"One thing I can tell you
Is you got to be free,
Come together right now
Over me."

"A limo?" Carrie raised an eyebrow, turning to Kelly as they walked out of the Texan airport. "I thought you didn't like limos?"
"It's her first time in Texas," she shrugged, squeezing Alex's hand. "She deserves the star treatment."
Alex pushed down Kelly's sunglasses that she had given her, completely covering her face.
"Definitely a star," Kelly laughed.
"Come on shorty," Jason laughed, bending down in front of her. "Piggy back?"
"Yea!" Alex cheered, climbing onto his back with Kelly's help as Jason and Ashley raced to the limo.
"It really isn't good for her to get so worked up like this," Dr. Lansing commented, from the side of her.
"She's not worked up. She's having fun. Don't you think she deserves a little fun after all she's been through?" Kelly asked.
"She's six. Does she really need a limo?"
"What six year old doesn't like limos?"
"And what happens when this week is over?" Dr. Lansing asked. "When all this is done, and she has to go back to the hospital. No star treatment there. You'll probably get bored like most do, and find something else to run after and play charity with."
Kelly stopped walking, and Carrie took a nervous breath, motioning for Ashley to come back.
"How long have you been working on Alex's case?" Kelly asked, forcing a calm tone in her voice.
"I've just been assigned to it, but if it's my ability you're questioning--"
"I've been with her for nearly a year. I've been by her side day and night this past week and every week like it, so don't you dare imply that I don't care deeply about that little girl, because she means the world to me."
Dr. Lansing put a hand up, "I wasn't implying anything. I was merely speaking from experience. And I know, people like you see things like limos and such as entitlement rather than a privilege as I'm sure you're parents have spoiled you with them since you were her age, but in the real world--"
"When I was her age? When I was six?" Kelly questioned, her voice rising several pitches. "Do you really want to know what was going on in my life when I was six?"
Carrie placed her hand on Kelly's back, leaning to her ear, "Let's just get in the limo."
Kelly didn't budge.
"Kell, come on, she has no clue what she's talking about," she whispered, rubbing her back, calming her. "It's obvious you love Alex, and for anyone to think that you feel entitled...she's crazy. Let's just go before you make a scene or something. Don't forget Alex is probably watching you."
Kelly nodded, allowing Carrie to escort her inside the limo.
Ashley frowned as Dr. Lansing turned to follow, running straight into her, "Maybe it's best if you ride in the front."
"But Alexan--"
"She's fine," Ashley replied shortly.

"Are we there yet?" Alex asked, bouncing on the seat, looking out the window.
"Almost," Kelly laughed. "But you've got to sit down, ok? Just because there aren't any seatbelts doesn't mean the cookie monster can't still come."
"But we ate all the cookies," Alex pointed out, climbing onto her lap. "What's he gonna want us for?"
"Well, I don't know...but I bet you'd taste pretty sweet," Kelly grinned, poking her side and making her giggle.
"The cookie monster doesn't eat kids," Alex rolled her eyes. "Tell her Carrie."
"I don't know," Carrie smiled. "You do look pretty sweet."
Alex bit her lip, "Well, I'm not scared of the cookie monster."
"No?" Carrie asked. "Why not?"
"Because Kelly's gonna protect me...right?" she asked, her big green eyes looking at the short Texan nervously.
"Well, duh," Kelly smiled, touching their noses together in an Eskimo kiss. "That's my job, isn't it?"
"And you don't want me to fire you," Alex shook her head.
"Well, that surely can't happen," Kelly agreed, wrapping her arms tightly around the small girl. "Don't worry, I'll protect you."
Alex smiled, snuggling into Kelly as the long flight started to catch up with her.
