Chapter Eight

It had been almost three months since Chris had seen her. After she switched shows, he only ever saw her on television. Sometimes she would stop in at a house show and fool around backstage, but she made sure to avoid him. Chris sighed and finished donning his make up for the show. It wasn't that he wasn't happy for her, he was. At first he'd been angry that she hadn't told him that she'd be changing sooner. Then Lita had told him later that Molly had had a meeting Vince that same day. Chris sighed again. If this is what she wanted, then he was all for it. But he'd seen her on Smackdown and she hadn't had one match since she started. Mostly she played arm candy for her cousin Hardcore. He knew she was better than that. Yeah, but like I'm going to get to tell her any time soon. Chris looked at himself in the mirror. He was thinner than he had been three months ago and harder. All those nights at the gym, trying to get Molly off my mind. Well, tonight it was going to pay off. He was going to be winning the IC belt from Christian. Looking up as a knock sounded from the door, Chris yelled out ,"It's open!" Edge came into the room, smiling at his friend.
"Excited about tonight?" Chris shrugged.
"Sure." Looking at his fellow canadian with concern, Edge lightly touched Jericho's shoulder.
" 'Sure'? That's it? You've been waiting for this moment for the last six months, Chris!" Chris sighed and stood, stretching his arms and rolling his neck.
"Listen, I just...I don't know what. I mean, I am glad that I'm getting the belt. Hell, that asshole Christian has had it coming to him to be taken down a peg. But..." Through his friends speech, Edge's eyes narrowed as a smile crossed his lips.
"But it's not the same without Molly here." Chris' head jerked up at Edge's comment, his eyes telling the truth. Realizing he was backed into a corner, Chris laughed, humorlessly.
"God, am I that transparent?" Edge clapped his shoulder.
"She's hurting too, Chris." Smiling grimly, Chris walked over and put his hands on the dressing table, letting his head fall between his arms. "She's sure hiding it well."
"Look, have you seen her in any matches lately? Has she had much airtime at all since she switched rosters? No. Because she can't wrestle." Chris' head jerked up once again as he eyed the blonde man suspiciously.
"What do you mean, can't wrestle?" A terrifiying thought crossed Chris' mind. Reaching out and grabbing Edge's arm tightly he asked hoarsely. "She's not hurt is she?! It's her head..." Shrugging off the panicked man's hands, Edge took a step back.
"Whoa, man! She's alright, physically speaking." he reassured his friend, bringing some of the color back to his face. "But emotionally she's a wreck...has been since you guys spent those two weeks together." Chris looked up at Edge. He'd known the man since they were 10 years old. He could trust him. Taking a deep breath, Chris admitted the thing that would change the rest of his life one way or the other.
"I'm in love with her."
Edge shrugged. "Then tell her." Chris laughed out loud.
"Oh, sure! I'll just walk up to her and say, 'I know you wouldn't piss down my throat if my guts were on fire, Molly, but I'm in love with you.' " Edge shoved a hand through his long blonde tresses.
"At least talk to her. Even if she doesn't want to be with you, she does have the right to know." Slowly nodding Chris made up his mind.
"You're right. After my match, I'm going to find her and tell her...I know she's here tonight, because she's commentating the first two matches with J. R. and King." Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he couldn't help but worry. I'll tell her -- but will she listen? It was a chance he was gonna have to take.

