Welcome to Andarra
End of the Line
The clanking sounds as the train passed over the rail tracks distracted me from my sulking thoughts and I opened my eyes. I saw Jennifer sitting in a yoga position with legs crossed, on her seat. Still typing on her phone and chuckling. As I gazed through the train cabin's window, I widened my eyes just a bit as I saw mountains for the first time in my life. They were distant, but getting closer. It was still day mind you, still traveling through open fields and secluded forests. If we had stopped at other stations, I couldn't remember. Too deep in thought.
Jennifer's shoes lay scrambled on the floor, and while earlier I would've been cautiously scanning her body to see tidbits of her feet dressed in white socks, now I didn't really care all that much. She lied to me... And she dared ask what's wrong after I didn't engage with her in conversations afterwards. Maybe I'm not feeling right Jennifer. Maybe I'm a bit hurt 'cause I liked you. You seemed like a genuine nice girl, that I wanted to molest, sure. But I never would've done it...
"Where is the hate, boy?" Michael tapped me with his beak, "I do not feel it in your heart."
No hate, Michael. Just sorrow.
"Sorrow for what, my deluded apprentice?"
I guess... Sorrow for caring about Jennifer...
"Do you care about her or just her opinions, boy?" Michael half-unfurled his wings and scratched one with his beak.
I mean... Yeah, her opinion...
"To what end?" I took a look at Michael. What do you mean to what end? "You wish to get into her pants, ravage her in public, molest her while she slept?"
I stood still for a moment... No Michael. I honestly don't. And she's engaged.
"Then why do you care?"
Pardon?
"About her opinion?" The bird stared at me blankly.
But I don't.... Or do I? Jesus, what the fuck's wrong with me. Met one girl that didn't turn out right and my whole Universe comes crashing down! I need to get myself together.
"Or as your kind like to call it boy, growing some balls."
Very crass of you.
"Even now you're thinking of ass." Michael said.
What?
"Crass. It has ass in the word."
I closed my eyes and sighed. Thought demons were supposed to be all mighty and powerful, not react like teenagers.
"Hmm? Something wrong?" Jennifer asked, the train switched tracks just then.
"No, no. I just can't wait to finally sleep in a bed, you know?" I gave her a half-smile.
She smiled back, "It's overrated." She said and chuckled, I did the same. This. This felt good, Jennifer. Why can't you be more like this?
"It looks to me like Humans are a bit more complex." Michael replied.
Unlike demons, I think to myself.
"Or unlike packages of neatly tied together biscuits." He gave me a frowned stare. Wait, owls frown? Since when.
"Since I'm not an owl." He said.
I raised my eyebrows. Yeah. Fair point, actually. Can you stop being an asshole, too?
"Of course not."
Eh, I tried.
My inner conversation with the demon came to a halt as the locomotive sounded its horn just then.
I lean into the window to look in front, and see... Nothing? Just an empty field.
"Huh? Are we there?" Jennifer broke her lotus position, leaned forward onto the window rail, and pushed her face into the glass, looking to her left.
"Doesn't look like it." I tell her.
"Then why... " The train wheels screeched before she could finish her sentence. And it was quite loud.
"Oh, hold steady!" She says to herself. I grab her right arm and push to give her some equilibrium against the inertia. "Thank you!" She said, looking back at me.
"You're most welcome." I said. Then remembering how she lied abo --
"I will interrupt your train of self-depreciating thoughts to remind you to stay sharp. Don't show fear. These bitches will kill you if they suspect anything." Michael said.
What? What do you mean? We're here already?
"Yes."
The train slows to a stop, and I spot a carriage with horses waiting for us just outside.
"Huh... Looks like we're here... " I say, in the middle of nowhere.
Me, Michael and Jennifer vacate the train cabin. Jennifer dragged her massive luggage on wheels and I carried this dangeous demon from another world.
"Dimension." He corrects me.
The dimension you got kicked out of?
"Details, details."
I shook my head as I walk with Jennifer across the train corridor. She raises her hand and yells, "Hey! You're Emma Watson right?"
"Yeah! Hey! Didn't expect you here too!" They hug as if they were besties, but never met before? Weren't they both actresses? I shrug.
Then I see another smaller figure behind her, brunette, dressed all black.
"Oh my Goooooood!" Jennifer yells, "Jenna?"
I raise my head a bit, and see Jenna ... Ortega? What the hell's going on Michael? Why are they all actresses?
"I see you have more questions. But I warn you, this rabbit hole goes deep, boy. And you have to be ready to delve deep."
...
"What?" Michael asked.
I actually expected a sexual inuendo...
"And you're dissappointed, boy?"
Honestly, yeah.
"Good." Michael said, "Good. Now you know how I feel."
I greet the two other actresses as they walk ahead in front of us, through the tight corridor. Couldn't help but look at their asses. Emma's denim skirt didn't help me see her ass that well, but Jenna's jeans did. Then it hit me.
Michael?
"Yes?"
Are all the women at this academy celebrities from my world?
"Yes. "
