Asylum

Earelia was giggling as Ryan tickled her, I was getting a little annoyed. The nurses shouldn't be playing with the patients like that... Or maybe I was just jealous. But it was harmless really, Earelia Luthien was a dimwit and could probably never comprehend those looks that Ryan would give her sometimes. I like to tease her about her name, her mother had been heavily into JRR Tolkien when she'd named her and Earelia was supposed to be some kind of Elvish name. She hated being teased, but who didn't really? Well, Jay didn't but Jay was Dr. Hewitt's little fuck toy so no one much cared about his opinion. Jay was a paranoid schitzophrenic nymphomaniac. A strange combination to be sure, and not one that gave a reliable opinion of another person's character.

Speaking of Jay, he was just sitting in the corner, staring out the window. I know who he's looking for, and I and other people here keep telling him they don't exist, but it doesn't matter. He still carries a bottle of holy water around with him, wears a cross pendant and has a wooden stake hidden under his pillow. Jay's deathly afraid of vampires and claims he can hear their telepathic voices in his head. He stays up most of the night trying to make sure they're not going to eat him. Which sucks for me because I'm his room mate, and the first thing he did the night I got in was check to see if I was a vampire. After he was satisfyed that I wasn't he left me alone. Unless he got lonely and Dr. Hewitt was out of town. No one that crazy should have that much skill in bed, it just seems a waste. And it's pretty bad when you're considered crazy by crazy people's standards.

Earelia (Lia for short) had just run over to Jay and was asking him to tell her about the vampires again when the doors slammed open. I groaned inwardly as I realized it was Amir. Jay tensed, then took Lia's hand and lead her out of the room. Jay was afraid of Amir and had accused him more than once of being one of the undead, but Lia was even more so. I don't know why, but I do know that a long time ago before I was committed Lia was actually a nursing student doing rotation here, then something happened to her and she was committed for bipolar disorder and some kind of hallucinations. Amir was involved somehow but no one knows how except Lia's doctors. For a while I was worried that Dr. Hewitt or Dr. Cox were nailing her because she's afraid of nearly anything male, but Hewitt has Jay and a little birdy told me that Dr. Cox had regular visits with Dr. Lomo in the staff lounge, and the door was usually locked during said visits. Now there was a mystery, why Mikey the Bug and Sarah the Sadist would be doing eachother. To each his own I guess. We call Dr. Lomo Sarah the Sadist because she's the deep therapy doctor, she makes people remember things they don't want to so she can try and unnravel their psychosis and she just LOVES her job. Dr. Cox is Mikey the Bug because he bugs the shit out of everyone.

Amir situated himself where Jay had sat previously and Ryan skirtted away from him. Amir made even the tough as nails nurses like Ryan nervous. He was quiet, had an intense gaze and was known for lashing out occasionally. I'd heard he'd slit someone's throat on another ward then went to the mirror to see if he'd gotten any blood in his two toned hair because he'd been thinking of dying it red. But then again there was a rumor that had gone around that said I'd blown Dr. Cox infront of several patients just because I could. And everyone knows that Paige Haley is a pathological liar, so no one listens to him. I hated that that was my diagnosis, because I'm not a pathological liar, I just lie to people I don't like and they happen to be numerous in this place. Dr. Hewitt was a skeeze, but Dr. Cox was pretty nice so I never lied to him. Suddenly I was drawn out of my thoughts by Amir saying, "Hey Paige, where's Jay?"

"He took Lia to his room so they could have time to fuck." I replied nonchalantly. Amir would know I was lying but I didn't care, I didn't like Amir. "Aw, so Lia came to visit her little boyfriend again today? How sweet..." Amir said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. This was exactly why I hated Amir, he was a sociopath and his favorite activity was to torture the other patients. "They're not dating you moron, you know that and I know that." I said angrily. Amir just rolled his eyes at me and I lit a cigarette to see if it would make him go away. Amir didn't like smokers, they really bugged him for some reason. But all he did was roll his eyes at me and say, "You're smoking again? What a weakling you must be to have to rely on cigarettes like that." "If I'm so weak why don't you go find someone else to talk to? I know you detest weak people." "Oh no, I can't do that, I've run out of people to talk to... And to play with." Amir added, looking up at me with a hungry glare. "Alright, let's play a game, it's called 'Injecting Derakh With Sodium Pentothol.'" I said.

"Wouldn't it be more fitting if we injected you with sodium pentothol? You're the liar after all." Amir drawled. "At least people don't get hurt by the shit I do." I told him. Then, suddenly he got up and sat next to me where I was curled up on the couch. "Come on Paige... I know you nailed Jay, I just want a turn." "I'm not a door knob Amir." I said, blowing smoke in his face. He coughed, then leaned in closer to me. He snatched the cigarette out of my hand and stubbed it out on the coffee table, then with more force than I'd have thought capable of him he pried my legs open and rested himself between them. I saw Ryan across the room and gave him a look that plainly said I needed help. Ryan sighed and stood, saying, "That's enough Amir, come on, get off him." "What are you gonna do about it?" Amir asked, staring at Ryan. "I'm going to inject your ass with thorazine if you don't quit it. Get off him." Ryan said, stepping closer.

Ryan could really take Amir. I'd seen them get into a fist fight once, and Ryan had won. I was surprised that they hadn't fired him over it but this wasn't a first class asylum. We'd be lucky if someone was fired over murdering one of the patients. But the screening proccess for personell was impecable so we'd never had a neo Nazi weirdo in charge of us patients. Ryan towered over us now, saying, "Amir, last chance man, I've got the injection ready right here." He held up the syringe to prove it. Amir sighed, admitting defeat and got off me, then wandered back to wherever the fuck it was he lay his evil head during most of the day. Ryan just shook his head, saying, "I keep telling Bobby we have to get rid of that asshole. He still thinks he can save him or something though..."
