Chapter 52
+++++++
"Ok, um, ok," Tony said, nervously running his hands through his short hair. "Ok, well, um, ok..."
"Yea, you've said that already," Jason pointed out.
"Jay, patience," Kelly pleaded.
"Fine."
"So, um, this is, um, this is big," Tony nodded.
"Tony, breathe," Carrie soothed. "It's a lot to deal with, we know."
"I'm not even sure where to begin," he admitted.
"If it helps, my manager is going to be here soon, if you want to wait and discuss this with him," Kelly said.
"Who's your manager?"
"Narvel Blackstock."
"Thank God," Tony sighed. "Yea, I'll wait till he gets here. I just hope we can do something before this gets too far."
++++++++++
"Who's that?" Shanna asked at the sound of the doorbell ringing once more. Stephanie stood up to answer it.
"Kelly's manager?" Carole suggested.
"No, not yet, huh?" Kelly turned to Carrie who shook her head.
"It's for you," Stephanie said, looking at Kelly as she re-entered the living room.
Kelly glanced up to find a familiar face joining them.
"Ashley?" she smiled. "What are you doing here?"
"Carrie called," Ashley replied.
Kelly looked at the country singer who shrugged with a smile.
"I figured you'd want her here as well," Carrie explained.
Kelly pulled her into a tight hug, whispering an "I love you" in her ear. Carrie continued to hold her close even after she had turned back around to face her best friend.
"So how are you two holding up?" Ashley asked, eyeing Kelly worriedly.
"Well, so far so good, I guess," she replied. "I mean, we haven't heard anything yet."
"How can you if there aren't any televisions on in the house?" Ashley pointed out.
"We figured as soon as word got out our phones would be ringing off the hook anyway, so there wasn't really any need."
"Why?" Carrie asked. "Have you heard anything?"
"No, not yet," Ashley shook her head.
"The way I see it," Kelly said. "The story probably won't break until tomorrow."
"Why do you say that?" Tony asked.
"Think about it. You have one of the hugest stories of the year--"
"Decade, easily," Ashley broke in.
"Century when it comes to guys," Jason added.
Carrie laughed softly as Kelly continued, "Ok, so biggest story in a long time, whatever. Well, wouldn't you want to shop around first? You know, highest bidder and whatnot?"
"Kelly, that's your family," Alyssa scolded.
"Yea, which means I know them real well," she frowned.
Carrie ran her hands up and down Kelly's arms comfortingly.
"She's right," Tony nodded. "She's completely right. And it's sad, yes, but it's also a good thing."
"I'm sorry, but how is our family being completely screwed up a good thing?" Alyssa asked.
"Time," Carrie said simply, resting her chin on Kelly's shoulder. Kelly tilted her head to the side, touching it to Carrie's who smiled.
"You two seriously need to learn to keep your hands off of each other for like five minutes," Stephanie said.
"Steph..." Shanna laughed.
"You get used to it," Jason assured her.
"Honestly. It's a wonder they've managed to keep it a secret this long," Stephanie replied.
"People only see what they want to see," Carrie shrugged.
"Meaning?" Alyssa asked.
"Before you knew," Carrie said, feeling Kelly snuggling into her neck once again. She glanced at the clock on the mantle which read a quarter to ten. The girl was like a two year old when it came to sleep. "What did you think of when you heard the name, Carrie Underwood."
"Well, I..."
"Honestly," Carrie insisted.
"Well, you just seemed like this very clean-cut, straight-laced girl. You know: always plays by the rules, never steps out of line, always does what she's told to do."
"In other words," Ashley interrupted. "You were the music industry's perfect little drone."
"Ashley," Alyssa admonished.
"No, that's fine," Carrie smiled. "That's what I wanted to hear. So would it ever in a million years, even if you were to see Kelly and I together all the time, think of us as being anything more than friends?"
"No," she shook head.
"Exactly," Carrie grinned as she felt Kelly's warm breath on her neck starting to even out. "People only see what they want to see."
"You know, if you want, I can bring her to your room," Jason offered, watching his sister fall asleep. "Your legs have got to be dead."
"No," Kelly protested sleepily, but firmly as she wrapped her arms tighter around the country singer.
Carrie laughed, "She's perfectly fine where she is."
"How about I fix up something real quick for everyone to eat while waiting," Carole suggested. "Y'all have got to be hungry."
