Chapter Seven

She's killing me, Dave thought, watching Alex wrap her arms around Kurt's waist as they spoke with Shane. Months had now passed and she'd barely spoken to him unless it had to do with work or they were scripted lines. She was losing interest in the conversation her brother and Kurt were having, looking around the arena until her eyes passed by Dave. They were in a trance until Kurt asked her a question, taking her attention away from Dave's longing looks. But he wasn't only upset about that. She'd begun to spend more and more time John. The free time she'd usually spent with Dave now seemed to be devoted to John. If Kurt was gone, her time was spent with John and Dave's mind could only consider that they were doing things he dreaded. The only times he got her to interact with him was in the arena, forced by the story line.

Alexis stood in Vince's office in the arena, arms crossed. "No. Not happening. Find another way to go with all this."

"Alex, Dave and Paul have been feuding and Stephanie just got involved. It'll be great for you to manage Dave in turn and you and Stephanie can feud."

"I don't wrestle though Dad. We've discussed my non-wrestling feelings before."

"I'll train you Alex," Paul laughed, taking a huge chug out of his water bottle. He was in a suit, ready for the "contract signing" for his match with Dave at that month's Pay Per View.

"And kill me?"

"Paul trained me, he's not too bad," Stephanie said.

"Ha ha ha Stephanie. How'd he train you again?"

As Stephanie and Paul both turned bright pink, Vince cleared his throat, bringing Alex's attention back to him, "Please Alex? For me?"

"Oh shit, well if you're going to use the 'For me?' approach...," Alex said, plopping down on the sofa next to Paul. "I swear with you Daddy, it's not fair. I can't say no. Anyways, does Dave know I'll be managing him yet?"

"Not yet, haven't been able to catch a hold of him all day," Paul said.

"Fun, let me go do it. I need to talk to him anyways." She got up, heading towards the door. She stopped abruptly, turning to face Stephanie, Vince, and Paul. "I won't have to wear anything TOO revealing when I wrestle right?"

"Tomorrow, it'll be on your desk back home," said Stephanie in a tone Alex could only take for nervousness.

"Oh goody. See you in the ring you three. Boy do I sure love my family."

~~~~
"Damn it can you still not tie a tie Batista?"
Her voice, talking to him as if nothing was wrong, was music to his ears. He looked up from where he sat and she was smiling down on him, leaning on her left side against the door frame and holding her suit jacket with her left hand. Her shirt wasn't tucked into her skirt yet and she still hadn't buttoned most of the buttons on it. Dave loved her most that way, a little messy. "No, still can't. Help?"
"Eh, I'll have to do it or no one else will.... Well? Up." She motioned with her right hand for him to stand, throwing her jacket on the bench he sat on. When he was standing she smoothed out his jacket, taking his tie away from him and began to tie it. "I'm managing you now so we need to set up a few rules."
He raised an eyebrow, pushing his forehead against her softly, "Rules? What kind of rules?"
"Stop Dave! That's exactly what I'm talking about. You can't do that to me."
"Alex."
"We're... we're not together. Nothing... nothing is going on here okay? I can't...."
"You love me."
"I'm not supposed to love you Dave. That's my point." She'd finished tying his tie, pressing her hands flat against his chest and looking up at him. "We can't do it. It's wrong for us to even pretend like this is something we SHOULD do. Let's just go back to normal okay? You and Paul can keep treating me like a two year old who can't take care of herself and I'll keep... well you know.
"This is stupid. Alex, at least stop with this Kurt thing."
"What Kurt thing?"
"Or John."
"Wait wait. First of all, Kurt is not just some THING that I'm doing, Dave. I do actually care about him and it's not some game."
"You might care about him Alex but not enough to actually go through with all this."
"Secondly... John is just my friend. There's... nothing there."
"Then why are you pausing when you say it." He asked crossing his arms. She always felt small next to him when he did that and he knew it was one of the few ways he could get her to tell him the truth.
She sighed, sitting on the bench and looking up at him, "Stop doing that cheater...."
"But it works so well usually," he laughed, cupping her cheek. "Dwayne bugging you much I heard."
"Oh, Paul told you did he? Yeah we had a itty bitty fight on the phone the other day."
~~~~

"Damn it with your shit Dwayne. I swear I regret ever fucking--"

"Me? But then we wouldn't have that little bundle of joy."

