Frank was walking behind the others smoking a cigarette and trying not to cry. Gerard was still alive. He hadn't seen the man in forty years and the last time they'd talked had been right after Bert had turned Frank into a vampire. It hadn't gone well.

"What do you mean you're leaving?" Gerard asked, eyes leaking tears and chest heaving from the sobs he was fighting back so he could speak.

"I mean I'm fucking leaving." Frank had said coldly, hoping Gerard wouldn't hear the sound of his heart shattering as he packed up his few things. Clothes, books, his beloved Pansy.

"Why? You said you loved me." Gerard sobbed.

"I" do, "did." Frank said, hefting his bag over his shoulder. 'I love you too much to lay all this shit on you.' he thought.

He'd been a vampire for almost a month by then and every day he thought about how tempting it would be to rip out Gerard's throat and how desperately he wanted to taste his lover's blood. It was too tempting and he didn't want to hurt Gerard. He didn't want to subject him to what he had become.

"Me and Bert are going away. Sorry." He whispered the last word as he walked out the door, so softly he wasn't even sure Gerard heard it.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Gerard asked softly from behind Frank.

Frank stopped walking as his friends got further away, but didn't turn around, "I didn't want you to know I had become a monster." it had taken Frank years to learn to enjoy being undead.

"I would have loved you anyway." Gerard sighed, "You know that."

Frank could only shake his head, "Would you still have if I had drank your blood one night when I was too drunk to control myself?"

Gerard placed and hand on Frank's shoulder and turned him around to face him, "Yes." he wiped away the tear that fell down Frank's cheek, "What happened Frankie? I deserve to know."

Frank sighed and went to sit on the curb, lighting another cigarette. He offered the pack to Gerard who took one, allowing Frank to light it for him.

"One night, me and Bert were really wasted. You remember how fucked up we used to get?" he smiled a little at Gerard's sad nod, "Well one night we're fucking annihilated off our faces and Bert tells me he's a vampire. I told him to prove it, so he bit me and turned me."

"Why did you leave with him?"

"Because every day I wanted to bite you. I wanted to taste your blood and I wanted to turn you. Every time we made love, it was all I could do not to sink my fangs into your throat. I didn't want to hurt you, so I left."

"Didn't you think about telling me? I would have understood. All I knew was you left me for Bert." What happened with you two?"

"We were camping in the park in Idaho and I woke up one morning and Bert was gone. He didn't leave so much as a post it to tell me he was leaving. I waited for a couple days, but when I figured out he wasn't coming back, I picked up and moved on." Frank took a deep breath, "What happened with you and Bert?"

"About a month after you left, he showed up on my door step with some story about you getting hit by a bus in the Grand Canyon and how sorry he was for what you did to me." Gerard shrugged, "I was young and heartbroken. We've been together ever since."

Frank shook his head, "I've still never been to the Grand Canyon. That's on the way to Vegas. I wonder if I can get the guys to detour for a bit." he mused to himself out loud before continuing, "I kind of always knew he wanted you for himself, I just never thought he would go this far."

Gerard snorted, "All these years." he rested his head on Frank's shoulder, making Frank's heart tighten painfully, "Tell me about your family?" he asked softly.

Frank smiled, "Roxy's our den mother. She took me in when I was living in a shitty one-room apartment and eating nothing but naive Goth kids. Ville is," he shrugged, "Ville. You remember him from that band I used to be obsessed with? He's the nicest man ever. We fight and shit, but I love him. Davey and Jade are still brand new vampires." He laughed to himself, "They're vegetarians." Gerard laughed with him, "Davey used to be a vampire hunter. Did Bert tell you about them?" he sneered at Gerard's nod, "Well he didn't tell me and Davey almost killed me because he thought I was this psycho vampire running around our town killing little pretend vampires left and right, leaving their corpses in the street. Actually, it's a really long story and the moral is, we're a bloodsucking Brady Bunch."

Gerard couldn't help but laugh, "Must be nice." he voice got a little sad, "It's been just me and Bert since Mikey died."

"How?" Frank asked softly. He'd always liked Gerard's little brother.

"They said it was natural causes. No one would tell me because I was dead already. Having myself declared dead has got to be the weirdest thing I have ever done."

"Yeah, I know."

"Frankie, are you really going to become human again?" he whispered.

"I think so."

"Until then, do you think maybe you could keep in touch? Its kind of nice to know you are rotting underground somewhere." Gerard blushed.

Frank shook his head, "I don't think Bert would be very happy about that."

"I don't really give a shit." Gerard growled, "I'm a little pissed at him right now."

"All right. Do you have an email?" Frank dug in his pockets for a piece of paper.

Gerard shook his head, "We don't even have a phone."

"Well here," Frank finally found an old receipt from Rhino Records in his pocket and a mini sharpie. He scribbled his cell phone number down and handed it to Gerard, "That's my number." he stood, "I should get going before they make me walk back to Upland."

Gerard stood as well, "Okay. Bye Frankie. I'll call you."

"Yeah." Frank started to walk away but paused, "Gee, do me a favor will you?"

Gerard stopped walking as well, "What is it?"

"Don't let Bert have that?" he pointed to the paper Gerard was stuffing in his pocket.

Gerard laughed, "I won't. Promise."

Frank waved and started walking back to where Roxy had left the car. He didn't think that they would leave without him, but he hurried anyway.