"I'll help," Ashley offered, standing.
"And who are you, dear?" Carole asked sweetly.
"Oh, sorry," Carrie smiled. "This is Ashley. She's Kelly's best friend. She also does her hair and make-up for her. Ashley this is my mom and dad, my two sisters: Shanna and Stephanie, and my manager: Tony."
"Nice to meet you," Ashley replied.
"I think maybe we should finish our conversation now," Alyssa said, looking at Carrie.
"Me too," Shanna agreed, eyeing Kelly.
"Don't wake her," Jason and Alyssa said at the same time.
"I'm not sleeping yet," Kelly grumbled, wanting nothing more than to nuzzle so far into Carrie that she'd disappear from all of this.
"Maybe I should stay here," Ashley said, sitting back down.
"Now, now everyone..." Carole began.
"Actually," Stephen said, standing next to his wife. "I think we should leave the kids alone for a bit to talk amongst themselves. I'm sure they all have a lot to get off their chests. Tony, why don't you come help us in the kitchen?"
"Sure," Tony nodded, following Carrie's parents out of the room.
++++++++++
"My warning still stands," Shanna glared.
"What warning?" Ashley frowned at Alyssa.
"All I told her was to be careful," Shanna replied.
"She's Kelly's sister," Ashley pointed out. "She has every right to question the girl. I did."
"What did you tell her?" Stephanie asked defensively.
"Maybe you should answer your own question," Jason replied.
"Anybody else feel like we're going in circles?" Carrie asked.
Kelly raised her hand.
"Stay out of this," Shanna frowned.
"Don't talk to her like that," Jason and Ashley warned.
"I was talking to my sister," she replied.
"Baby, I've been here before," Kelly sang softly. Carrie was the only one that could hear her above the arguing, or maybe she was the only one bothering to listen. She was caught between goose bumps from the warm voice against her skin and giggles from the fact that she and Kelly were the only ones that could see how ridiculous all of this was becoming.
"I've seen this room, and I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew ya.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch,
But love is not a victory march.
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah," Kelly finished.
Carrie kissed the top of her head, smiling.
"Maybe you should let the girl speak," Alyssa said. "I mean, she has a lot of explaining to do."
Kelly groaned into Carrie's shoulder.
"If anyone should be explaining, it's your dyke of a sister," Shanna scathed.
The silence that fell on the room was nearly deafening as Jason, Alyssa, and Ashley all stood protectively. Carrie felt Kelly go stiff in her arms, and she had to force the bad taste that was rising in the back of her throat to go back down.
"What did you just say?" Jason asked softly.
"You heard me," Shanna replied, as she and Stephanie stood as well.
"Y'all are the ones that said it," Stephanie reminded. "Carrie's not the type of person that would do something like this."
"So you're saying that Kelly is?" Ashley asked.
"People wouldn't be surprised to see this coming from her, yea."
"Meaning?" Alyssa prompted.
"Meaning that anyone can tell from the way that she presents herself that she doesn't come from the best of environments--" Shanna began.
Carrie closed her eyes as her jaw twitched.
"--if it weren't for your messed up family, we wouldn't even be in this situation."
"Jason," Carrie said, her voice low but steady. She could tell from the way that Kelly was shaking in her arms that she was struggling not to cry.
Jason turned to her, his clenched fists immediately relaxing at the sight of his little sister.
"Can you take her to my room?"
"Care..." Kelly's voice cracked as she pushed away enough to be able to look at her. Carrie could see the tears forming in her eyes.
"I'll be there in a little bit," Carrie assured her with a gentle smile. "I just want to talk with my sisters for a sec."
"I'll stay," she replied.
"I'd rather you didn't," Carrie admitted.
"Well, I can walk for myself."
"Let him take you," she said, lowering her voice. "He needs to cool off anyway."
Kelly nodded as Carrie kissed her forehead before allowing Jason to lift her in his arms.
"It's on your left," Carrie told him before turning to the remaining people in the room. "Now every one else needs to sit...down."
"This isn't your house, so don't start handing out commands," Shanna glared.
"I paid for the damn thing, so it's as good as mine," Carrie replied sharply, watching as the four of them all sat down obediently. "Now where the hell do you two get off saying things like that?" she asked, eyeing her two sisters.
"Carrie, she was being a total bitch to you," Shanna said, jumping back up and looking at Alyssa accusingly.
