North Carolina and DC were uneventful, typical stuff. Waking up, sound check, show, after party, and then sleep. We arrived in Pittsburg, PA a few days after the incident in FL. My face finally stopped hurting, I got a phone call the day prior from a lawyer in FL, the girl got 5 years for assault, battery, and endangering the welfare of a child. I decided to stay in bed this city. I didn’t know anyone here and I wasn’t really interested in socializing. I got a phone call during my nap from my mom.
“When are you guys arriving in New York?” she asked.
“Tomorrow, why?”
“I wanted to see you guys, your father wants to see you also.”
“Oh alright, we should be in town in the morning.”
We left the city around 1am; I was long asleep by then. I slept most of the day on the bus. We got into NY around 8am. I notice only because I heard the beeps of cars going to the Lincoln Tunnel, and then the noise of Manhattan. We had a day off in NY before the show at the IZOD center in NJ. We checked into a hotel in Manhattan, where I took a long, hot shower. It felt good to be back home in NY, yet it felt tense and unwelcoming. Richard and I took the subway to Queens to pick up my things. I unlocked the door to find a note taped to the door.
'Beck there is an envelope in my aunt's room. It contains divorce papers, please sign them and take your things'
"Well shit this is too easy. He obviously found out. I am glad he’s not here.
"Hey this is the 2nd to last show; you can come back to Germany with me." He said randomly.
I grabbed all the suitcases and a few bags for my clothes. I grabbed some boxes and tape for my other various things.
"I’ll ship your things to my house in Germany, sign those papers and let’s go."
"Yea this will get a bit awkward if someone comes home" I responded.
Just as I finished signing the papers my mother-in-law came into the house. Speaking to me in Spanish she said;
"Wow I can't believe you did this to my son. I am glad you are moving out, good riddance."
I was starting to get angry. I wrote a note.
'Please send me copies'
And with that I left. Richard hailed a cab and we took all my belongings to the hotel. I climbed my fat pregnant ass into bed and cried into my pillow. I really didn't want this, yet I did. So confused I was.
"Hey now, no crying, I hate to see you cry"
I dried my eyes and called my mom.
"Hey when you guys coming over?" she asked
"We can come out now. It'll take about an hour."
"Ok, you guys hungry? I'll cook something."
I paused the conversation and I asked Richard.
"Hey are you hungry? My mom will cook if you want something."
I was hungry, heck I was always hungry, even before I was pregnant. Now I eat more naturally now that I was eating for two. Richard nodded and I responded yes to mom.
"I'll call your father and tell him you are coming. He will most likely bring Anne-Marie with him. He’s been anxious to see you and meet Richard."
I hung up the phone and gathered my wallet and a few things and we headed to Penn Station. We got off at Floral Park and my mom was waiting for us to drive us because we couldn't walk 6 long blocks to her place, and she didn't want us paying out the ass for a cab.
"Wow Beck, how far along are you?"
"Only 6 months." I said
"Looks like the huge baby gene passed on. That kid will be huge."
My dad arrived a few minutes after we arrived at moms. We all sat down on the couch, Richard greeted my dad with a firm handshake.
"Beck, remember, I want to be called pop-pop and not grandpa." he said with a chuckle.
"Don't worry about that dad. Our little girl will be bilingual. We're going to raise her in Germany. She will have dual citizenship with the US since her mother is American."
"I am happy for you. I'm glad you are giving me grandkids with him and not Aaron. I never liked him" My mom said.
Mom pulled me aside and said to me
"Wow you really snagged a good one. He’s really hot. How old is he?" she said with a chuckle
"He's 44."
"Really? Wow he looks good. Closer to my age though baby."
"I know, but hey he's a rock star."
“You know that I am happy if you are. Are you happy?”
“Ma, I’ve liked this guy for years, he just didn’t know who I was. When I met him finally he really hit it off. I am having his baby, mind you it wasn’t exactly planned but yes I am very happy. ”
We went back into the living room, dad and Richard were talking. Richard smiled at me, he seemed to like my dad despite the over protectiveness he always had for me.
“I think it’s time to eat?”
I nodded and my mom, Anne-Marie and I walked into the kitchen to help with the food. Mom made lasagna with spinach, always my favorite. The three of us walked out of the kitchen, plates in hand.
“That looks amazing.” Richard said.
“Thank you” mom said.
We all were silent when we ate. I was glad to have this family get together. Just as we all finished eating my brothers came in.
“Hey Beck.” They both said as they gave me a hug.
“Hey, guys this is Richard.”
“You look familiar. Are you in a band?” Cory said.
“I am.”
“Which one?”
“Rammstein.”
“Oh now that’s where I know you from. My sisters’ favorite band.” He said with a chuckle.
We threw our dishes in the sink and I lie down on the couch and put my feet on Richard’s lap. They were sore. I let out a loud profanity when I felt her kick my back.
“Feisty she is.” I said
“Like her mother.”
I looked at the clock, it was 5pm already.
“Crap, it’s that late already? We need to get going.”
I got my things together, my mom drove us to the train and we took the train back into Manhattan. We went back to the hotel; I wanted some coffee, so we decided to go to star bucks right near the hotel. Inside star bucks I recognized someone. It was Richards ex, Caron. He approached her as I ordered my decaf coffee. They were chatting it up for a while. I went up to Richard and throw my arms around him.
“Ah so this is her. She’s short.”
“Well thanks a bunch. I know that already.”
“So, he knocked you up. I assume you know his track record, love them and leave them. I really hope you enjoy your time with him, it won’t last long, and he’s always had a wandering eye.”
She was exactly like I thought she would be, bitter, angry, stuck up and cruel. I picked up my coffee and we headed back to the hotel. I was really drained. This tour was taking a toll on me. I decided to change into my PJs and call it a night.
