Chapter 94

++++++++++

"I'm not the one who broke you;

I'm not the one you should fear."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelly shifted her weight from foot to foot as she stood behind the microphone, waiting for the producer to signal that the take was good.
"Yea, we got it Kelly," he smiled. "Want to start on the background vocals?"
"Sure thing," she nodded, her head turning at the sound of the door in the soundboard room opening. Carrie nodded to her through the glass window as she sat beside Jason. "Um, actually, take five?"
"Yea, go ahead," the producer replied.
Kelly slipped off the headphones, placing them onto the microphone before walking out of the sound booth. "Hey."
"Hey," Carrie gave a small smile.
"Come on."
Carrie stood up, following her out of the room, down the hall, and out the back exit. "Are you planning on killing me or something?"
Kelly rolled her eyes, waving her over.
Carrie smiled as the Texan pulled her into a tight hug, "You're still mad?"
"Yea...but I don't want to be," she replied, resting her chin on Carrie's shoulder. "I don't like being mad at you."
"I don't like when you're mad at me either."
"So how do we fix it?"
"I just won't go."
"No, Care," Kelly pulled back. "You should go."
"Why do you keep saying that, when you obviously don't want me to? That's some twisted case of jealousy you've got going on."
"Jealousy? Who said I'm jealous?"
"You're upset because I'm going on a date with someone else," Carrie pointed out.
"I'm not upset that you're going on a date, I'm upset that you agreed to go on the date...there's a difference."
"You would've done the same thing."
"No," Kelly shook her head. "That's the thing. I wouldn't have."
"Kell, you are really starting to be hard-headed about this. Just make up you're mind...do you or do you not want me to go?"
"It's not me that has to make up my mind. It's you, and the fact that you haven't cancelled it yet, really says a lot."
"Oh my God!" Carrie groaned. "Seriously?"
Kelly turned to go back inside.
"No, wait, I'm sorry," Carrie insisted, grabbing her arm, making her stay. "I'm sorry. I know that you've been going through a whole lot, and you're completely scattered right now. I'm sorry. You're right. I'll cancel the date. Look, I'm gonna call Michael right now," she pulled out her phone.
"No," Kelly stopped her. "Don't cancel the date."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want you to. I mean that."
"Kell," Carrie sighed, wrapping her arms around the Texan's neck, pressing their foreheads together. "Please don't do this."
"I'm not doing anything," Kelly replied, her eyes closed.
"Yea, you are. You're shutting down on me, and I'm not gonna allow that."
"I don't think I ever opened up in the first place."
Carrie felt her heart tear, "Sweetie, what's wrong? You've been like this ever since you went see Luke yesterday."
"Carrie please...just go on the date," Kelly pulled back, removing the country singer's arms from around her. "There's no reason for you not to."
"Yes there is...you."
"That's not a good enough reason," she shook her head. "Look, I've got to get back in there. Sorry."
Carrie bit her bottom lip hard as her eyes teared up, watching Kelly walk back into the studio without her.
