“Hey… Darren? Come over here.”
“Hmn?” Darren looked up from the table he was setting “What for? I’m busy.” He turned his attention back to what he had been doing.
“Just a second…”
“Nooo… I’m busy! It’s almost 7… Our family’s almost here… and I thought you were going to move the couches around?”
“Come here. I want to tell you something.” Daniel said, a hint of nervousness appearing in his deep voice.
“*rolls eyes* Can’t you tell me from there?”
“No.”
Darren rolled his eyes again, but let go of the festive colourful napkins and walked over.
“Another step closer.”
Darren sighed dramatically and stepped even closer.
Now was Daniel’s turn to roll his eyes.
“*pulling Darren close, arms wrapping around* This close.” He explained, Darren’s cheeks turned red.
*big kiss*
Darren looked up, to the ceiling and Daniel smiled goofily.
“Mistlet… *is cut with another heated kiss*… oe! Hey! A kiss! Just one!” he complained, not moving a finger to get away though.
“Kiss can be a verb… to kiss. Doesn’t exactly mean kissing just once.” He whispered in his deep hoarse voice; his hand travelled up Darren’s neck, to caress the other man’s silky strands.
“Why the mistletoe, Daniel?” Darren asked, more like demanded to know, his face wasn’t smiling.
“Cause then I can pull you underneath it all the times I want during the feast.” He said as he leaned to kiss the beautiful man in front of him.
“You can still kiss me without this, Danny…” Darren avoided Daniel’s kiss.
“Hmn… you’re right… but I can kiss you longer this way.” He raised his brow, a cat-like smile bathing his lips.
“Right… I know you… what’s going on?”
“Nothing is.” Daniel wasn’t the greatest of liars, Darren knew that the blush surfacing in Daniel’s cheeks was a sign his husband was lying.
“*poking Daniel in the ribs* I know you! What did you do…!” he smiled.
“Ouch! Cut that out! I didn’t do anything!”
“You’re not even smart enough… if you hadn’t called me up I wouldn’t have seen it.”
“Seen what??” he suddenly looked caught, a worried, guilty look appearing in his face momentarily.
“I knew it! You did something!” Daniel looked down, embarrassed “Danny… I won’t get mad, I promise…”
“Yes you will…”
“No… I won’t. What did you do?”
Daniel looked in Darren’s eyes and sighed, defeated.
“I kind’a…”
“Kind’a what, Daniel?”
“I uh… I kind’a… ate… the chocolate.”
“What chocolate?”
“The chocolate bar… you were… hmn… supposed to give me for Xmas…”
“Hmn… I figured you’d do that.”
Daniel kept his nervous look.
“That’s not all, is it?” Darren groaned.
“No.”
“*sighing* What did you do Daniel? I promise I won’t scream at you.”
“You WILL scream at me.” He frowned.
“No… I won’t.”
“Yes… you will.”
“No I… Don’t change the subject!” Darren eyed Daniel menacingly.
“I… hmn…” he looked up, Darren’s gaze followed “Hmn… I…”
“Daniel… does this have anything to do with the mistletoe… standing outside that door?” Darren’s eyes lighted warningly.
“Yes….” He breathed in “I ran over it with the car this morning.” He declared, a pained look in his face.
“YOU WHAT???”
“You said you wouldn’t scream…!” Daniel complained.
“YOU KNOW HOW HARD I WORKED TO KEEP THAT MISTLETOE ALIVE!!”
“Yeah… I’m sorry… I…”
“How bad is it??”
Daniel found the floor tiles very interesting.
“I said… HOW BAD IS IT???”
Daniel flinched.
“Bad. It’s gone.”
Darren closed his eyes, very upset.
“My poor mistletoe…”
“Darren… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to kill it…”
“It’s… it’s okay… it happens… MY MISTLETOE???” he cried in Daniel’s face.
“Look at the bright side! We now have a very useful branch of it in our living room’s ceiling!” Daniel tried to act cheerful.
“Oh my mistletoe… my poor mistletoe… all squashed and… and… oh my mistletoe…!”
“Hey…” Daniel pulled his husband against him in a tender hug, Darren accepted it “I’ve got a surprise for you…”
“It’s not time yet… How bad is it really? Can’t we save it?” Darren looked up, teary-eyed.
“Honey… it’s very dead, I checked.” Daniel rubbed his back, affectionately.
“Oh… poor poor mistletoe… it was so green and…”
“Darren… let’s go outside. I have to show you something.”
“Hmn… m’kay… did you…”
“It’s gone… the mistletoe is gone.”
“Okay. Cause I don’t wanna see it… I wanna keep the image of it healthy.” Darren followed Daniel over to the door, hand in hand.
Daniel opened the door and smiled.
“Hope you like.” Darren eyed him confused and then looked outside.
The sight he was presented rendered him speechless.

“So… what do you think? Is it gonna make it up for the late mistletoe…?”
Darren was smiling, his eyes sparkling.
“This is…”
“I know the mistletoe was important to you… “
“Shhh…” Darren covered Daniel’s lips with his fingers “I love it, Danny…”
“You do? That’s great honey…” he smiled and leaned to kiss his mate’s warm lips.
“Can you believe it? Snow at Xmas… here in Australia…?”
“Yeah…” Daniel smiled, hugging his spouse as close as he could, it was rather warm outside, but he wanted to hug Darren… he didn’t feel good for having run over his love’s garden.
“Don’t think you can walk around killing my garden and then apologise with snow… synthetic as it is.”
“Real snow would burn your flowers…” Daniel explained, looking down to his love.
“And… as thoughtful as this is… my mistletoe is still dead.”
“Part of it.”
Darren nodded, smiling.
“Wanna go stand beneath it?” Daniel chuckled.
“You go ahead… I’ll stay out here just a bit more…”
Daniel nodded, kissed the top of Darren’s head and walked back in.

Darren looked around and sighed a deep sigh, walked further and sat on the first step of the porch.
Looked around once more and nodded.
“I’m… dreaming of a white… Christmas… (without my poor… pooor mistletoe…) Just like the ones I used to know…”

Daniel smiled, turned around and began shifting the couches.
