Chapter 1

"No, No, No." Emma sighted, rolling her eyes. As glad as she was to be back with her former cast mates, she wondered why she let them talk her into these hair-brained schemes. One would think that they had never left the show, how easy it was for them to just start falling back into the old routine. It had been a year since Buffy had been taken off the air. Yes, she had worked on Bandwagon, and on an episode of Monk, but she otherwise had done nothing. She was enjoying her time off, relaxing.

Her agent, on the other hand, had other ideas. "You have to at least do a few conventions, Emma, or people will forget who you are." So here she was, at a Sci-Fi convention in Los Angeles, California. She was currently sitting in a small booth, signing autographs for a long line of fans that seemed like it would never end, sitting with Nicholas Brendon, Claire Kramer, and Charisma Carpenter. The convention was actually huge in size, one of the largest in the country, so there were other genre's there besides Buffy. They had people from Roswell, Star Trek, and Stargate Atlantis.

What her former co-stars were freaking out about was that today, for one day only, the Lord of the Rings cast was in town. Not all of them, obviously, but a few. Just on the other side of the room, they could see Karl Urban, Sean Bean, Liv Tyler, David Wenham, Sean Astin, and Billy Boyd. Charisma was happily squealing over David and Karl, while Nick, of course, was drooling over Liv Tyler being in close proximity. Although she would never admit it to them, she was quietly drooling over Sean Bean. She couldn't believe that he was here. National Treasure had just been released, and Lord of the Rings was so much bigger than the normal television show. The con must have paid big bucks to have the cast there, even if it was only for one day.

"C,mon Emma," Charisma giggled. "We'll go over, introduce ourselves, it will be fun. Aren't you dying to talk to them all, they're all so gorgeous, even the hobbits." Fun, Emma thought. Fun would be slipping off to a pub and having a nice pint of Guinness, away from the huge crowd of fans. Fun was not going over and making an ass of herself. She looked over to Nicky for help, but he was oblivious. Anything for a chance meeting at Liv Tyler.

"Char," she muttered, looking up at her. "When the guard gives us the signal, I'm heading back into the VIP area, having a drink and a smoke, and relaxing till the next autograph session. I am not going over to chit chat with actors that probably don't even know who we are. The end." Char looked at Emma, but gave up, seeing the look of resolve on her face.

"You're a spoilsport," Nicky whispered to Emma, trying to be quiet so the fans couldn't hear him. Emma contemplated this for a minute, her eyes deep in thought. She, of course, replied politely as she could.

"Tough shit," she said quietly, with a hint of a smirk on her lips. She then looked back up to the next fan in line, letting the matter drop for now. After a little while, the security guard announces that the cast would be taking a break, and they'd be back in a few hours. As Emma was escorted away from the maddening crowd, she couldn't stop thinking about those beautiful green eyes of Sean's. For a minute, she thought he had been looking at her from across the room. She had gazed up at a fan, and caught him in the distance, looking her way. "Nah," she muttered to herself, "Em, you need to get laid and quit fantasizing about long shots."