Molly barely made it to the bathroom before she relieved her stomach of it's contents. She'd been sick for the last week, seemingly catching whatever it was that had kept her cousin and several of her friends off of TV for the last couple of days. Standing and splashing cold water on her face, she spotted a calendar on the wall. It's not really been three months, has it? Molly thought, walking over to pick up the offending calendar. It seemed like yesterday Chris' arms had been around her, laughing and talking, making love...
Squeezing her eyes shut as another wave of nausea hit, she will herself to hold it down. Breathing deeply, opening her eyes slowly. She again looked at the calendar. Something else grabbed her attention and she frowned, flipping quickly back through it. Shock took over her features. It had been two weeks before her "accident" since she'd had her period... This time she didn't bother to fight it as Molly flew back into the bathroom. Emerging a few minutes later, she sat down shakily. Placing a palm lightly across her slightly rounded stomach she whispered, "I'm pregnant." Immediately the thought brought a smile to her lips, just as quickly to be replaced with a frown when she thought of the baby's father. What would Chris say? Would he think she was lying to get him back? Her next thought was interrupted by a knock on her locker room door. She got up, sighing as she made her way to the door. The PPV had ended about 45 minutes ago and she'd been pretty sure that she was one of the last wrestlers left in the building. Wrenching open the door, she stood face to face with the man that had haunted her every moment for the last 3 months.
His eyes drank in her appearance hungrily. Her beautiful blue eyes had dark circles under them, as if she hadn't been getting enough sleep and she had lost weight. Her baby blue wraparound shirt hung slightly off her shoulders as her black pants did her hips. He cleared his throat, shoving his hands in the pockets of his worn levi's, unsure of what to say. "Uh, hi. Can I t-talk to you for a minute?"
She stepped back from the door allowing him to pass in front of her. She shut the door, turning to him. "Chris, I--" His lips against hers cut off any words that might have escaped. With a groan, she plastered herself to him, kissing him back with everything she had. Breaking off the kiss abruptly, Chris leaned his forehead against Molly's holding her tightly to his body so that she could feel his rock hard erection against her tummy. "I need you." His words were like a splash of cold water on her senses. Quickly shoving away from him, she drew back and slapped him with a resounding *crack*.
"How dare you come in here and man handle me, Chris Jericho! I am not some cheap little ring rat who you can run to for sex when you feel like it!" Marching over to the door, she jerked it open, waiting. "I think you should leave, Chris."
Walking over to her calmly, Chris shut the door firmly behind her and locked it. He placed a finger across her lips, preventing the spout of words that wanted to fly from her mouth. Cupping her face in his hands he gently brushed away the tears that had inadvertedly fallen down her pale cheeks. Looking down into the face of the woman that he loved, Chris opened his heart to the world. "I love you, Molly." Not waiting for her response he swiftly captured her lips, this time pouring all of the love in his soul into it. Moments later, as they reluctantly broke the kiss, Chris looked down to see Molly crying again.
"Molly? What is it?" Pausing and considering the last three months they'd spent away from each other, Chris dropped his arms where they had cradled her. "Is there someone else?" He asked, not really wanting an answer to the question. Bubbly laughter coming from the petite brunette startled him. She looked up into his eyes and he could see all the love he'd hoped would be there.
"No, Chris. I've only ever been in love with one man...and that's you." She placed her hands on either side of his cheeks, her soft palms rubbing against the stubble that covered his face. She brought his lips to hers and lightly nuzzled them. "I love you, Chris Jericho." With a shout of joy, Chris picked Molly up, swinging her around.
"Chris! Put me down!" Chris stopped and put her on her feet, just in time for her to run to the bathroom., Chris followed close behind her, only to have her slam the door in his face. He allowed her her privacy, but grabbed her as soon as she emerged,pale-faced.
"Molly, sweetheart? Are you alright?" She nodded and settled into Chris' outstretched arms. He picked her up and crossed the room to the couch, where he settled her in his lap. After a moment Chris spo"Mol"Molly, I'm sorry-- I never meant to give you the impression that those two weeks meant nothing to me..." Molly interupted.
"I think we both got our connections crossed, Chris. And then we let our pride get in the way of our happiness." They continued discussing what had gone wrong and their plans for the future. After an hour, Molly finally felt confident enough to tell him. "Chris?"
Nuzzling her neck and taking in the scent that he had gone without for too long, Chris murmured er eer ear, "Hhhmmm?" Leaning back, Molly looked into his eyes, drawing strength from the love shining from the crystal blue orbs.
"I'm coming back to the RAW roster..." Smiling broadly, excitement sounded in his voice.
"YES!! That's fantastic, Molls!"
"...but I won't be able to wrestle for a while." she finished. Concern quickly replaced the joy on Chris' face.
"Why? Is it your head? Is it bothering you again? Maybe you should take some time off.." Molly sild hid him with a quick kiss.
"No, it's not my head. Chris..."
"What, Molly? Is it something else?" Taking a deep breath, she dropped the bombshell.
"I won't be wrestling because...it wouldn't be good for the baby." Chris sat motionless. Baby? he thought. She's having my baby? I'm going to be a daddy? Suddenly aware of the wary look on Molly's face he whispered, "I'm gonna be a father?!" She nodded. With a loud shout, Chris jumped up taking Molly with him and held her tightly to his heart. Suddenly the room was flooded with people. Edge, Lita, Matt and Jeff Hardy all came running in.
"Are you guys alright?" Matt asked, breathlessly. They had been at the end of the hall, getting ready to leave when they had heard shouts coming from the locker room. Chris grinned at his friends. Stepping behind the love of his life, he gently placed his hands over the new life growing in her.
"We're gonna have a baby!"
For the next few minutes things were crazy with shouts of congratulations flying through the air and hugs and handshakes being passed around. Pulling Chris briefly aside, Edge handed him a small velvet box. Chris looked at his friend in confusion.
"Remember how you told me once that when you finally decided on the perfect woman, you were going to give her your grandmother's ring?" Chris' eyes lit with understanding. "Well, since my match was one of the first, I took off to your parents house. Your mom me me the ring -- with the strict instructions that you are to call her first thing in the morning. " Chris smiled, grabbing his oldest friend in a hug. Turning to the rest of his friends, he said, "Hey guys? Could you give us a moment?" Grinning slyly at the two wrestlers, the group left the two alone. Chris turned to where Molly stood, watching him in the mirror. Going to her and putting his arms around her belly, he couldn't help but smile.
"We're gonna have a baby, Molly. We made a life." Molly nodded smiling at him through the happy tears that brightened her eyes. Chris turned her to face him staring lovingly down at her. "Only one thing could possibly make this more perfect." Dropping to his knees, Chris held out the ring that had been in his family for five generations. Taking a shocked Molly's hand, he kissed the spot that would hopefully soon be wearing that ring. Looking up at this woman who had turned his life around and made him learn to not judge a book by it's cover, he no longer tried to hold back the tears he had held inside. Tears sliding down both of their faces, Chris asked the question that would change his life.
"Molly Isabella Holly. I need you more than I need my next breath. My life means nothing unless you're in it. You already have my heart...now, please say you'll take my name. Molly, will you do me the honor of spending the rest of your life with me?"
Sliding the ring on her finger, Chris watched Molly's face. A radiant smile shone through her tears. "Yes, Chris. I love you." Still on his knees, Chris moved in, wrapping his arms around her waist and pressing his face up against her stomach.
"Hey in there! I've only known you about 3 hours now, but already I love you more than I thought possible. Your Mommy and I will do the best we can to make sure you have a happy life." He placed a kiss against her stomach and slid up her body, keeping his arms around Molly. Holding her close, Chris smiled. His heart was finally complete.

Author's note: Wow! My first finished fic! This pairing is a favorite of mine and it was really fun to come up with some of the smart aleck retorts Molly and Chris threw at each other.
All that and it only took...2 weeks? :0) I can't help it...I'm slow by nature.
Feedback is wonderful, good or bad, and is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for letting me entertain you for a short time!