Carrie stood as well, staring her sister down, "That's not what I meant, and you know it."
"I stand by every word I said," Shanna frowned.
"And you?" Carrie asked, feeling her blood boil as she looked at her other sister who turned away nervously. "Of course you do," Carrie smirked. "You never do anything to go against Shanna."
"You'd better watch it," Shanna warned.
"No, you had better watch it!" Carrie snapped.
"Carrie?" Ashley asked concernedly.
Carrie put a hand up, keeping her there as she took a calming breath, stepping towards her sister, "Before you start making judgments there are a few things you need to know. I made the first move. I kissed her first. I asked her out first. I said 'I love you' first. I was the one pressuring her. She was the one that made us wait."
"Press--" Alyssa began, but stopped when Ashley shook her head.
"So, you see, I guess that makes me the dyke, right?"
"Carrie..." Shanna shook her head.
Carrie took another step towards her, her fists balled tightly, "If I ever hear you talking about her like that again, or that either of you upset her in any way, so help me God, you will live to regret it."
Shanna nodded silently.
"That goes for you too," Carrie said, turning to Alyssa.
"I'd never--"
"Do you have any idea what it does to her to hear all of y'all arguing like that?" Carrie asked. "With all the shit that we've been going through, you know what she told me after you called?"
Alyssa shook her head.
"That she was happy because she'd soon be surrounded by all of the people that she loved, and that was the only thing that mattered...way to screw that one up."
Kelly's sister's eyes fell to the floor.
Carrie sighed, "Look, I'll talk to you later, ok? Any questions you have about Kelly and I, or just about me, is fine. I have nothing to hide from you, but right now I have to go be with her and try to fix all the damage that was just done."
"Jason's with her."
"He's not the one she wants right now," Ashley replied, meeting Carrie's eyes and earning an appreciative smile.
"Thanks for coming," Carrie said.
Ashley nodded, "Thanks for calling."
++++++++++
Jason locked eyes with Carrie as she entered the room. He gave her a small smile before exiting and closing the door behind him. Carrie locked the door before slipping off her shoes and climbing into bed behind Kelly. Kelly turned onto her other side to face her.
"Hey beautiful," Carrie smiled, moving the Texan's hair out of her eyes. "How's my girl?"
"Sorry," she frowned.
"Sorry?" Carrie asked patiently. "About what?"
"My family being so messed up. Your sisters were right--if it weren't for my family we'd never be in this situation of having everyone find out. And I know that Alyssa didn't help matters either."
"Kell, I love your family."
"How can you say that after everything they've done?" she asked, tearing up.
"Simple," Carrie gently wiped the tears away, "Because they are the reason that you're the strong and beautiful person that you are today."
"Care..." Kelly fussed as more tears fell.
"Baby," Carrie laughed softly as she pulled the Texan closer. She brushed their nosed together in and Eskimo kiss.
"Sometimes I wonder why you put up with me," Kelly admitted, bring a hand up to cradle Carrie's face.
"Cause I'd be lost without you," Carrie whispered, placing her own hand on top of Kelly's and bringing it to her lips as she kissed her palm. She linked their fingers together, bringing their hands down to their sides.
"Kell," she said delicately as they locked eyes. "You need to know that none of the things that my sisters said are true, ok? They have no clue what they're talking about."
Kelly bit her lip.
"Kelly..."
"Okay," she nodded.
Carrie leaned forward kissing her softly, "I love you."
"I love you too," Kelly breathed, pulling her closer and kissing her more firmly. Carrie felt herself melting into the embrace as she moaned in agreement.
Kelly pulled away just enough to smile at the blonde as she sang softly, her eyes traveling from Carrie's warm eyes to her inviting lips and back again. Her voice was even warmer than before as it came out in a whisper.
"Remember when I moved in you,
The Holy dove was moving too,
And every breath we drew was hallelujah."
Carrie grinned as she kissed her fully, turning her onto her back and sliding on top of her. It always took her by surprised the way all of her senses seemed to heighten when she was being kissed by the shorter singer.
She could hear the sound of her own heart pounding in her ears. The image of the look of want and love in Kelly's eyes right before they kissed was burned into her vision. The sweet smell of vanilla encompassed her in a way that made her ache for the girl even more. The feeling of Kelly moving beneath her and the softness of her skin against her fingertips were easily the most beautiful things she had ever felt. The taste of her--her lips, her tongue, her body--she'd swear she'd never go hungry if she could just spend everyday kissing the girl.