"Okay stop with that. I don't even know what to do about you. Don't you have a movie you should be filming or something? This isn't just as easy as me going to where you are and bringing Amy so you can see her. Remember how nice and mainstream you are now? And married? Yeah, lemmie bring Aims so photogs can see a MARRIED Rock visited by a SINGLE WWE star and her daughter, whose father remains a mystery. With your wife and daughter no where is view. Good idea buddy."

"I miss you two."

"You didn't for a while...."

Dwayne sighed, trying his best not to yell in his trailer. "Alex seriously, you make shit so difficult. No photogs are here, no insiders. Just come see me."

"Nope."

"You stubborn mule," he said before hanging up.

~~~~
"But that's not what's important now. I'm managing you. Dad wants it all played for us to be more than that which is why I have rules for this to work. Stephanie and Paul are married, they can be as gross as they want to. You're not married to me, therefore, keep that in mind will you?"
Suddenly there was a small knock on the door, one of the a female road agent nervously looked into the room. "Oh. Sorry but you two are supposed to be in gorilla by now." Alex had pulled away from Dave, grabbing her jacket and slipping it on quickly. She tucked in her shirt, giving herself a look over in the mirror as Dave nodded silently to the crew member, turning his attention back to Alex. "I look fine right? Stephanie's gonna try to rough me up anyways I'll bet but--"
"Alex...," he began to say but the look on her face said it all. "You look perfect."
She smiled a little, grabbing his hand and pulling him behind her. Her fingers wrapped up in his were exactly what he'd been dying for. Before reaching gorilla however she let go, walking to John and jumping his back. "Gross! I forgot you just went out there. Ick." She'd never imagined how close she and John would become but he was slowly becoming the best parts of her day. He was getting over with fans pretty well also, leading to his new white-rapper gimmick.
He turned around, tired but happy to see her, placing his hands on her waist softly. "Hello to you too. Going out there?"
She laughed, playing with the giant chain around his neck she considered to be the funniest part of his attire, "Yes and apparently soon I'll be wrestling."
"Shit, you too? Vince finally caught you huh?," he said with a laugh.
She made a face, placing her hands on his and giving them a tight squeeze, "Let's not talk about it. Pisses me the fuck off. I can't say no to--"
"Your boss?," Vince said laughing, drinking some water before heading out to the arena to his music with his usual stick up the ass walk along with Sable. Rena Mero was with the WWE for a storyline in which she and Vince were having a very public affair that both she and Stephanie were supposed to disapprove of.
"Yeah, him. Anyways, lemmie get ready." She blew him an air kiss as she winked to avoid kissing his sweaty cheek and walked to where Dave stood, fuming, his back turned to them. She touched his arm lightly, "Stop it you. You have exactly what you want, a chance to play with me in front of everyone. Heck, John can't do that now can he? No getting all kissy with me or I'm biting and not in a sexy way I swear it Dave." He turned to face her, no longer jealous. This is going to be fun, he though, kissing her forehead before heading out there without a word, leaving her blushing and too afraid to face everyone around them. She heard a small laugh and she turned around to find one of the new Divas, Maria, laughing. Of all the Divas hired in the past year, she happened to be one of the ones she liked the most, having the most in common with her was one of the reasons she was slowly becoming one of Alex's good friends. "You saw him do that?"
"No?," she asked laughing, walking over, bumping Alex's hip with hers.
"Exactly. Well, there goes my music. Do me a favor, take my glasses, forgot to put one contacts, I'll have to be blind for this one."
"I'll leave them in your office, go make the boys swoon."
~~~~

All Alex could hear cheering as Batista announced to HHH, Stephanie and Vince that he didn't plan on entering the ring alone and her music hit. She walked into the arena slowly, one hand on a hip, the other with a mic in her hand. She let the cheering wash over her, realizing that she was beginning to enjoy it more and more with each show. Stephanie and HHH looked horrified to see her by Batista's side and even more as she spoke, "My my my...," she said in an overly sweet tone, "good to see my sister and brother-in-law look so happy to see me. Please you two, hold those loving feelings in. I suppose you want an explanation about just why I am out here. Well, the way I saw it, Hunter... you just have an unfair advantage with my... darling sister by your side. So, I thought, that the only way this could be a fair fight, is if I was in Batista's."

