Toshiya, Kaoru, Shinya and Die were sitting around getting ready for their live that night. Kyo's idea of getting ready was taking a nap on the cold, porcelain tile floor. Outside of the venue the bustling fans anxiously ran for the entrance as the staff opened the doors. Kyo was woken up by the loud screaming and instruments being played by the opening band. Kyo walked toward the couch and plopped himself on it. He flipped open his Zippo lighter and lit up his cigarette. Kaoru sat down in front of a mirror, checking to make sure his hair was sexy and shiny enough to be in an Herbal Essences commercial. Toshiya turned on his Gameboy Advance. The theme of Super Mario Bros. filled the air. After about 30 minutes they got ready for their set. All of them got in a circle and put their hands in the center.
"OK, everyone, do your best. Our fans are counting on us!" Kaoru paused, "Ready! SHAAA!!!" he screamed.
"SHAAA!!!" everyone followed.
The loud sound waves of G.D.S. blasted through the speakers and began to pump up the crowd. Every time 'KILL' was heard, the raging fans raised their right arms and threw their bodies back and forth. They all walked out and got into position. Shinya in the back, Die on the left, Kaoru and Toshiya shared the right side and Kyo stood front and center. Some time goes by and the began to finish. 'The IIID Empire' was chosen to be the song they ended with. Kyo dropped the microphone and walked off stage with a wry smile. Kaoru, Die, and Toshiya stayed to throw picks at the audience. Shinya threw his drumsticks. Then, they were gone.
About six or seven lucky fans were pulled away and were allowed to go backstage to talk to the band members. The roadies brought them backstage and they started to chat up Die and Toshiya. A blond girl with smeared drag queen makeup tapped her friend's shoulder.
"Hey, look," she pointed to Kyo, who took another drag of his cigarette. "No one has talked to him the whole night."
They watched him as he walked toward their translator. She nodded. Then, Kyo walked even further away from the crowd. Immediately, the girl quickly ran over to Kyo and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around slowly, thinking it was one of his band mates.
"Hi, Kyo-san! You weren't thinking about leaving were you?" she raised her eyebrow and smiled.
"Actually, yeah!" he looked at his dirty, old, black converse and then muttered, "Why do you care anyway? No one wants to talk to me so I might as well leave and go sleep!"
"But. Hmm. Don't take it personal. You know, about none of us talking to you. It's just, you can be very intimidating sometimes." the girl started playing with her red and black hair, twisting the ends around her turquoise-polished fingers.
"Me? Intimidating? I'm shorter than half the people in this room!" Kyo paused, "Next time, have a better excuse." And with that he left for the dressing rooms. Yet, she followed.
"Hey, Kyo!" The girl yelled out. Kyo turned, looking as if he were about to punch her.
"Maybe that's why no one came up to you to talk to you!"
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"You are a rude person. You're not exactly... what's the word," she tapped her chin while looking for the right word, "Approachable."
"Well, gee, sorry I had a bad day!" He ran his hands through his hair and scratched his head.
"What a great way to show your fans appreciation. Just because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed doesn't give you the right to act like a bitch to the people who love and support you!" the girl walked out of the hall as Kyo absorbed everything she had just said.
"Wait! What's your name?" Kyo asked.
"Lindsey."
"Listen. I'm sorry." Kyo bowed his head. "I've been having a rough week. I shouldn't of taken it out on you."
"About the tour?" she questioned.
"No. It's personal. I really need to be alone."
"Well, if it's bothering you this much maybe the best thing for you right now is to talk about it." she stood there in front of him. Kyo walked back into the room and sat down on the couch.
"It happened a year ago today." Kyo looked down. Lindsey turned her head. She walked back to the couch and sat next to him.
"He was the love of my life." he closed his eyes trying to picture his face.
"He?" Lindsey blurted out. "I didn't know you were..."
"Oh...oh! No! I'm...I'm not.. He's the only man I've ever loved."
"Oh, um. What happened?"
"His name was Nishio. He died last year."
"I'm so sorry." she lowered her head.
