Chapter 8
*Benji
It’s 8:00, and we hear the bus honking, so we go outside with gay ass school stuff, and head for the bus. When we get on, we head for the back row, Billy and me sit together, and Joel ends up in the row ahead of us.
” So… Benji are we like… going out, or Joel and me going out, or are all three of us going out? Billy asks, with his head facing to the floor. Joel turns around and says,
” I don’t know about you fags, but this fag isn’t going out with either of you.” When Joel says that, Benji and me just start laughing loudly.
” Ok…then, Billy, since we aren’t going out, would you go out with me?” I ask.
Billy nods his head ‘yes’ and says, “ Of course Benji, I love you” and gives me a kiss.
”Aw that’s so cute!” says Joel.
”Hey Joel, don’t be jealous, cause I have the hottest guy in school” I say to Joel.
” Yah, you do have ONE of the hottest.” Says Joel, and he turns back around.
We head up to school, and we go inside. We catch up with Aaron and Paul, and we find out that Billy has 3 classes with them Joel has 1 with Aaron, and 5 with Paul, and I have 5 with Aaron and 2 with Paul. Billy and I have 6 classes together, and Joel and I have 4 classes together. The bell rings, and Billy, Paul and I head over to English. Then I go to P.E. I meet back up with Billy in all my other classes.
10 weeks later…
*Billy
Man, Benji, and I have been together for 10 weeks, and today I’m actually adopted! YES! This day is going to be one my best days. I can tell.
” HONK! HONK! HONK!” the bus. Sigh. I hate school. Oh well.
*Joel
I got on the bus first, and in the place I usually sit in, there is a girl crying. I go over there, and I sit down by her, and she looks like she’s a gothic, she has a black tank top on, and black pants. She also has a whole lot of bracelets on, and black hair. She looked over at me, and she has her eyebrow pierced, and he lip is also pierced.
” Hey, I’m Joel” I turn around and point at Benji and Billy and say “ those are my fagot friends, they may be making out a lot just to warn you” she laughs a bit, I like her laugh its cute.” That one there is Billy, and that’s Benji, my brother… my twin brother.” I say.
” Hi, I’m Carey, but everyone calls me Carson.”
” Ok Carson, what’s up, why were you crying?” I ask.
” Oh… well there’s a lot of reasons, my mom moved us here, because my brothers abused me, in more then one way. My sister is in rehab, or else she would be here with me, she’s my younger sister, but we still look a lot alike, and I know this will sound gay, but at the last school I went to, everyone there always fucking punched me, and I had no friends, and I always got kicked out for punching someone. It just worried me is all.” Said Carson.
” Well… I’d like it if we were friends. Cause you seem pretty cool. You like black… and…all… and your really pretty!” I say, and she laughed.
” Yah…but if you seen my stomach, and my legs. You wouldn’t think so.” Said Carson. She’s really cool. I really like her. Hmm… I may be gay. But I’m also straight. So I’m bisexual. Hmm…. I like this girl!
” Well, at least now you don’t have to put up with him.” I say.
” Yah… at least.” She says.
” So. What are your classes.” I ask.
” Well hold on,” she says, and she grabs something from her messenger bag. I look at her sheet of paper, and we have 6 classes together. Plus lunch. We just don’t have Math.
” Well 6/7 is good! We just don’t have math together, which is last period. I will show you were it is, this is your first day right?” I ask.
” Yeah. It is.” She says, and smiles. I smile back. We get back at school, and see Aaron and Paul, and I walk up to them with Carson.
” Hey guys, this is Carson, she just moves here, this is Paul, and Aaron.” I say.
“ Hey guys.” She says.
I whisper in here ear “ They may be hot, but I’m sorry, they are also gay.” She laughed and whispered back “ Well… ok, they aren’t THAT hot.” She laughs and asks “ Are you gay?” I whisper
“ Well…I’m bi. But I think I like woman compared to men more.”
She smiles and then whispers “ That’s good. That’s really good” and she blushes. I whisper “ why are we still whispering?’ and she whispers “ I don’t know…” and I whisper “ Oh…Ok, I see,” and I kiss her cheek. She blushes, as do I. Then we just smile and stare at each other. I must not have heard the bell, but Paul was grabbing my arm saying
” Come on dude, we will be late for first period.” Carson, Paul and I go to first period. We have assigned seats, and I sit next to some prep, and an empty desk.