The crowd cheered louder now, as Stephanie and Hunter began to fume at the ears. "Alex! What the hell are you doing?!," screamed Stephanie, walking towards the ropes, "Family comes first!"

Everyone in arena was either booing or laughing along with Alex and Batista. "Family comes first?!," Alex laughed, "Since when has that ever been a McMahon strength? No no, you want to know what comes first? What FINALLY comes first?... Me. See Stephie, my sweet beautiful sister,
I am SICK and TIRED of listening to you. Of dealing with your whining and crying. Your... era... it's over. You are never going to walk all over me again."

"Wait, you can't be that scared of me Dave," Paul said with a cocky laugh, "that you had to bring the littlest McMahon to back you up. Alex can't help you. No one can help you win against me. Do you two remember who I am? I'm The Game."

As everyone roared, Vince raised a hand, walking to the ropes, "Alex, you and Batista get your asses in this ring right now! I don't have time for this sibling rivalry. I have other things I'd rather be doing if you catch my drift." Sable looked quite proud as both Stephanie and Alex made pained faces. Alex and Batista eventually made it to the ring, standing face to face with Stephanie and HHH. "You know, you two fighting all the damn time, since you two were little brats. Well I'm going to settle this once and for all. Now I just had a feeling you two were going to pull something like this. So, I had a little something drawn up." Out of his suit jacket, he pulled a folded up contract he laid out on the table. "I know all about your rants Alex, walking around the back, telling everyone how much better you are than Stephanie. That you can run the show better than Stephanie. Well here's your chance." As everyone got louder with excitement Alex began to shake her head, genuinely confused. "If you and Stephanie sign this you will be seeing each other in the ring at this month's Pay Per View. Not only that, the one who wins, will become Overseeing Manager of Smackdown! and Raw."

Alex's eyes grew wide, a huge grin spread on her face as she nodded. Stephanie was reacting in the same manner. Quickly Stephanie grabbed the pen on the table and signed. Once she was done, Alex snatched the pen, quickly signing as well. "Okay now, you two brutes sign yours," Vince said pointing at the second contract. Both Batista and HHH signed their contracts. When that was done, Vince laughed. "There we go. So this month, at Pay Per View, we'll be having a good 'ol inter-gender tag team match between Batista and Alexis McMahon versus HHH and Stephanie McMahon." All four of them had eyes as wide as saucers as Stephanie and HHH grabbed the contract Alex and Stephanie had signed and Batista and Alex reached for the other. Once the realization hit that they had all agreed to the match by signing the papers. Vince quickly snatched them from their hands. "There's no backing out. The team that gets the first pinfall wins the belt and the job." Alex, Batista, HHH, and Stephanie all began yelling back and forth until suddenly Alex pushed Stephanie who stumbled backwards until she regained her footing, an evil glare in her eyes.

