"I did my best, it wasn't much,
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch,
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you."

Kelly forced a smile as she was swarmed by the children in the game room. She felt Carrie place a careful hand on her lower back, reminding her she was there with her. "Hey y'all."
"What took you so long?" a little boy asked.
"I've just been really busy," she admitted, bending down so they were eye level.
"Well, I don't think you should be busy like that again."
Kelly smiled genuinely, "I think you're right. You wanna go play a video game?"
"Yea!" his eyes lit up as he took her hand, dragging her to the tv.
Carrie laughed as she watched the Texan get pulled away. She looked down at the feeling of something tugging on her hand. "Hey sweetie," she smiled, kneeling down to be even with the little redhead.
"Carrie?" she asked softly.
"Yea? What do you need hun?"
"I'm supposed to tell you something."
"Ok, go ahead."
"Someone wants to talk to you."
"Ok...do you know who?"
She shook her head.
"Do you know where they're at?"
She nodded as Carrie stood.
"Well, lead the way," Carrie smiled, looking over her shoulder to make sure that Kelly was doing alright.

"Carrie," Michael smiled, standing from where he sat in the cafeteria.
"Is this him?" Carrie asked, looking at the little girl.
"Yep," she smiled, letting go of her hand. "I'm gonna go play now."
"Ok," Carrie nodded before turning to Michael. "Hey."
"I wanted to call, but I guess I was too nervous," he admitted as they sat down. "So, I was hoping you'd come visit the kids soon so I could see you again. I had a really great time the other night."
"Um, yea, Michael, listen, about that--"
"Did you enjoy the meeting? A lot of people were saying how great it was that you were there to kinda give a view of both sides, you know?"
"Yea, the meeting...it was great. I'm really glad I got to go, but," she looked him in the eye to find his smile faltering. "What? What's wrong?"
"I...um, I thought you said...you said you weren't seeing anyone," he replied, the hurt evident in his voice.
"What do you mean?"
He glanced at her neck.
Carrie closed her eyes taking a deep breath, "Michael, I'm so sorry."
"So you lied?"
"No, I promise I didn't lie. I'm not seeing anyone. It's just...it's really complicated," she admitted.
"And this guy...do you like him?"
Carrie sighed, "Yea, I do...a lot."
"And I mean...do you like me?"
Carrie frowned, "I see you as a friend. You're a great guy Michael, I really mean that, and I think you could be an amazing boyfriend...but just not for me. I'm sorry if I led you to believe otherwise, but I just don't see you in that way."
"I'm gonna go," Michael nodded, standing.
"Ok," Carrie replied standing as well, watching him walk away.

"I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you.
Yes, there's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you.
I've seen the paths that your eyes wander down,
I want to come too."

"Hey you, you're ok?" Kelly asked as they walked back to Carrie's car.
"I saw Michael," she admitted as they got in.
"Oh?"
"Yea, I told him the truth: that I didn't have feelings for him, and that I actually have someone else."
"How'd he take it?"
"He seemed pretty hurt."
"I'm sorry Care," Kelly reached over, squeezing her knee gently. "I know that probably sucked."
"I feel guilty," she replied.
"For leading him on?"
"For not feeling upset that I hurt him. I mean, I'm upset that I led him on, but I feel so relieved that I told him I didn't like him. It's like this huge weight has been lifted, you know?"
Kelly smiled as the country singer took her hand and brought it to her lips, kissing it.
"I'm sorry that I hurt you."
"It's ok," Kelly replied honestly. "It's done. Time to move on."
"Yea," Carrie nodded, turning on the radio, laughing as Kelly started to sing loudly and purposefully off-key.
"Next day I chased her round the playground
Across the monkey bars, to the merry go round
And Emmylou got caught passing me a note,
Before the teacher took it, I read what she wrote.
Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend?
And if you do,
Well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand,
If you want to.
I think this is how love goes,
Check yes or no."
Kelly stopped singing as she turned to Carrie who couldn't stop giggling. "What?" she asked innocently. "It's a great song."
"You're such a dork," Carrie replied.
"You just need to learn to loosen up. It's ok to sing at the top of your lungs in your car, you know?"
"Yea, yea," she rolled her eyes.
"Dude, that's like a classic love song. How can you not want to belt it out?"
"That is not a classic love song," Carrie laughed.
"Yea, it is," Kelly countered.
"Good point," Carrie teased.
"Oh come on, it doesn't get much better than that. I mean, it's love in it's simplest form, the way it's supposed to be. Love shouldn't be about all the money and people and drama and crap that gets in the way. You either want to be with a person or you don't. It's as simple as that."
Carrie shook her head, kissing the back of her hand again, "You are something else."
"Told you it was a classic love song," she smiled, starting to sing again.
