Chapter Fifty Five

"Last call for flight 1886 to the connecting flight in Atlanta. Please locate your baggage and your boarding pass and make your way towards the gate," we heard the announcer speak over the intercom.

"I guess I really should go now," Simon said as he held me to him, his arms wrapping even tighter around me.

"Yeah," I sighed, tilting my face upwards, pressing my lips to his. "I guess you should."

"So I'll see you in London in a few weeks," he murmured against my mouth, as he reached down blindly for his carryon, slinging it over his right shoulder.

"Yep," I replied, breaking our embrace, remorsefully. "My flight leaves on the 16th of June."

"Good," he smiled down at me, fingering the ribbon that tied between my breasts.

I laughed playfully, pushing his hand back to his side. "Save it for London," I said, my voice dropping an octave.

"Final call for flight 1886, final call for flight 1886," the stewardess announced impatiently.

"Okay, okay, I'm coming," Simon grumbled. "See you in a few weeks."

He pressed a lingering kiss to my lips before he retreated from me, making his way to the line of late-boarders.

"Oh, Paula?" he shouted, cupping a hand around his mouth.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"I admit it."

"You admit what?"

"You're not going to actually make me say it, are you?" he asked, feigning horror.

He's admitting he's in love with you, one side of my brain answered the other.

My stomach fluttered slightly as I beamed at him.

"No. I won't make you say it."

I puckered my lips in a discreet kiss and blew it at him, before I turned away again, doing my best to avoid making a huge scene in the middle of LAX.

But there was one more thing I needed to say before I could let him get on that plane.

"Hey Simon!" I shouted after him.

He turned around to face me and I stood over my tip toes to see over the heads of people passing between us.

"I admit it too!"

A satisfied smirk brightened his handsome, ruffled features.

"I know."

With that he gave me a small wave, turning on his heel to catch his boarding flight.

I bit my lip, fighting the tears that threatened to cascade down my cheeks.

At that moment I became aware that I never really knew the moment I'd fallen in love with him.

Maybe on some level, I'd always loved him.

Even when I had hated him.

Love to hate him and hate to love him, I thought with a smile as I picked up my bag from the floor, throwing it across my shoulder as I blindly made my way past the crowd towards my double-parked car, excited to see what was in store for us, the next time around.