” Hello every one. We have a new student. Carey McKay, Carey-“ said the teacher, but got cut off.
”Carson please, I hate my real name,” she says.
” Ok, Carson, take a seat next to Joel. That is were you will be sitting. Said the teacher.
” Hi” I say, and she says “Hi” also.
” Hey, I was wondering, you know… well we just met and all, but could I have your phone number?” I ask.
” Uh… no…” she says. I just look at her puzzled.
” We don’t have a phone yet!” she says, and we both laugh.
” But. You can give me yours. We are getting our phone hooked up today and all… sorry if I scared you or something,” she says. I write down my phone number and hand it to her.
”Thanks!” she says, and Carson and me just go along for the rest of the period talking.
At lunch…
*Joel
Carson and me walk over to the guys, Benji, Billy, Paul, Aaron, Seth, Craig, Neil, Mandy, Paula, Ruth, and Nicole. I introduce her to all of them, and Mandy says
” Hey, don’t make Joel forget anything. We need him. He is the one that has the map.” We just laugh, except for Carson.
” Oh, yah, we are going to this one concert, and we have another ticket, since Craig can’t go, do you want to? It’s Rancid! I say, waving a ticket that was in my pocket in her face.
” YES! I love rancid!” she says, and try’s to take the ticket, and I wouldn’t let her have it, and then… I kissed her, while giving her the ticket; I really want Carson to come. When we ended the kiss, we were just smiling to each other.
”AW! 2 MORE LOVE BIRDS!” said everyone else at the table, and we just start laughing. I take Carson’s hand, and we sit down to eat. The day worked out perfectly. After school, Benji, and Billy were teasing me about kissing Carson.
” Ha, you kissed a GIRL!” said Billy, I laugh.
” Yah, I did, and I LIKED IT!” I say. This happened all day.
” RING! RING! RING!” I hear the phone.
” JOEL! ITS YOUR LOVELY CARSON ON THE PHONE!” he screams. I blush. I answer the phone and say
” Hello?”
” Hi Joel. What’s up? It’s Carson.” She says.
” So I heard. Hold on” I say.
” Benji get the fuck out of here.” I say to Benji with my hand on the phone, and Benji walks off laughing.
” Sorry about that, uh… nothing much is happening here.” I say.
” Oh, cool.” She says.
” What about you?” I ask.
” Oh, well about today. When you kissed me. That’s been on my mind a lot. I really like you, even though I barely know you.” She says. I can feel my cheeks flaming.
” I really like you a lot too. So…. Maybe you’d, you know, like to uh… go out with me on a date?” I ask.
” Yah! I would love to!” she says.
“ How about this Friday?” I ask.
”Friday is good.” She says, and gives me her address.
”Ok, I will probably pick you up around 6:30. Is that fine?” I ask.
” Yah, that’s cool, I’ll be ready.” She says. Man, I love Fridays.
” Oh, yah, about the Rancid Concert. That is in 3 weeks. We will pick you up in a van in around 8:00 in the morning. Sorry if that is too early.” I say.
” It’s not, thanks for… you know…. Inviting me to the concert, and everything.”
” No problem. I really like you, or else I wouldn’t have invited you right?” I ask
” Yah, right!” she says, but not sarcastically, I can tell, and we are talking for hours, about random things. Just anything. She really likes a lot of the same music I like she’s awesome. Then, she had to go, so I said, “See yah” and she hung up.
Later, Benji and Billy kept teasing me about this Friday, cause I told them that Carson and me are going out. Hums… were should I take her? I wonder… maybe just dinner, or a movie, or both. Hum… I will let her decide what she wants to do.
-FRIDAY-
* Joel
It is 5:30. I have her address, and I’m using Paul’s car. Goddamn, I am so nervous! I hope she doesn’t get dressed up…cause I’m not. I have on baggy jeans, and a t-shirt, not exactly high class. This week has been so great. I guess you can call Carson and me a ‘couple’ cause we are. She’s really cool, and it’s like now Mandy, Paula, Ruth, Nicole and her are best friends! She also likes the guys too, and they like her. It is great. Man, do I know how to fall for a girl or what? I look at the clock and it’s 5:45. I better am going to pick up Carson now. I take out the piece of paper with her address on it, and I get into the car, and heed for her house. Her house is nice. It’s not too big, but it’s not little either. It is about the same size as my house, but I think mine is a little smaller. I knock on the door, and some little girl answers. She can’t be more then five or six years old. A woman comes beside her and asks,
” Oh, hello, you are Carey’s date right?”