In one split second, Alex regretted giving Maria her glasses, having a close call with Stephanie's hand heading towards her cheek. Stephanie knew it also, with a small smile creeping over her sister's face. She lunged for Stephanie, suddenly feeling Batista pass her towards HHH. She could see out of the corner of her eye Vince scrambling to leave the battle in the ring. Alex had to admit to herself it was fun to roll around, pulling on Stephanie's hair. She sat on her sister, pulling off her suit jacket since it was becoming a bit uncomfortable and then proceeding to slap Stephanie around.

~~~~
"Damn it Alex! You're so violent," she laughed as she and Dave finally returned to gorilla, having stayed behind as Paul and Stephanie retreated from the ring. Alex smiled, wrapping her arms around her sister and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Don't be such a cry baby silly girl. I love you. Just think of it as pay back for all the times you beat up on me growing up! Plus, Dad wouldn't you be pissed if this turned into a Batman match?" Vince laughed and nodded. "See Steph? Anyways, you're one to talk. When Amy asks why I'm covered in bruises I'll let her know her favorite aunt ever beat her mommy up. Excuse me please, I'm getting out of this suit. I plan on leaving and eating and going to bed." She left everyone behind without another word and when she got to her office she groaned, throwing the jacket on the sofa and falling on it with a groan. She curled into a small ball, resting for a second, ignoring the sound of the door opening and closing. She felt arms pick her up, pulling her close and then the person sat down on the sofa, brushing the hair from her face.
"Need a little help?," he asked, brushing hair off of her face.
"No... thanks anyways you booger, " she said, reaching up and patting John's cheek softly. "I feel like shit. I'm not as strong as Stephanie and the whole being sisters thing makes her act less and hurt more."
"You looked damn good out there though. Maria kept jumping up and down yelling 'That's my girl.'"
"I love that chick."
"Well get dressed, I'll help you to your hotel if you want."
Alex sighed, "He left didn't he?"
"He told me to tell you he was tired and was heading to the hotel to sleep, he'd call in the morning." Alex had already told John that Kurt's constant disappearances bugged the hell out of her. She groaned, attempting to get up but her leg hurt badly and so moving wasn't an option. She'd felt something act funny the second she and Stephanie had gone at it but played it off until she was alone. John noticed she'd made a face when she attempted to move her leg. "Maybe shower at the hotel Alex, these showers are a little uncomfortable and you'll need more room. I'll drive your car, I took a taxi. Where's your bag?"
"Over in the corner. Carry me out will you? And don't let anyone see you carrying me out of here or they'll tell the big cheese and he'll go all Daddy on me and it's no fun."
"Got it, I'll be James Bond, you be my Bond Girl. We sneak out all spy like and the such. Be my Bond Girl?"
"Only yours John. Take me home."
~~~~

John had eventually managed to exit the arena with Alex cradled in his arms, a duffle bag and another bag swung over his shoulder. He'd driven her car to the hotel and then repeated the process in the hotel. Finally, he sat her on her bed, dropping her bag on the floor. "You sure you don't need me?"

"I can manage from here, I promise."

"You have my room number and all...," he said hesitating.

"John stop acting so cute, I might have to kiss you."

"I wouldn't complain," he said, kneeling in front of her and kissing her cheek. "I expect you to eat breakfast with me tomorrow morning. It's an order. Then, we're flying to Stanford and I'm training you all week until Monday."

"Excuse me? Why do YOU need to train me?"

"Well I know you're probably training with Paul or Dave or something but I want to help you out a little. Plus I kinda don't want to go to Tampa...."

"By the way, how's that going?"

"Same as usual. It's pretty much done, we're in the 'I hate you so here's the phone call to remind you of that' stage."

Alex laughed, "That's my favorite stage."

"Mind if I stay with you?" He asked, taking a chance.

"No way. Amy will be happy. Plus Kurt's going to be out of town for something in LA we were sending him to do. I think it's one of the talk shows and then he has some MTV thing. It was just going to be me and the buggie. You are very welcome to join us on our magical adventures."

"That's what I like to hear."

Eventually, after a small fight about Alex being capable of walking around and supporting herself, John had left and she had showered, pulling on a tank top and shorts. The pain in her thigh was slowly getting smaller, but it still hurt. As she began to sit down on her bed, after fluffing some pillows, Alex heard her cellphone begin to ring. She could barely reach it from where she sat on the bed but after a small struggle she reached it. When she picked up and said "Hello" she heard the voice she loved so dearly. "Mommy!"

"My buggie. Hey honey, you should be in bed by now."

"I can't sleep."

"Baby it's late. Why are you on grandma's cellphone? Did you steal it again?" Amy couldn't remember how to dial her number but she knew if she got her grandmother's cellphone from where she always left it she could call Alex instantly.

"Yes ma'am."

"Well get in bed then and lie down and we can talk for a little but you need to stop stealing Grandma's cell okay? Ask first or Momma will be mad."

"Sorry." She could hear Amy put down the phone and struggle to get herself into Alex's old bed. Finally, she could Amy pick the phone back up. "Mommy you're coming home soon right?"