Carrie felt Kelly's hands sliding up the back of her shirt as the Texan took Carrie's bottom lip between her teeth, tugging hungrily, eliciting another moan from the country singer.
"Kell..."
"I know," she breathed, pulling away. "Got a little carried away. Sorry."
Carrie smiled down at her, "That is never something you have to apologize for."
Kelly's laugh came out hoarsely.
"So, you're good?" Carrie asked, touching her cheek affectionately.
"Could use a cold shower," she admitted. "But other than that, yea, I'm good. You?"
"Flying high," Carrie grinned. "How bout we try getting some sleep?"
"Reba and Narvel will be here soon," Kelly argued, but her tired eyed gave her away.
"I'm positive they'll let us know as soon as they get here," Carrie assured her as Kelly turned away, allowing Carrie to curl up right behind her, molding their bodies together as she wrapped an arm around her, holding her close.
++++++++++
Carrie woke up to the sound of someone knocking on her door.
"Carrie dear," Carole's voice came through. "Mrs. Reba McEntire and her husband are here."
Carrie laughed softly. Could this get any weirder?
"Thanks mom," Carrie called back.
Kelly groaned in protest.
"Good morning to you too," Carrie smiled, placing her cheek on Kelly's as she pulled her closer.
Kelly sighed in satisfaction of the embrace, "What time izzit?"
"One," Carrie replied, nuzzling into her cheek before moving to kiss her neck.
"Narvel's here?"
"Yes ma'am."
"I wish we could go back to sleep," she admitted.
"Me too," Carrie replied, kissing to soft spot behind her ear, then kissing just above her jaw line.
Kelly smiled, loving the attention that Carrie always showered her with.
"I love it when you do this," she said, voicing her thoughts as she turned onto her back.
"Mmm, not nearly as much as I love doing it," Carrie replied, leaving a line of soft kisses along the Texan's collarbone before bringing her small hand up to her lips, kissing each fingertip as Kelly lay there with a serene smile on her face. Carrie kissed the tip of her nose, then her forehead, then both of her eyelids before finishing with the sweetest of kisses on her lips. She lowered herself down onto Kelly as the shorter singer hugged her close, kissing her temple in deep appreciation.
"You ready?" Carrie whispered in Kelly's ear, her voice coming out velvety as Kelly lovingly ran her nails up and down Carrie's back.
+++++++++
Kelly watched as Reba and Narvel sat on the couch in the living room while Carole bustled about, offering tea or coffee or water or coke or anything else under the sun that was drinkable. This was definitely one of those pinch me/larger-than-life moments.
"Kelly," Carole smiled as she fully walked into the room.
"Hi," Kelly greeted as Reba and Narvel each stood to hug her.
"Where's Carrie?" Carole asked.
"She'll be out soon," Kelly smiled.
"You girl's hungry?"
"Starved," she grinned.
"Good, I'll bring you out some muffins."
Kelly nodded, curling up in the big recliner.
"Carrie?" Reba asked.
"Underwood," Kelly raised an eyebrow. "Nobody told you that this was her, well her parents', house?"
"No," Narvel shook his head with a smile. "They just said come on in Mr. and Mrs. Reba McEntire. Kelly will be right with you."
"Sorry bout that," Kelly laughed. "I think her parents are a little overwhelmed. There have been people coming and going all day."
"So, Kelly," Narvel began, clasping his hands on his lap which was always a sign that he was switching to business mode. "What's going on?"
"Maybe I should go help Mrs. Underwood," Reba offered.
"No need," Carole smiled, walking in and placing a large plate of blueberry muffins onto the coffee table.
"Where'd everybody go?" Kelly asked.
"Stephen sent them back to their homes or hotels. He thought that everybody could benefit from a bit of sleep," Carole explained.
"What about Tony?"
"He's in the barn. Stephen wanted to show him some new toy he's got. You know how boys are," she laughed. "You want me to go get him?"
"Yes ma'am. He wanted to talk with Narvel."
"Sure," Carole nodded before walking out.
"Kelly?" Narvel asked, clearly confused.
"We should wait for Carrie," Kelly replied, wondering what was taking her so long.
"Should I...?" Reba motioned out of the room.
"No," Kelly shook her head. "You should stay."
"Hey," Carrie smiled, walking into the room.