” Hello, yah, I’m her date, I’m Joel.” I say.
” Hi, I’m Miss McKay, but you can call me Kathy. She will be down in a second. I am so happy you two met, I can tell that you two will have a future already.” She says, and I smile.
” Ok, that’s fine. I hope Carey and me have a future. I like her a lot.” I say.
” She likes you two. She talks about you to Elisabeth right here all the time.” She says, pointing to the little girl.” Come in Joel, please.”
” Ok” I say, and she points for me to sit and wait on the couch. Before I sit, Carson comes from the hallway looking great! She has pretty baggy jeans on, a black rancid t-shirt, a purse that’s all silver and shiny, black eye shadow, and sparkles all over her face. Oh, yes, and little kid berates in her black straight hair. She’s pale, so it must be dyed hair, but it looks good on her. She also has her piercing in.
” Hi Carson.” I say, and walk on over and kiss her hand.
” Hi Joel! Ready to go?” She asks, and she kisses me on the lips.
” Yah, I am, are you?” I ask.
” Yep, I am, Bye mom!” she says.
” Bye Kathy!” I say.
” Bye you two. Oh, and Joel, just make sure she comes home by noon. Honey, if you want to spend the night at Joel’s house, call me, ok?” she says.
” Ok, mom bye.” She says, and we leave. We get in the car and I ask,
” Spend the night huh?’ with a big smile on my face, and laughing hard.
” Yes, spend the night.” She says with a big smile on her face too.
” So, what do you want to do?” I ask.
” Hum…why don’t we go to a restrant? Nothing fancy… please, this is the most that I will get dresses up.” She says.
” Good… nothing fancy. I’m just wondering, but are you vegan or a vegetarian?” I ask.
” Nope, I like to eat meat.” She says.
” Ok, then, do you want to go get some pizza? I ask.
” Sure. I love pizza!” she says in excitement, and I drive over to a pizza restrant. We talk about random things, and eat pizza. After that, it is wow… 10:10. I didn’t realize that I was already 10.
” Hey, do you want to get out of here, and go to a movie or something?” I ask.
” Yah, that would be fun.” She says. I go up to the counter, and pay for the pizza. Thanks to Benji, Billy, and Paul, I have enough money left for the movies.
When we get to the movies there are a couple chick flicks playing. We both don’t want to see that, but there is Scary Movie. I ask her if she wants to see that, and she says sure, I haven’t seen it, but I have been wanting to. I pay for our ticket, and she insisted on paying for a drink and some popcorn. We get to our seats, when we see two familiar faces! Our friends! Ruth and Craig are making out! I can tell its Craig, because he has a mow hawk. It has blue tips, green starting, and in the middle it is black. A great mow hawk it is! We sit behind them, and we throw popcorn at them. Craig looks up and he looks really mad, until her realizes it is us.
” Oh, hey guys, out on your date too?” he asks.
” Yeah, we are. But of course we cant see the screen cause of your mow hawk!” says Carson, and we move up a row, but crawling over the seats. Ruth says
” Hey guys…” she looks terribly embarrassed.
” Hey Ruth, having fun watching the movie?” I ask.
” Yep, I sure am.” She says, and we laugh a little. They go back to making out, and Carson and I just sit there, holding hands, and watching the movie, we are talking through the movie, but I like the movie. It was good. After the movie, I ask
” Hey, Carson, what do you want to do now? We can go back to my house with Benji and Billy, or do something else.”
” Lets go back to your house.” She says, and I drive back to my house. Benji and Billy are still up just watching television. We walk in and they say,
” Hey you two…back already?”
“ Yep we are. I might spend the night to, so you best be watching out when your asleep.” She says. They look at each other and smile.
” Oh really. Wow… are you going to be a big responsible girl tonight?” Billy asks.
” Why would you ask… do you really want to know?” she says. Carson and I just laugh, and sit over on the couch with Benji and Billy, and watch television. Us four we talking and I look over that the clock, and it is two right now.