"Yes me dearest child, tomorrow. I'm bringing you a friend too."

"Dave?"

"No... not Dave sweetie."

"Oh," Amy replied, obviously disappointed. Her tone when she asked, "Kurt?," wasn't any better.

"No baby. Kurt isn't going to be there either. John is coming with me and he's staying with us. Remember him?" Luckily she did as she could suddenly sense Amy's excitement in her tiny voice.

"John?! With us?" She knew Amy was probably confused. Dave had never slept over, neither had Kurt, and she was used to Paul or Shane sleeping over with Stephanie or Marisa (although there had been the one time Stephanie and Paul had a argument that he found sanctuary in Alex's home) but John sleeping over had caused amazement in Amy she was sure. "Forever?"

"Well no, for the week. But is that okay? If you don't want him to come I can tell him."

Amy in all her innocence was more than happy to have someone new around that she liked and gave out an excited, "No I want him to!"

"Okay but then you need to go to sleep okay? We'll be there tomorrow. Please?"

"I'm sleepy now."

"Good. I love you hunny. I'll be there soon okay? Then it's just you and me... and John."

"I love you Mom."

She could hear Amy press a couple buttons until she had gotten the right one. Alex laughed a little, closing the cellphone and resting back onto the pillows. She wasn't tired at all but the idea of reading a book or turning on the TV in the bedroom didn't interest her. She lay there silently for a while until she heard the soft knocks on the door. "Who is it?," she asked, trying her best to make herself look as normal as possible in case it was Paul or Stephanie who would be pains to convince she was fine.

"Alex I don't care if you're not decent. I'm coming in if the door is unlocked." Dave's voice came through the door before opening it, she hadn't bothered to lock the door when John had left. He was wearing jeans and a black t-shirt, obviously having stopped to take a shower before heading to her hotel room since she could smell the lingering scent of soap. "You left the arena without letting us know. Paul and Shane were a bit worried."

"You weren't?"

"Well... you know I was. Why did you leave so quickly?"

Alex sighed, letting herself fall back on the bed, groaning from the pain in her left leg. "I think I hurt myself jumping Stephie. My bad for not stretching or anything, I've learned my lesson."

"Why didn't you say anything when we got back behind the curtain?"

"Well it was my first time out there in a situation like that," she said, rubbing her thigh, "I didn't want to seem like a big cry baby. Anyways, I've felt worse it's just a pain. John carried me out of the arena and drove me here and carried me all the way up so I wouldn't put pressure on it so it's feeling better a bit." When she saw the look on his face she sighed, "Yes. John. John Cena. He carried me here and you'll just have to deal with it Dave, please, I'm in no mood."

He stopped making his strained face and quickly said, "Lie down, hungry?"

"Yeah, I was going to order."

"I'll do it," he answered, grabbing the hotel phone. She began to lie down as he ordered, only speaking up to ask for onion rings. He added that to their very large list of junk food before lying down next to her and turning on the TV. He felt her slowly cuddle to his side, throwing her left leg over his lap, which he happily rubbed softly. "So explain this whole 'Overseeing Manager' thing. I thought we already had GMs."

"Oh yeah, but I get to do both shows and be in charge apparently. Stephanie and I don't have any idea what Dad has planned for all this. His idea. I don't have a good feeling about any of this though." Alex yawned, getting comfortable again, her eyes closing slowly. "Food better get here soon, I'm super hungry."

Dave laughed a little, kissing her forehead and looking around for the remote, "Should be here... there." The knock on the door signaled room service's arrival. He gentle picked up her leg and laid it back down on the bed as he got up to get the door, "Hey man, thanks," he said as a young guy walked in pushing a food cart. He pulled his wallet out of his back pocket, handing the kid a twenty dollar bill, and closed the door behind him. He sat back down, his salad in one hand, her onion rings in another, "I hope you can tell the difference in our eating habits," he said.

