This is a work of fiction. I do not know Robbie Williams. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Chapter Seven
Robbie hugged me for a long time and then whispered "I'll see you when I get back. I'll miss you." "I'll miss you too." I felt my eyes tearing up, I didn't want him to know that I was about to cry, so I put on my biggest smile and said
"Hurry back." He gave me a kiss and got into the car with Colin. Robbie had to go to London for a week to do charity concert. He'd asked me to go with him but I wasn't ready to be seen out in public with him. It had only been a month since we started sleeping together. And I did not want to end up on the cover of some sleazy magazine. I went back inside, I didn't really have anything to do since he and Colin were both gone. I had dinner with Stella a couple of times but I spent most of the time in my room writing on my lap top.
On the day before Robbie was to come back, I was really missing him. I even went into his bedroom and smelt his pillow, I know it was a weird thing to do, but I couldn't help myself. I decided to check out some of the sites devoted to him to see how the concert turned out, I was shocked to see a pictures of Robbie with two very tall and gorgeous blondes hanging off of him. I tried to stay calm, I was sure they had posed for the pictures, just for the press. But inside I could feel the insecurity start to rip apart my trust. I read the story that went with the picture, the women were models who attended the concert, it then went on to say that they went back to Robbie's hotel until late into the evening.
"Why does this always happen to me?" I began to cry to myself. My ex-fiancee, Trevor, had cheated on me, and two other boyfriends had cheated on me too. Did I have "doormat" tattoo'd on my face? What was it about me that men knew they could treat me like shit? Robbie and I had only been together a month, and he was already bored. I knew it would happen but I didn't think it would be so soon. I knew I should wait to hear his side of the story, but I was so used to being betrayed that I couldn't face him. I packed up my things and wrote a note to him, telling him that things weren't going to work out but I appreciated him giving me a chance to work for him. I left the key on the counter with the note and then I left.
I stayed with Stella the first night, I told her everything. "Fran, you should really wait for him. Don't you think you are jumping the gun? What you read came from a tabloid, you know you can't believe those things." She was trying to calm me down and I loved her for it.
"I could never compare to those women, they were models. And I am sure he has been with so many women he gets bored of regular sex."
"Fran, just stay here a few days and let things calm down."
"Okay" I told her, but I was planning on leaving first thing in the morning before Robbie even landed in L.A. I woke up at 5 am and snuck out of the apartment and took a cab to the bus station. Then I took a bus back home, it was a long bus ride, almost 17 hours.
"Fr "Francis, I can't believe you would show up without calling us first." My mother said to me. She was making up the bed in my old room.
"Sorry mom, I didn't have time to call. Can we talk about it later? I am so tired." I jumped into the bed as soon as she got the sheets on and closed my eyes and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning and called Stella.
"Fran, he's going crazy. When he got back and found you gone, he went into your room looking for you. He made Colin bring him here to my place. You should call him. He's really upset. Colin said that Robbie hasn't eaten anything and he just lays in your old bed." I felt terrible, maybe I should go back to him.
"Did Colin say anything about the models?" I asked Stella.
"He said he didn't know anything about it, he spent the week with his mum and dad. But he also said Robbie spent the entire flight there and back talking about you. You should call him." Stella said.
"Maybe, I think I am going to cash in my savings bonds and go to Greece now." I told her.
"What? Don't do that. Thats for you future, kids, home or retirement. You always said you were saving that." Stella always believed in saving for a rainy day.
"I'm young, I will have 40 more years to work and save up for my retirement. As for a family and a home. I doubt I will ever get married. I'll let you when I am settled, I will email you so make sure you check it. I love you." I told her and then I hung up.
I got a shower and ate a quick breakfast before I went to the bank. I booked a flight for Greece the next morning and had a long talk with my mom, I didn't tell her everything about Robbie, but that I was leaving before I got hurt. She was really suppotive of me, telling me to live out my dream if I could.
"Fran, you have wanted this for years, just be careful and don't talk to any strange men. As for your young man, you can't rway way from a broken heart. And you can't judge every man by a few. He is different from Trevor and he probably deserves a chance to at least speak to you." Mom was right.
"I'll call him when I get to Greece." I promised her.
I had been in Santorini for just over 2 weeks. When I got there I found a small house to rent, it was close to a market and it was near the bottom of a steep hill. Santorini was a small island that had many steep hills, I was also able to buy a used bike that would help me travel around the island. Every morning I sat out on the small terrace and wrote my book. Then I would take a walk or a bike ride after lunch. Then I would eat an early dinner and write late into the evening. I didn't talk to many people other than my neighbours and the couple that ran the market, but I wasn't lonely. I still hadn't called Robbie, I didn't know what to say to him now, but my mom was right I couldn't run from a broken heart, and each night I lay in bed and thought about him. I had emailed Stella several times and spoken with my mom. Stella told me that Robbie was still upset and regularly called her to ask about me. She thought I was being a idiot to throw away a great guy like Robbie, but she didn't understand. I had to do it before he threw me away.
I finshed writing for the morning and decided to walk to the market to pick up some vegetable for dinner.
"Good morning, Mr. Naskos." I said to the shop keeper in Greek. I was picking up a few phrases.
"Good ing ing Fran, I have some delicous dates over here." I bought several dates along with the vegetable and began to walk home. Sitting out on my front stairs leading to the door was Robbie. I stood still and looked around, deciding whether I shoud walk up to him or to run away. He saw me coming and stood up.
"Hello Frank."
