."
"I'm coming. I just need directions," Kelly said, realizing she had no idea where the other blonde lived.