Alex huffed, dunking a ring into the blue cheese, "You know I don't always eat like this you jerk. I just happen to really want onion rings." She held up a ring to his mouth, sweetly teasing him, "You know you want one! Just eat it or regret it all night." Dave couldn't help himself and took a bite, letting his fingers linger at his lips. Meanwhile, she was stealing the fork from his hands, eating some of his salad before turning her attention back to the TV. "I'm getting a tattoo," she said without reason, looking to him for a reaction.

"Excuse me?"

"Well it's not like you don't have any."

"What about Vince?"

Alex laughed, resting back on the pillows and putting the volume up on the TV, "I'm not 18. I've had a baby. I think whatever I do with my body now he can deal with. Anyways, I'm going with Matt and Jeff next week. You are quite welcome to join... oh and Maria. Yeah."

Dave laughed at her determined manner, "Well since you are insisting."

Eventually they were done eating and had gotten quite comfortable in each other's arms, watching a movie. She could feel his hands rubbing her back, his lips against her head. He was taking deep breaths of her, in case the moment should be a dream. After months of arguing he'd gotten back in her good graces and he didn't plan on leaving. Sleepily, she rubbed his cheek, looking into his equally tired eyes. He smiled, pressing his face to hers, watching her eyes close slowly. Then, without warning, she felt his lips press to hers. She tried to bring herself to fight him her hands pressing against his chest, but with each kiss her pushing subsided and instead her hand cupped his face. Working with the sudden momentum and energy, he rolled her onto her back, resting himself between her legs, continuing the kissing. They were alone this time, he began to realize, and the idea was more than enough to cause him to pick up the pace with his kisses. Alex felt flooded. One second she'd been ready to sleep, the next she felt his body pressing down on hers. She couldn't help herself, grabbing onto his back under his shirt, causing it to rise slightly. With his body rubbing against hers, her tank top was rising as well, causing his stomach to press against hers without any boundaries. With every part of her becoming more and more sensitive, she felt the hardening inside his jeans against her leg, causing her to groan slightly. That was all he was waiting for, going to pull off her tank top.

The knock on the door brought them back down to earth. Both of them stopped kissing instantly. He watched her open her mouth to respond and he attempted to cover her mouth with his hand, to keep her attention on him for a few moments longer but he was too late, "Who is it?"

"Paul."

Dave instantly stood up, although he was reluctant to do it. She sat up, motioning for Dave to get the door silently. He couldn't read the look in her eyes in those moment but he walked to the door, taking a deep breath before opening it. "Oh," Paul said, surprised to see him there. Last thing he knew, the two hadn't been on best terms since Amy's birthday. He could tell he'd interrupted something, from the way the two of them were acting, so he decided to make it fast, "Alex when do you leave tomorrow? Stephanie wants to know."

"I don't know, we were just going to go and get a flight after breakfast."

"We?," Dave asked crossing his arms.

Instantly, she regretted saying anything at all and she sighed, pulling a pillow onto her lap, "I... John is coming with me. He's staying with Amy and I for the week until Monday."

"Why?"

Dave's tone began to worry Alex, since Paul was also now crossing his arms across his chest. "I invited him to. I mean apparently everyone and their mother is going to train me and so he decided to join in on the fun. Anyways there is no reason for him to stay in a hotel when he can stay with Amy and I...."

"Maybe I'll come too then...," Dave began but Alex quickly shook her head.

"You should go home and see your girls. Anyways I'll have plenty of people around to yell at me for not taking bumps correctly."

"I... okay then, see you downstairs in the morning? Nite Dave."

"Good night Paul."

When Paul had left the look on Dave's face said it all. "John's staying with you? Does Kurt know?"

His sudden mention of Kurt upset her for the simple fact that just a few minutes ago, Kurt wasn't such a big worry. "No, he doesn't need to and anyways I'm going to bed. Need to wake up and pack...."

"Fine. Good night." He waited for her to fight him, to ask him to stay, to say anything. But her eyes told him her good mood had completely diminished and if he pushed, she'd only push him farther away. He didn't say another word, leaving her room with a slam of her door.

Alex covered her face with the pillow, yelling into it. She could smell him all over the bed, causing her to consider sleeping on the sofa. She decided against it finally, pulling herself into the covers and turning off the lamp on the night stand. "I could kill him," she said to herself, before passing out.
