Alex

Rosie watched all of this from a distance, terror in her mind as she cowered in the corner, gnashing her teeth.
There was something seriously wrong with Mike but there was nothing she could do - she had never seen anything like it in her entire life.
So she remained in the corner, nerves eating out her insides, telepathy affected too, giving spasms and jerking motions that held no relief.
At last Mike slipped, falling to the monster she had seen only once before and Rosie could only watch on as the nurses and doctors left the room with Mike lying on that damned hospital bed, slumbering in a horrendous world that Rosie dared not even imagine.
Rosie stayed there, but eventually fell into a kind of sleep of her own.
She was awoken scant hours later when the lights were turned off and relative silence had prevailed over the ward, by the sound of someone rising.
“Mike?” Rosie called softly, watching her friend as he gazed around the room at the electrical instruments.
The cords pulled themselves from their sockets and switched off, and then the tubes and needles in his skin pulled themselves out and fell limp to the floor - lifeless. The emcee stood up and changed into his normal clothes, and Rosie crept along with him as he upped and left, walking with a deliberate, deadly stride down the hall and to the elevator, which he took down the ground floor and then walking off down the street.
Rosie followed dutifully, terror pounding in her heart and with the monster snarling at her, keeping her well out of Mike’s body.
There was the sound of sirens - and Mike bolted, charging down the street as fast as he could go - Rosie kept up with him easily, following the pounding of his footfalls on the pavement all the way to the suburbs, all the way to Rob’s house.

“Hello?” Leila said.
“Hello dear, did you get the papers?” Mrs. Rosenwire asked.
“Oh yeah, I got them two days ago actually. I’ve rang the number and that and I’m assuming it won’t be long before I get a call back or something.” Leila replied while shifting the Tupperware she had unpacked from a box.
Mira was licking her toes and getting in the way as usual.
“Well that’s nice dear. Leila, do you remember who your friend was?” Leila’s mother fell silent, curious.
Leila stopped and her brow furrowed as she mulled over it.
“Not really. I remember his name was Blue... And I remember he always smelt of roses... Hmm... I can’t remember much at all actually.” Leila frowned.
Mrs. Rosenwire laughed.
“You’ll remember sure enough. Well dear, I’ve got to go, I promised Mrs. Fisher I’d take Peach for a walk.”
“Okay then mom, bye.”
“Bye dear, take care.”
“I will you too.” Leila hung up the phone and almost like a cue, the door knocked.
“I’m coming, I’m coming...” Leila stepped over the mess on the floor with Mira obediently at her heels.
She opened the door and was greeted by a man she had never seen before.
“Hello, Miss. Rosenwire?” The man asked.
“Yeah...?” Leila watched him warily.
The man was about five foot something, his hair was a sandy brown which he’d slicked back neatly, his eyes were a dark hazel and his face bore a friendly, lopsided smile and he was dressed in a navy suit.
“I’m Alex Crowell, here on behalf of Brad Delson. You rang the hotline?” Alex asked.
“Yeah. I did. Come in, don’t mind the mess...” Leila turned and walked through the mess to the dining room. “I’ve just moved here and I haven’t had time to really unpack. I’m going to have visitors here soon.”
“That’s alright. Now you believe you’re Gracie McArley?” Alex asked as he carefully weaved his way to the couch.
“More than that. I know I am - see, mom and dad thought it would be best if I didn’t know, and since I never asked, well, it was okay. I found out I was adopted when I was about sixteen, but I never had any wish to find out more about who I was or find my birth parents mainly because I was told by everyone I asked that my mom was dead and my dad had been jailed for murder. My live went on; I traveled a lot, which was normal. We always traveled when I was younger. I heard the live broadcast a few weeks ago and my mom rang up asking me about it and it was then I found out that my name had been Gracie Ingrid Ann McArley.” Leila handed Alex the papers.
“I see.” Alex said as he looked through the papers. “Do you remember much of your life before you were adopted?”
“Nah. I was six years old. I remember there was a boy called Blue and I remember he always smelt of roses... I remember Chopin somehow. But nothing much else.” Leila shrugged.
“Well that’s understandable. These papers are authentic...” Alex smiled slightly. “Might I ask if -”
Alex was interrupted by the knocking of the door.
“S’cuse me.” Leila got up and went to open the door, instantly people came in. “Hey guys!”
“How are you doing honey? Getting along well - who’s this you got here?” An elderly lady asked.
“Ah yeah, Lesley, Kim, Jay, Olivia, Moraine, this is Alex. Alex, this is Lesley, Kim, Jay, Olivia and Moraine.” Leila introduced everyone.
Alex had got up and greeted Olivia and Moraine with a handshake, but hugged Lesley, Kim and Jay in a friendly way.
“You know each other?” Leila asked to Jay.
“Sure we do. Alex is good buddies with Brad.” Jay shrugged. “Inevitably Mike knows him as well.”
Leila grinned.
“I thought as much.” She chortled.
“Anyway, as I was saying, would you mind taking a flight to New York City to meet with Brad?” Alex asked, turning back to Leila.
“Really?” Leila froze. “You’re kidding right?”
“No, I can book you a flight on the private plane tonight if you want. Or I can arrange for Brad to meet you here.” Alex smiled.
“Ah well I... Um... Mira...” Leila stuttered.
“I’ll take care of her. Bessie won’t mind the company.” Kim interjected.
Leila smiled and blushed slightly for some unknown reason.
“Well I - I guess I can go tonight then...” She said at last.
“Okay then, I’ll get it going.” Alex smiled and took a cell phone out of his pocket.
