Carla (My Mom)

It was my Mom. I put my head down hoping she wouldn’t see me. I can’t let her see me like this, she’ll probably think Marshall did it then she’ll freak out. “Carrie is that you?” she asked as we got closer to her.
“Who is that?” Marshall asked confused.
“My Mother,” I said not happy, we stopped and waited for her to come over.
“Carrie, come here and give your Mother a big ol hug,” my Mom insisted hugging me without my consent.
“Hi Mom,” I said pulling away. Marshall just stood there like he felt out of place. My Mom and are like sisters, my Dad was a drunk and left when I was five so she was all that I had for a long time. Bad thing about her, she don’t like Eminem because…I really don’t know why, I think it’s because of the song ‘Kim’ like he’d really do that. My Mom stared at Marshall.
“So you’re dating Eminem,” my Mom said. “What a small world,” she added, she seemed pissed off.
“Don’t be like that Mom. What’s your problem with Em…Marshall anyway?” I questioned in defense of Marshall. She sighed loudly.
“So…what’s your name?” Marshall asked staring at my Mom.
“Carla,” she replied with an irritated face.
“Nice to meet you,” Marshall said trying to be nice.
“Whatever,” she said. Marshall looked over at me confused, I shrugged.
“Carrie!” my Mom yelled. “What happened to your face!?” she freaked out staring at Marshall did it. I remained silent.
“Kim,” Marshall answered for me.
“Who the fuck is Kim?” she yelled.
“My ex,” Marshall said looking down at the floor.
“So she did this to my daughter?” she questioned. Marshall nodded and leaned against a pull waiting for the walk signal. She doesn’t say anything.
“Anyway!” I said loudly trying to change the subject.
“Whatever,” my Mom said glaring at Marshall.
“Don’t look at him like that, he didn’t do anything,” I said irritated with my Mom’s glaring.
“Well maybe if he acted like a normal person…” she stared.
“Mom! Stop!” I yelled. I grabbed Marshall’s hand, we laced fingers. “You ok?” I whispered looking up at him. He nodded.
“Just tired,” he said.
“You look like it,” I said as we got onto a bus. I laid my head on his shoulder. He grabbed my hand again. My Mom kept glaring. “What is you’re problem!?” I shouted.
“There’s just something about him I don’t like ok,” she said. “And don’t think I’m gonna go anywhere with that bum,” she said pointing to Marshall, he looks up at her and sighs.
(((MARSHALL’S HOUSE)))
“Hey, I’m sorry bout my Mom, I don’t know what her problem is,” I said.
“Its fine, I’m used to people haitin on me,” he said quietly. “Want a drink or something?” he asked going thought the kitchen doors, I followed. He opens the fridge.
“What you got?” I asked hugging him from behind.
“Ah, now when you do that it makes it hard for me to get you your drink,” he said turning around and smiling, I smiled and kissed him, he kissed back. I pulled away and sat on a stool. “No fair,” he whined, I smiled. He shook he’s head and went back to the fridge. “So, on with the drinks…we got Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Kool-Aid, and lemonade,” he lists off.
“I’ll have a Mountain Dew,” I said, he grabbed two cans out the fridge and handed me one; I opened it and took a sip. “Are you ok?” I asked, he didn’t answer he just sighed and took a drink. He sat down on the stool next to me and laid his head down. “Hey, it’ll be ok, she’ll grow to like you,” I said trying to make him feel better.
“Sure,” he mumbled. He stood up and motioned me to follow him. We went upstairs, we checked on the kids in Hailie’s room they were asleep. Marshall put a blanket on them. “Nate,” Marshall said knocking on his door.
“Come in,” Nate said. Marshall opened the door we walked in and stood in the doorway.
“You two look tired,” Nate smiled. Marshall gave him a funny look. “Why don’t you go take a nap?” Nate asked putting air quotes around the word nap.
“Funny,” Marshall mumbled.
“Fine be that way,” Nate laughed.
We left Nate’s room and went into Marshall’s. Marshall took of his shirt and boxers. He laid on the bed on his stomach and sighed. I stared at him for a while as I stood by the other side of the bed. He looked over at me.
“You gonna come lay down?” he asked.
“I can’t sleep in jeans,” I said.
“Take them off,” he said trying not to smile. I rolled my eyes and took them off. I got into the bed, as soon as I laid down Marshall latched onto me like a leech. Not long after that we fell asleep. I woke up about five minutes later.
“Marshall,” I whispered. He opened his eyes.
“What?” he asked.
“Blanket?” I asked. He smiled, and fixed it so we had a blanket; we cuddled up back together and fell asleep.
