If Only
Prologue
Aurora sighed as she watched a family jumping with the waves as they rolled by. She watched the happy ex-pressions on the children's faces. The family jumped a few more waves before the decided to come to shore. She watched as they gathered things. Joking and laughing together as they got their things and headed up shore to the parking lot, leaving Aurora alone to her thoughts. They had been the only ones beside her on the now empty beach. She felt the loneliness smother her.
She wished her childhood had been as happy. She had been an only child. Her parents not really wanting her, they decided not to have anymore children. They might as will not even have had her. They pretended she wasn't around half the time any way.
Then there was the issue of school. Even though her parents could care less about what she did, they never left any opportunity to tear her down about it. She never was the smartest. Always having trouble. She found out she had a learning disability and the school had put her in special classes. Her parents often called her retard and told her she would never amount anything. They told her nobody loves stupid people like her.
Lucky for her they lived in walking distance of the beach. They lived on the coast of Florida not far from Orlando. Her parents never taught her drive. Said they didn't want to waist their time teaching a retard how to drive. She ended up at the beach every day. She felt safe here. She had a little spot where she could hide and no one could see her. she would watch people and listen to the waves. When the beach was empty she would sit on the shore and let the water lap at her feet.
She was now 21. She knew she would never be smart enough to go to college. But she also knew she couldn't stand to live with her parents and listen to their hurtful words. They never threaten to throw her out, but she knew they could care less one way or another. She had been thinking lately it would be better on the streets then living in their house. It scared her, but she didn't think she could take it anymore living there.
She looked at her watch. It was five o'clock. Enough time to sneak up to her room, before her parents came home and started on her.
She got up and brushed the sand off her pants and starting walking towards home. she saw their cars in the drive way as she walked up. She trembled in fear. She unlocked the door and hoped to make it her room before they noticed her no such luck.
"Hey retard were you at the beach again" mocked her mother.
"yes mama" aurora answered.
Shouldn't you be going to work or going to college or something by now, oh yah I forget you are too stupid to do anything!! her father stated with a laugh.
Aurora felt tears slipping down her face. Turning to escape to her room. she didn't make it before her dad punched her in the mouth and tripped her.
"That will give you something to cry about" bellowed her dad.
Aurora ran into her room slamming the door and curling up in her bed. she knew she had to do something and soon. "Why me Aurora" sobbed into her pillow. If only somebody would love her she thought. And fell into a dreamless sleep.
