Ch 8
My stay with Gerard's friends had been short lived. It didn't take long for my stomach to grumble. Gerard just looked at me and rolled his eyes. "We don't have any food here you could eat."
I winced slightly at the thought of his idea of food. However, the other boys just laughed and patted me on the shoulder, saying that it was alright and that I could come back another time. I thanked them as Gerard ushered me out of the door. "I think some Taco Bell drivethru is in order." Gerard stated as he opened my door for me. As Gerard walked around and got in on the driver's side, I looked up at the house one last time. All of the blood drained from my face as I saw Mikey looking at me from one of the second story windows, the look on his face pure murder. Suddenly Gerard asked me what was wrong. I looked over at him and he was staring at where I had been looking, I looked back but Mikey was gone.
"Nothing. I'm just hungry." I said, wrapping my arms around my stomach and sinking down into the seat.
School picked up it's regular routine, with two exceptions. One, I now found myself standing with the boys underneath the shade of a tree before Gerard took me to lunch, and two, Mikey stopped coming. I didn't dare ask where he was.
Mary and Sam had convinced themselves that I was just ditching them to hang with my boyfriend, which more or less was true. I felt bad, but one look at Gerard changed that all. The more time I spent with him, the more time I wanted to spend with him, It was a vicious cycle that slowly started to surface in my new life. I wanted to know everything about him, but it was difficult, seeing as he chose to keep much about him a mystery. No, he was much more interested in interrogating me.
"What's your middle name?" he asked me one day while we sat together on top of a picnic table outside of an ice cream shop.
"Gabriel." I said, licking some melted chocolate ice cream off my hand.
"That's a boy's name." he laughed, shrugging off his jacket and revealing nicely shaped pale biceps.
"I take no critisism from someone with a name like Gerard." I stated matter-of-factly. He laughed and I looked at him. His eyes were sparkling. To this day I still believe that his laugh was music that God himself sent to this earth. I crawled over and curled up in his lap, letting his skin cool me from the heat.
"You have no idea what it feels like to hold you. You're so warm."
I was suprised that he said this. I never considered that he was as unused to holding someone warm as I was to being held by someone cold. I looked up at him to smile, but he seemed too lost in thought to notice.
It was later that night that everything changed. I had been out to eat with my parents that evening and got home just as the sky turned from purple to black. They told me goodnight in the hallway and I was off into my bedroom. I walked in and closed the door behind me, throwing my purse on my vanity and flicking on the light switch.
I swore violently as I saw him sitting on my bed. My hand flew to my chest where I could feel my heart racing. This could not be good. I tried to steady my voice. "Hello." I tried.
He didn't say anything at first. Instead he just stared at me, giving me a once over. I decided to try again. "What are you doing here? Is Gerard okay?"
"He's fine." It was the first words he had spoken to me. Instantly I relaxed, if just by a fraction. A psychotic vampire may be sitting on my bed, but Gerard was okay. Wait, what? Since when did my mind work like that? I pushed the thoughts from my mind as Mikey hopped off my bed. He advanced towards me and I automatically stepped back until my back was pressed against the door.
"I'll scream." I whispered, shrinking down and away from him as he stood in front of me.
He laughed, but his laughter was nothing like Gerard's. "I just wanted to see what my brother saw in you." I let out a dry sob as he reached out and touched my cheek, smiling as his hand slipped down my neck and over my breast. I knew it was no use, even as I tried to push his hand away, he grabbed my wrist in a bone breaking grip. He let out a little hiss and showed me his fangs, his face drawing closer to mine. I wanted to close my eyes and block out whatever was about to happen, but I couldn't look away from his pale green orbs. Just as our noses were about to touch he froze. He lifted his head and looked around like he had heard something. I held my breath.
He growled and glanced back at me before walking across my room swiftly and leaping out of my window. I waited to see if he would come back. After about 15 minutes I noticed my hands were cramping up from the way I had been clenching them. I sunk to the floor and began to sob.
