night time talks

Carrie's pov





Carrie sat stoned faced watching as Kelly and her father had a heated discussion across the garden. His face when they both walked out of the bedroom was a picture, Carrie would have laughed if it wasn't for the fear she felt coming from Kelly. She was happy to sit back on the garden chair and watch, Kelly seemed to be winning whatever argument they were having.



'It's his pride........'Carrie turned to see Kelly's step mother standing behind her, her eyes focused fully on her husband. 'And his shame.........'



'Of what?.......'Carrie kept her eyes on Kelly in case she was needed at any moment.



''He carries a lot of shame for leaving her behind all those years ago......he thinks if he would have stayed she wouldn't hate men so much...........'Carrie couldn't believe her ears.



'You think she hates men?.........'



'She must........I mean why else would she have choose you.......'Kelly's step mom quickly closed her mouth. ' that didn't sound right.......i'm sure there are hundreds of reasons why she chose you........what I mean is her father has this idea that she doesn't like men cause he left all those years ago........that's all........' Carrie collected her thoughts before she opened her mouth to speak, she really wanted to get her point across.



'Kelly......she's got a handful of men around her all the time...........and each one she loves.......her brother her band.....most of her management.....all men, Kelly is far from a man hater...........'



'But then why you?.........' Carrie pushed the image of beating this woman around the garden out her head as she looked toward her wife again.



'Love?........' and im really good in bed, carrie thought to herself.



'Stephan just thinks she's making life difficult for herself..........and you......i mean your parents must hate this too.........'



'My parents happen to love Kelly...........and are a hundred percent behind us no matter what.............' Carrie kept her eyes on Kelly, there was no use starting a fight and making Kelly take sides again. It would only take another hour for the car to be fixed then they would get the hell out of there for another year. Kelly shook her head from side to side obviously not agreeing with whatever her father had said.





Kelly's pov





He had been going on for over ten minutes now, still the same thing she got the last time she visited. This time though it annoyed Kelly. His constant bad mouthing for her marriage really wasn't something she could take any more.



'All i'm say is your getting older........the fun lifestyle you once had can't be good for you now........isn't it time to settle down........'



'Dad ive been married for five years......i don't see how more settled I can get............' Kelly could feel Carrie watching her, making sure she was ok, ready to jump in at any moment.



'I mean really settle down.......a nice house......garden......a few kids........' Kelly listened as her father listed all the things he had with her mother before he decided he didn't want it any more.



'We have a nice house with an amazing garden.........and well the kids thing is getting closer by the day......'



'I don't mean that......'Kelly's father sighed in disgust. 'Not with her.........i mean a real relationship......not this cry for attention.......'



'Cry for attention?.........'Kelly was really trying to keep herself calm, she looked to Carrie who was in deep discussion with her step mom. She knew she had to stay calm for her, there was no point causing a fight that Carrie would only blame herself for.



'You can't honestly tell me you love her........'Kelly watched in shock as her father smirked at her. The desire to smack it off him was so strong she had to take a step but just so she wouldn't try it.



'I don't expect you to understand..........'



'And I really don't.......'



'I love her dad..........'



'No you don't.........' Kelly felt her fathers hands wrap around her shoulders as he forced her to look at him. ' You don't have to try for my attention any more.........you can stop trying to shock me............'



'Dad........' Before Kelly could say anything else she saw Carrie coming to the side of her, her face masked in confusion and anger.



'What are you doing?......' With one quick movement Kelly was out of her fathers arms and into her wife's 'Kelly?.....'she look up at her in complete shock, not knowing what to say.





Carrie's pov





Carrie didn't give herself a second to think, the moment she saw her father in law grab herself by the arms she was out her seat and across the garden. She knew deep down he wouldn't hurt her but her instincts kicked in before she could tell herself that.



'I was talking to my daughter......'Carrie made a protective wall in front of her wife, shielding her from any harm.



'And now your talking to me.........'



'You listen to me.......'



'No you listen.......ive had enough of watching you beat down your own daughter,........' Carrie paused slightly making sure what she was about to do wasn't going to make Kelly even more angry than she already was. When she looked all she saw was her wife upset and afraid. It was all she needed to finish her conversation with her father in law. 'You need to grow up and accept a few things.........'



'I don't need to do anything.......'



'You do if you want any sort of relationship with your daughter.........and if you want that then you accept me cause im not going anywhere...........I love your daughter......very much......I've loved her from the moment I met her......and I'm going to keep loving her as long as my heart beats.........now you may not like that.........and the idea may disgust you but it's the truth........and no matter what happens im always going to be there for her.....no matter what.....ill never walk out on her..........and that is why she loves me.......cause she knows my love for her won't go away.........i won't get bored and decided I don't want it any more........so if you can't accept all of that, then we'll go now and you'll never have to see us again............' Carrie took the deep breath she needed as she stepped back feeling for Kelly's hand. She was pretty proud of herself as she looked at her wife's tear stained face, she loved the happy tears. Carrie was even more amazed she remembered that little speech, it had been one she had practised over and over again in her head for Jeanne. She was determined to give it to the older woman at a moments notice if need be.



'Right.....'Carrie looked to see Kelly's father shake the unsteadiness out of his body. 'Anything you want to add there Kelly?........'



'I love her.......I can't say it any clearer.........' Carrie could feel Kelly's shaky body next to her as she answered her father. Carrie fought against herself to reach out and hold her wife close.



'Well I need a drink.........' Kelly's father didn't wait for an answer before walking past them and into his house. He made sure to leave the door open as he passed.





Kelly's pov





Kelly didn't know whether to kiss or kick her wife as she watched her father walk past them to the house. He looked so angry while Carrie laid into him. As she turned to Carrie all anger she could have felt melted away.



'Please don't kill me........' Carrie bit her lip as she begged.



'I really don't know what to do.......i mean is he accepting us or what.......' Carrie looked passed her wife towards the open door.



'I don't know........' she answered honestly.



'He didn't yell..........or throw us out.........' Kelly stole a peak at the open door before turning back to Carrie.



'I really am sorry.......'Carrie admitted.



'I swear if we weren't standing in my fathers garden........'Kelly commented.



'You'd kill me?.....' Carrie suggested.



'Or kiss you all over..........'



'Excuse me?.......'



'That would have been the sexist thing ever if my father hadn't been here.........' Kelly found the urge to take two steps forward and wrap her arms around her wife's waist. 'And the most romantic.........and I swear the moment we're alone your so getting some.........'



'Thank you.......' Carrie wanted to smack herself the moment she said it, she shock her head in disgust with herself.



'Your welcome.......' Kelly said with a smirk.



'Whiskeys poured..........'Both singers turned to see Kelly's father standing at the door with a glass in his hand. He soon disappeared when they both acknowledged him.



'Guess he's accepting.......' Kelly whispered as she gripped Carrie's hand.



'Or getting me drunk before he kills me........' Carrie commented as they took the unsteady steps towards the house.
