‘So when exactly did you plan on telling me about Rei living with you?’ Yoshiki asked Gackt that evening.
The two of them had stayed behind a little after a recording session, the last recording session for the long-awaited S.K.I.N album.
Miyavi left with Sugizo about three hours ago, whilst Tori just offered to drive Rei back to Gackt’s, as Gackt insisted on staying for another couple of hours with Yoshiki to go through what they have recorded.
‘And when do you plan on telling all of us what Tori’s actual business for being here is.’ Gackt asked back.
‘You know I bet you they’re talking about us.’ Tori chuckled, pulling on the handbrake for the 10th time since they started the drive – it was a peak time of traffic, and good thing she drove a manual, as Tokyo traffic would be bad for automatic cars.
‘Probably. "Gackt, since when has she lived with you?" and "Yoshiki, why is that woman still hanging around?" like that?’ Rei imitated the two men.
‘Yeah.’ Tori laughed at the faces the other girl made for each man. ‘Hey, can I ask you something?’
‘Hm?’
Tori’s hands left the steering wheel to rest on her lap, before they began to fidget on the material of her skirt.
‘What is it?’ Rei sensed the trouble in her friend.
‘Rei… I hate the idea of me and Yoshiki.’ Tori sighed.
Rei felt stupid, as she didn’t understand any bit of that sentence. ‘Was that supposed to make any sense?’
‘No… well… yes… I don’t know…’ Tori let the car move forward a little as the traffic moved a metre forward. ‘Man I hate traffic.’
‘Tori… it’s only been two weeks with you and Yoshiki. How do you know that you don’t like the idea of it?’
‘No, that’s not what I meant… not really… I mean I like him a lot, I do. But sometimes I can’t help but think I sometimes with he wasn’t who he is, you know…’
‘So… you’re… unhappy…?’
‘No, I am.’ Tori smiled as Rei mentioned the word ‘unhappy’. Unhappy was something she hadn’t been since that day at Yoshiki’s house. ‘Just… I’ve always told myself never to date anyone like him.’
‘Well… it’s in fate’s nature to contradict a lot of things, especially things you want or don’t want.’ Rei said. ‘Oh geez. That made sense in my head, it probably didn’t to you.’ She giggled.
‘Nope.’ Tori smiled. Rei had something in her that made her smile. Sometimes Tori could swear they were sisters. Rei understood Tori a lot more than she lets on. ‘It didn’t make sense, the sentence. But I think I know what you mean.’ Tori chuckled.
‘Sis, it’s nothing until they make it official anyway…’ Rei sighed.
Tori’s eyes widened as she almost hit the accelerator. ‘What? So you’re saying, you LIVE with Gackt but really, you’re nothing until it’s official??’
‘No, that’s not what I mean… I mean. It’s harder to change our minds if we’re more open in the public. Once its official it just makes everything hard. But that also means we’re officially committed.’ Rei tried to explain.
‘You know this how?’ Tori asked, relieved as the car in front of them moved forward a little more than two metres.
‘I’ve… I dated. Um… I dated…’
‘Who, Rei??’ Tori laughed as she moved the car, following the car in front of them.
‘Um… it’s embarrassing.’ Rei blushed.
‘Oh it can’t be that bad.’
‘Yuu Shiroyama.’ Rei looked down at her feet.
‘What? Aoi? The GazettE Aoi?’ Tori looked at the blushing girl.
Rei only nodded.
‘I swear girl. You need your head checked out. He’s hot. I don’t know what’s wrong with you.’ Tori shook her head in amusement. ‘Wait, but I saw you guys talk fine at Gackt’s party.’
‘Yeah. We’re still friends… just… it makes me blush to think about it… it was a couple of years back, and I was only 18…’ Rei reddened a little more.
It clicked to Tori why she was embarrassed. ‘Aw sweetie…’ Tori let go of the wheel and gave her a quick hug.
‘Hands on the wheel…’ Rei brushed her off lightly.
‘Sorry.’ Tori chuckled. ‘Wait. How old ARE you?’
‘Thought you’d never ask…’ Rei chuckled.
Tori waited for an answer, but it never came. ‘Are you going to answer or was I meant to start guessing like ten minutes ago?’
‘I’m 21 this weekend.’ Rei answered.
‘What??’ Tori’s eyes grew wide.
‘What? Is that bad?’ Rei asked, slightly fearful of the expression on Tori’s face.
‘Gackt is what? 32?’ Tori’s face still displayed a bit of horror.