” Hey, Carson, do you want to spend the night tonight? Mom has the night shift right Benji, so she wont be home until about 10?” I ask.
” Yah, she wont be home till after we go to school, we wont tell her that you spent the night or anything.” Says Benji.
” Yah I do, I’m getting tired.” She says, and she yawns, and goes over to the phone, and says she is going to spend the night. When she comes back, she puts her head on my chest, and I rap my arm around her. The last time I checked the time, it was 2:30, and then we went to sleep.
Billy is shaking me, rather hard. I look down, and Carson’s head is on my lap, and she is fluttering her eyes.
” Dude, it’s 9:30, your mom is coming home soon, you better get up, and get ready.” Says Billy.
” Ok.” I say. Carson gets up, and goes to the bathroom. I go to my room and change.
” Hey Billy, what is your pant size? I need some pants.
Says Carson. Billy hands her a pair of pants, and she goes into the bathroom again Billy and Carson look about the same size. Billy looks too anorexic though. Carson comes out of the bathroom, and it looks like the pants are a little too long, but it fits her.
” Do you have a shirt Joel?” she asks. I look through my drawers, and I give her a smaller rancid shirt, and hand it to her. Then, she changes right in front of my. I look at her bruises, and I touch them, she winces a little, but she keeps letting me touch them.
” Is this what your father and brothers did to you?” I ask, and she nods her head ‘yes’ and then she puts on the rancid shirt, and goes back into the bathroom. When she comes out, she looks great, like she always does. She has her black eye shadow on; it is probably Billy’s. Her hair is straight and has berets in, and it is also brushed. Then, we hear a doors slam, a whisper in Carson’s ear
” Just pretend you got here, ok?” and I take her clothes out of her arms, and put them on the bed, under the blanket. She whispers back
” Ok” and we walk out into the kitchen.
“ Hey, mom, this is my girlfriend Carson.” I say to my mom.
” Oh, hello Carson, I am Robin, when did you get here?” she asks Carson.
” Ok, Robin, Hi, I got here around 9:00, I hope that is fine.” She says.
” Yes, of course it is darling, does your mother know your over here?” she asks.
” Yes, she does, she says it is ok.” Said Carson.
” Um… Mom, we were planning to go to Nicole’s, or Ruth’s house. Maybe Craig’s house, but is that fine?” I ask.
” Yes, that is fine.” Said my mom. Carson and I leave to go to Craig’s house, with Benji and Billy.
-5 hours later-

Oh my! I am so happy now, my sister finally got out of rehab, she came to Craig’s front door, asking for me, and she likes Neil. They have been in the corner making out for some while now. Life is good. I am happy now. I think she approves of Joel, so that is really good.

” Hi Carson.” I say, and walk on over and kiss her hand.
” Hi Joel! Ready to go?” She asks, and she kisses me on the lips.
” Yah, I am, are you?” I ask.
” Yep, I am, Bye mom!” she says.
” Bye Kathy!” I say.
” Bye you two. Oh, and Joel, just make sure she comes home by noon. Honey, if you want to spend the night at Joel’s house, call me, ok?” she says.
” Ok, mom bye.” She says, and we leave. We get in the car and I ask,
” Spend the night huh?’ with a big smile on my face, and laughing hard.
” Yes, spend the night.” She says with a big smile on her face too.
” So, what do you want to do?” I ask.
” Hum…why don’t we go to a restrant? Nothing fancy… please, this is the most that I will get dresses up.” She says.
” Good… nothing fancy. I’m just wondering, but are you vegan or a vegetarian?” I ask.
” Nope, I like to eat meat.” She says.
” Ok, then, do you want to go get some pizza? I ask.
” Sure. I love pizza!” she says in excitement, and I drive over to a pizza restrant. We talk about random things, and eat pizza. After that, it is wow… 10:10. I didn’t realize that I was already 10.
” Hey, do you want to get out of here, and go to a movie or something?” I ask.
” Yah, that would be fun.” She says. I go up to the counter, and pay for the pizza. Thanks to Benji, Billy, and Paul, I have enough money left for the movies.