"Carrie," Reba smiled as she and Narvel stood to hug her as well.
"How was the flight?"
"It was fine," Narvel nodded as Carrie took the closest seat next to Kelly.
"Where's Tony?" Carrie asked, turning to the Texan on the side of her.
"Your mom went get him."
"Who's Tony?" Narvel asked.
"Carrie's manager."
"What's going on?"
Kelly looked at Carrie who nodded, "You can go on and start. Tony's already heard this part."
Kelly bit her lip as she turned back to her manager and her mentor.
"Tony's already heard what part?" Reba asked curiously.
"Well, one thing I've learned is that there is no easy way to say this," Kelly began. "And I wish I could tell you under better circumstances and not bombard you like this, but the truth is, we really don't have the time for that, so, I'm just gonna get this over with, kinda like ripping off a band-aid, you know?"
"Kell..." Carrie smiled.
"Yea?"
"You're rambling."
"Oh yea," Kelly nodded. She took a deep breath, shutting her eyes tightly, "CarrieandIhavebeendatingsincetheduet."
Kelly opened her eyes at the feeling of a familiar hand slipping into her own as Carrie scooted her chair closer. She looked up at Reba and Narvel nervously. They were both wearing a similar, blank expression as they tried to process what was just said.
"Breathe," Carrie reminded her softly.
Kelly let out the air she had been holding.
"Wow," Reba nodded. "Okay."
"Why is that the only thing people can think of to say?" Carrie asked, trying to get Kelly to relax.
"I thought, I mean," Narvel cleared his throat. "I just always considered you, well the both of you, to you know...like guys."
Kelly smiled, "You and us both."
Reba laughed, "Well you know what? Good for you."
"Really?"
"Yes," she nodded. "I've noticed you've been more upbeat these past few months, and if she's the reason, then good for you."
Carrie felt her own eyes watering at the sight of the happy tears that were streaming down Kelly's face.
"Sweetie," Reba laughed, walking to Kelly and pulling her up into a hug. "It's okay."
"I thought you were gonna be pissed," she admitted through the tears. "And I couldn't handle any more people being pissed."
"We're not pissed," Reba assured her.
Carrie giggled. There was just something about hearing Reba McEntire saying the word 'pissed' that was just funny.
"And you," the red head said, turning to Carrie who immediately sobered up. "This is a lot of talent you've got right here," she said, squeezing Kelly's shoulders. "And she's got a heart bigger than that giant state she's from."
"Reba..." Kelly blushed, but was ignored.
"And if you do anything to hurt her in any way, shape, or form--"
"I know," Carrie nodded, having heard this speech several times already. "I'll live to regret it."
"No, you won't," Reba shook her head. "Cause I'll kill ya."
Carrie's eyes got wide.
"Reba," Kelly laughed, pushing her away playfully as she sat back down next to her girlfriend.
"Kelly," Narvel said patiently. "I don't mean to put a damper on this celebration, but what did you mean when you said we didn't have time to wait for better circumstances."
"Yea," her smiled faded. "That."
"You see," Carrie explained. "Kelly's mom kind of let it slip last night at their family gathering about Kelly and I being a couple."
"She didn't let it slip," Kelly sighed. "She pretty much exclaimed it."
"Proud?" Reba asked.
"Quite the opposite."
"That doesn't sound like the Jeanne I know."
"It's not the one I know either," Kelly mumbled as Carrie gave her hand a soft squeeze.
"Tony," she smiled at the sight of her manager walking into the living room. "Tony, I'd like for you to meet Narvel Blackstock, Kelly's manager, and his wife, Reba McEntire."
"It's nice to meet you," Tony greeted, shaking their hands.
"So about how many people are we talking about here, Kelly?" Narvel asked as Tony sat down.
"You'd have to ask Jason to be positive, but there's usually around thirty or so. You know: grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, everybody."
"And nobody's heard anything yet?"
"Kelly suggested that they may have shopped around a bit for the best price for the story," Tony said.
"Which would give us until tomorrow afternoon at the latest."
"Do you think, I mean, is there anything we can do to make the backlash not as bad?" Kelly asked nervously.
"Deny it?" Tony suggested. "I mean, we can just say that it's someone looking to make a few bucks."
"I'm not denying it," Carrie said firmly, making Kelly smile.
