You check yourself in the mirror one last time before running to answer the door.
Taking a deep breath, you fly the door open to find him standing in front of you. He’s wearing a black jacket and shirt. You smile to yourself when you see the Gerard Butler’s trade marks: well worn, ripped jeans and white sneakers.
You look at each other for a while before he clears his throat and hands you a package. You instantly recognize the shape of a wine bottle.
“I read in a magazine that’s your favorite…” he says pointing to the bottle.
You look at him open mouthed. How could a man like that have paid so much attention to me? you wonder.
“So, can I come in…?” he raises his eyebrows at you.
“Oh, sorry. Yes, please, come in.”
He walks in, when you step out of the way, and spins around scanning the apartment.
“Nice place! Did you decorate it yourself?”
“Yes. I bought everything I wanted and spent a week decorating it. I’m glad you liked it.” You smile walking to the kitchen to open the wine bottle.
You pick two wine glasses and place them on the sink, quickly pouring some wine in them.
You place the bottle on the sink and walk back to the living room with both glasses in your hands.
“I didn’t if you wanted to drink it now…” you start but stop dead in your tracks as you look at the sight in front of you.
You let both glasses drop to the wooden floor as you watch Gerry with your son on his lap, helping him open a colorful package.
“What are you doing?” you ask, forgetting completely about the wine spread across the floor.
“I’m helping him open the present I bought him.” He says looking up at you with a smile on his face. “Hmm, you drop the glasses. Need help with that?” he asks placing the boy on the couch beside him and walking over to you.
You watch him through teary eyes as he bends down to pick up the glasses.
“Thankfully they are not broken.” he says looking at you. “Are you ok?” he asks when he sees the terrified look in your face.
You look down and shake your head. “Hmm, yes. I’m ok. Let me just get something to clean this.”
You feel him following you.
He places the glasses on the skin and start the water, washing them.
As you walk back with a cloth in your hand he reaches out and grabs your arm.
“What’s his name?” he asks when you turn to look at him.
“Whose name?”
“Your son’s. You never told me his name…”
You swallow as you look in his eyes. How could you feel so weak in front of him…
“It’s… hmmm… it’s Erik.”
You watch his face light up with a smile.
“Erik?”
“Yes, I always loved the book and the Broadway play… What can I say, I’ve always been a Phantom fan… and Erik is a beautiful name.” You state looking down and contorting the cloth in your hands.
“Yes, it is.”
“I’m sorry, I freaked out before… it’s jut that, I’m not used to see men around Erik… I mean, his father is…” you start saying as you wonder if you should tell him or not.
He places his hand on yours cutting you of.
“I know.” He says and your eyes fly to his.
You feel the blood leaving your face.
“You know?”
“Yes… I know.”
