Out of the Light, Into the Blackness

The roadie died. I just know it. Adam is a fucking murderer!!! Please let me wake up God. PLEASE!

My mind screamed for release. I couldn't just sit there and wait to hear something. I didn't know why I was so concerned but I was. I couldn't stop myself. I had to know something. Before any of the guys could say anything or try to grab me, I jumped up and ran outside. I heard Gerard and Mikey swear aloud as I ran out. I went to the back of the bus and looked around. Three officers with police dogs were combing the grounds that I could see. I was sure there were more of them spread out over the whole venue. I didn't hear any music anywhere. I figured they must have shut down the whole place. I couldn't believe Adam could be so stupid and crazy as to cause all this devastation. I felt so much guilt at that moment because I realized that I was the whole reason for it all. If only I had walked into Adam's bus the night before just a few minutes later, I may have not caught him cheating and maybe never would have known. Then we'd still be together and okay and no one would be hurt and pissed off at anyone. But something in the back of my mind told me I was wrong. Adam was to blame for being such a heartless fool and cheating on me in the first place. It was all his fault, not mine. I heard someone running towards me and right before they rounded the corner I realized it was probably Gerard. I didn't want him to find me just yet. I didn’t really know why, but I ran and hid in front of the bus beside his. I ducked down and watched from underneath the bus as Gerard's feet appeared and stopped, turning around and looking for me in every direction.

"Jordyn! Where are you?" I stopped breathing. I saw another pair of feet appear next to Gerard.

"Did you see which way she went?" I heard Mikey say.

"No. I don't know what came over her. Fuck!" Gerard was upset. I cared, but I didn't. This whole thing was my battle and I had to fight it alone. I snuck over in front of the next bus and around to a chain link fence next to it. I watched two officers with dogs on the other side scan over the field they were in. Suddenly, the dogs went crazy, barking and growling and trying to break free of their restraints. The officers let them go and I saw a person stand up and start running from them. The dogs closed in fast and took them down, growling and holding fast to their arm and leg. The person screamed out in pain. The officers approached with their guns drawn and called the dogs off. They backed away as they were told and sat down, panting and wagging their tails excitedly. The officers shined their flashlights down on the person and screamed at them.

"Get on your knees and lace your fingers behind your head!" The person rolled over once and moaned. They tried to push up off the ground but fell back down.

"Get up NOW!" One of the officers screamed, stepping closer and pointing their gun at the person's head. I sat in frozen fear, not believing what was happening before me. The person managed to get to their knees slowly and lift their arms up over their head. When the officer's light hit their face, I thought I was going to pass out. It was Adam. He was so dirty; his hair was tangled with grass and leaves and he had a wild look in his eyes. His shirt was ripped and he was crying and shaking. Pity skimmed through my mind briefly, but the fear for him in my heart overpowered it until it retreated. I sat on my knees amongst the overgrown grass and brush at the base of the fence and cried as they handcuffed Adam and started to bring him back into the grounds. He tore free of their grasp though, and kicked one of the cops in the knee, sending him rolling in agony on the ground. The other officer drew his gun again and trained it on Adam, who was desperately running out into the blackness of the field. A piercing bang echoed in the night, and to the horror of my eyes, I saw Adam fall to the ground. I shouted and stood up, gripping the fence hard.

"NO! Adam!!" I screamed and cried and cursed the officer. I didn't want him to die. I wanted a lot of shit to happen to him for what he did to me, but not that. I collapsed to the ground and buried my head with my arms and just screamed until everything went black.