"I agree," Narvel nodded. "Because when evidence surfaces--and it will surface because once this breaks, people will be watching you two like hawks--if you've denied it, it will end up being way worse for the two of than if you've admitted to it."
"True," Tony frowned.
"What about if we came out with the story first?" Carrie offered.
Tony and Narvel looked at her curiously.
"Yea," Kelly agreed. "That way it wouldn't look as if we had anything to hide or be ashamed of. Plus, it would make the story, for whoever's trying to leak it, worth a heck of a lot less."
"I think that's probably the best way to go about this," Reba replied.
"Okay, but how?" Narvel asked. "A press conference would look to desperate and rushed."
"Not enough time for a magazine interview," Kelly thought out loud.
"Radio," Tony said simply.
All eyes turned to him.
"Think about it," he smiled. "Radio interviews are early in the morning. They're live. It's a great way for a story to spread."
"You know," Carrie said. "There's a country station out here that I used to go surprise with impromptu interviews when I first started out."
"You did impromptu interviews?" Kelly asked, impressed.
"That was a while back, but yes," Carrie laughed. "Those interviews really helped them spread to a larger market. However, that's also when I stopped doing them. When there's only like thirty people listening, it's okay for me to make a fool out of myself, but when it's like three thousand...how about not."
Kelly laughed.
"Well, it looks like the world is in for a major wake up call tomorrow morning," Narvel nodded.
++++++++++
"You asleep?" Kelly asked as she lay on her back, staring up at the ceiling.
"Nope," Carrie replied, curled up against Kelly's side, her arm draped over the Texan's stomach.
"Me either."
"I realized that," Carrie teased. "Thinking about the interview?"
"Yea," she nodded.
"Are you scared?" Carrie asked softly.
"A little, yea," she admitted. "You?"
"A little, yea."
Kelly smiled, wrapping her arms around the country singer and pulling her closer, "You wanna go for a walk?"
"Kelly, it's nearly four in the morning," Carrie laughed. "We only have a couple hours left to sleep."
"I know, but neither of us are gonna fall asleep now. If we do, there's no way we'd be up in time for the interview."
"Alright," Carrie sighed, allowing Kelly to pull her out of bed. They each pulled on a hoodie and a pair of flip flops before sneaking out the front door. Kelly slipped her hand into Carrie's as she felt the cool breeze against her face.
"This is nice," Carrie admitted as they walked hand in hand under the stars.
"A bit cliché, but yea," Kelly smiled.
"It was your idea," Carrie laughed, bumping their shoulders.
"It's your fault," Kelly pointed out.
"And how is that?"
"Because you make me want to do cliché things," she exclaimed, stopping to face her. "You make me want to walk under the stars and kiss in the rain and shout your name from mountaintops. I mean, seriously girl, what is this thing you're doing to me?"
Carrie smiled at her, "I think some people call it love."
"That or indigestion," Kelly shook her head, starting to walk again, pulling Carrie along beside her.
"Way to ruin the moment," Carrie laughed.
"What? That's what you call a moment?" Kelly asked as they stopped in front of the barn.
"Yes, why?"
"That's not a moment," Kelly shook her head.
"Oh yea? Then what is?"
Kelly lifted a finger, signaling for her to wait there as she went into the barn to find the stereo that she had noticed while talking to Carrie's father. She discovered a plug near the door and brought the stereo out as far as the wire would allow it to go. She switched it on, searching for a slow song. Finally satisfied, she turned it louder before standing and walking back to Carrie.
"What are you doing?" Carrie smiled as the sound of the music surrounded them.
"Nothing," Kelly grinned, kicking off her flip flops. She stepped closer to the country singer, holding out her hand, "May I have this dance?"
Carrie knew she was blushing crimson as she kicked off her own shoes, accepting Kelly's hand. She put her free hand on Kelly's waist, just as she did to her, and they started to gently move back and forth to the music. They looked into each other's eyes, both finding exactly what they were in need of before Kelly pulled her closer, pressing their cheeks together. Carrie didn't recognize the song, but as Kelly sang it to her in her ear, she swore it was the most angelic thing she had ever heard.
The song came to an end, but they continued dancing as another one started up.
"Now this," Kelly smiled, relishing in the way they moved in harmony while they danced under the stars. "This is a moment."
Carrie pulled back to look at her with a glowing smile. "Yea," she nodded before leaning closer and touching their lips together.

++++++++++

++++++++++