’34.’ Rei grew pink in the face. ‘Hey you can’t talk… you’re… 27 and Yoshiki’s over 40!’
Tori laughed. ‘You’re right. No fair if we only laugh at you for being so young over your man…’
‘Not funny.’ Rei snorted.
‘So you having a party?’ Tori asked.
‘I don’t know… I haven’t organised one. But I overheard Gacchan on the phone to Miyavi last night, when I walked into the bedroom he hung up the phone too quickly.’
‘Must be planning world domination.’ Tori smirked.
‘Maybe.’ Rei shrugged. ‘He hasn’t said anything to you?’
‘If there WAS a party, it would be Yoshiki insisting I come or you insisting I come. I don’t think Gackt likes me… I think he still thinks I’m way out of my league and he probably thinks I’m way too bossy.’ Tori smiled proudly of her bossy-persona.
‘Sugi-kun…’ Miyavi said quietly after sitting in Sugizo’s car in silence for over half an hour now. The radio was on low, as Sugizo liked softer music than Miyavi would have driving, so the compromise was Sugizo’s music but barely audible.
‘Hm?’ Sugizo acknowledged Miyavi, but kept his eyes on the road.
‘I… can I ask you something? Its kind of personal.’ Miyavi’s hands grew fidgety.
‘Shoot.’ Sugizo smiled, a little amused by Miyavi’s child-like questioning. He was sitting in the passenger seat, looking down as if he was a little boy in trouble, and plucking at his blue jeans. Miyavi was generally fidgety and full of energy, but this was more nervous then energetic.
‘Do you… ever get lonely?’ Miyavi asked not looking up.
‘Not really, well, I mean I got my daughter, and I’m hardly ever home anyway, always busy with the lot of you.’ Sugizo shrugged.
‘No… no I mean… do you ever yearn for someone to care for you… someone to share all this with? A lover?’ Miyavi lifted his head a little to look at his friend’s face, still looking ahead to the road before them.
It was a good thing they were going through an empty back-road, as Sugizo just made a rather abrupt stop, jerking the car to the side of the road, causing the both of them to jump forward off their seats a little – thank the seat belts for stopping them from hitting their heads on the window though.
‘You okay?’ Sugizo asked, taking off his own seatbelt and turning to look Miyavi in the face.
Miyavi took off his seatbelt too and nodded. ‘Sugi-kun, you don’t have to answer that, it’s okay… I… I’m really sorry for asking.’
‘No, no… it’s… it’s good that you asked.’ Sugizo managed a soft smile, as he looked Miyavi in the eye. ‘And to answer to your inquiry, yes. I do get lonely.’ He nodded. ‘It’s hard not to with Gackt and Rei lovey dovey and Yoshiki actually has those animated hearts in his eyes too. It brings it all too close to the surface.’
Miyavi let out a sigh. ‘Me too.’ Miyavi leaned in and kissed Sugizo. Not a simple peck, or a friendly gesture, but a full on the mouth kiss.
Sugizo didn’t react. He really didn’t have time to before Miyavi jerked away.
‘Gomen nasai.’ Miyavi threw his door open and rushed out of the car.
Sugizo didn’t hesitate but rushed after Miyavi. ‘Matte! Miyavi!’
Miyavi had already started walking away. Sugizo had to run to catch up to him. He grabbed Miyavi’s arm and yanked him to a stop and turned him around as soon as he was within arms range. When Sugizo looked up into Miyavi’s face there were tears running down his cheeks.
‘I’m sorry Sugizo-san. It won’t happen again. Please forget about it.’ Miyavi stated without looking at Sugizo.
Sugizo sighed and leaned up and returned Miyavi’s previous kiss. Miyavi gasped in surprise and Sugizo took the moment to explore the cavern of Miyavi’s mouth with his tongue before pulling away.
‘I’m not as lonely when I’m with you.’ Sugizo told Miyavi. ‘You’ve given me something… I can’t explain it…’
‘I don’t understand.’ Miyavi was puzzled. ‘In the car…’
‘You reacted faster then I could.’ Sugizo smiled. ‘I am an old man you know. You need to give me time to respond.’
‘You’re not that old.’ Miyavi slung an arm around Sugizo’s shoulders and they started to walk back to the car. Sugizo leaned against Miyavi a little.
‘Old enough.’ Sugizo retorted.
‘Sugi… where’s the car?’ Miyavi asked looking down the empty road.
Sugizo looked around. ‘Yoshiki is going to kill me…’