When we get to the movies there are a couple chick flicks playing. We both don’t want to see that, but there is Scary Movie. I ask her if she wants to see that, and she says sure, I haven’t seen it, but I have been wanting to. I pay for our ticket, and she insisted on paying for a drink and some popcorn. We get to our seats, when we see two familiar faces! Our friends! Ruth and Craig are making out! I can tell its Craig, because he has a mow hawk. It has blue tips, green starting, and in the middle it is black. A great mow hawk it is! We sit behind them, and we throw popcorn at them. Craig looks up and he looks really mad, until her realizes it is us.
” Oh, hey guys, out on your date too?” he asks.
” Yeah, we are. But of course we cant see the screen cause of your mow hawk!” says Carson, and we move up a row, but crawling over the seats. Ruth says
” Hey guys…” she looks terribly embarrassed.
” Hey Ruth, having fun watching the movie?” I ask.
” Yep, I sure am.” She says, and we laugh a little. They go back to making out, and Carson and I just sit there, holding hands, and watching the movie, we are talking through the movie, but I like the movie. It was good. After the movie, I ask
” Hey, Carson, what do you want to do now? We can go back to my house with Benji and Billy, or do something else.”
” Lets go back to your house.” She says, and I drive back to my house. Benji and Billy are still up just watching television. We walk in and they say,
” Hey you two…back already?”
“ Yep we are. I might spend the night to, so you best be watching out when your asleep.” She says. They look at each other and smile.
” Oh really. Wow… are you going to be a big responsible girl tonight?” Billy asks.
” Why would you ask… do you really want to know?” she says. Carson and I just laugh, and sit over on the couch with Benji and Billy, and watch television. Us four we talking and I look over that the clock, and it is two right now.
” Hey, Carson, do you want to spend the night tonight? Mom has the night shift right Benji, so she wont be home until about 10?” I ask.
” Yah, she wont be home till after we go to school, we wont tell her that you spent the night or anything.” Says Benji.
” Yah I do, I’m getting tired.” She says, and she yawns, and goes over to the phone, and says she is going to spend the night. When she comes back, she puts her head on my chest, and I rap my arm around her. The last time I checked the time, it was 2:30, and then we went to sleep.
Billy is shaking me, rather hard. I look down, and Carson’s head is on my lap, and she is fluttering her eyes.
” Dude, it’s 9:30, your mom is coming home soon, you better get up, and get ready.” Says Billy.
” Ok.” I say. Carson gets up, and goes to the bathroom. I go to my room and change.
” Hey Billy, what is your pant size? I need some pants.
Says Carson. Billy hands her a pair of pants, and she goes into the bathroom again Billy and Carson look about the same size. Billy looks too anorexic though. Carson comes out of the bathroom, and it looks like the pants are a little too long, but it fits her.
” Do you have a shirt Joel?” she asks. I look through my drawers, and I give her a smaller rancid shirt, and hand it to her. Then, she changes right in front of my. I look at her bruises, and I touch them, she winces a little, but she keeps letting me touch them.
” Is this what your father and brothers did to you?” I ask, and she nods her head ‘yes’ and then she puts on the rancid shirt, and goes back into the bathroom. When she comes out, she looks great, like she always does. She has her black eye shadow on; it is probably Billy’s. Her hair is straight and has berets in, and it is also brushed. Then, we hear a doors slam, a whisper in Carson’s ear
” Just pretend you got here, ok?” and I take her clothes out of her arms, and put them on the bed, under the blanket. She whispers back
” Ok” and we walk out into the kitchen.
“ Hey, mom, this is my girlfriend Carson.” I say to my mom.
” Oh, hello Carson, I am Robin, when did you get here?” she asks Carson.
” Ok, Robin, Hi, I got here around 9:00, I hope that is fine.” She says.
” Yes, of course it is darling, does your mother know your over here?” she asks.
” Yes, she does, she says it is ok.” Said Carson.
” Um… Mom, we were planning to go to Nicole’s, or Ruth’s house. Maybe Craig’s house, but is that fine?” I ask.
” Yes, that is fine.” Said my mom. Carson and I leave to go to Craig’s house, with Benji and Billy.

Oh my! I am so happy now, my sister finally got out of rehab, she came to Craig’s front door, asking for me, and she likes Neil. They have been in the corner making out for some while now. Life is good. I am happy now. I think she approves of Joel, so that is really good.
