Disclaimer: Linkin Park, and family members own themselves. I owe no one except the character of Glory. This is a work of FICTIN, meaning it is fake and never happened!
*****************************************
This is not real. This is not happening. I am not sitting here. I am not sitting in this hospital room waiting for my wife to die. I am not looking at the dejected faces of my friends and family. That isn’t my best friend Mike in that chair, looking disheveled. His eyes aren’t bloodshot from crying all night. That isn’t Joe sitting quietly looking at his hands. No. The Joe I know is happy and always smiling. He never sits quietly. That’s not Rob, Brad and Phoenix. They’re not here in this dark and desolate waiting room. I’m not here. I’m home playing with my son. I’m on the phone with my wife telling her to bring home some pizza. She laughs and pulls into our driveway five tes tes later. She doesn’t crash into that tree. She doesn’t lose control of the car while on the phone with me. I don’t hear her scream. I don’t hear the screeching of tires and the loud shatter. No. This isn’t real. It’s not happening. It’s a bad dream.
“Chester”.
I look up at the sound of my name. My eyes are blurry from tears and lack of sleep, but I recognize the voice and face of my childhood friend.
“Ches, honey we have to go say goodbye now.”
It’s Glory. The person I have knownce tce the day I walked into first grade. Why is she crying? Who are we saying goodbye to? Everything is ok. This isn’t real.
“Sweetie, the doctor wants us to say goodbye to Sam now. She’s not going to be awake much longer.”
Why is it so important to say goodbye to Sam? I’ll see her tomorrow when she wakes up.
“Chester. Snap out of it, man.”
Now the voice is Mike’s. He’s shaking me. Why is he shaking me?
I have to look up. I have to se what’s wrong with Glory and Mike. Why do they think something is wrong with Sam?
“Mr. Bennington, please come with me. You have to see your wife and say your goodbyes. I know this is extremely difficult for you, but I urge you to see her for one last time.”
A doctor. Why is there a doctor here? Because. This is real.
