Kate and Will had known each other since high school. As Kate sat in the bathroom holding a pregnancy test in her fingers, she wondered if that was worth anything in a situation like this. She didn't realise how long she'd been staring at the little test strip until William poked him head in the room.
"You've been sitting in here for almost an hour Katie. Are you okay?" He entered the room and closed the door behind himself. Katie just shook her head.
"Will," She paused, not sure what his reaction would be.
"What is it?" He was getting kinda worried.
"I'm going to be having your baby." There, Kate thought, I've said it. William looked at her, a huge grin forming on his face.
"Oh Katie!" He started giggling. "I'm so happy" Suddenly he put on a serious face.
"I was having trouble finding the right time to ask you this," He got on his knees in front of Kate and looked up at her "Will you marry me honey?"
Kate's jaw dropped and she couldn't remember how to form the word 'yes' so she simply nodded her head.
***Three Months Later***
"KATIE!!" William yelled. He ran as fast as he could, but there just wasn't time. Before anyone else could react Kate had been hit and the car was gone.
***The Next Day***
William sat in the waiting room at the hospital, he was supposed to be packing for the Sleeping With Giants tour, but he'd put it off.
Thoughts and second guesses ran through his mind, all of them horrible. He was starting to panic, no one was telling him anything, and his guesses at the outcome of the situation we're getting worse and there was no one to tell him he was wrong... or right.
Finally a doctors appeared in front of him and told him quietly to follow him. Siska put a reassuring hand on William's knee as Will stood up.
The doctor closed the door and faced Will.
"Hi, I'm Doctor Matthews, how are you holding up Mr Beckett?" He extended his hand for Will to shake. Will took the offered hand and nodded.
"right so, your fiancee Was the victim of a hit and run. There's good news," William's face lit up slightly at that.
"And bad news," Dr. Matthews continued. "The good news is that Kate is fine," Will swore he heard the doctor stress Kate's name.
"But that bad news is that her unborn child didn't." He reached over to put a hand on the younger man's shoulder. Will just whispered a thank you and left the room.
He returned to the waiting room and sat heavily on a bench. The doctor had followed him and told him he could see Kate and that she was awake.
Will entered Kate's room and smiled when he saw her face smiling at him. He sat himself next to her bed and held her hand.
***Two Weeks Later***
William picked up a sandwich from a plate and held it to Kate's lips.
"You haven't eaten all day." He scolded
Kate gave a small smile, "You don't have to feed me, I'm capable of doing it myself honey.
"Really?" William frowned and stood up, "Cuz that's not the way it looks to me." He crossed his arms and frowned down at her. Kate grabbed the plate and threw it in Will's general direction.
"Fuck off, ok. Just... Fuck you Will." She spat and rushed for the door.
"I care about you Kate, and I'm worried you're going to get hurt." He grabbed her arm and she spun around.
"Well, don't bother caring and don't worry. I'm fucking fine, ass." She could feel tears starting to burn in her eyes. She turned back around, tugging her arm out of his grip and ran out the door.
"Way to go Beckett." Siska quipped.
"Shut up Adam." Will sat heavily on the bus's couch, "ever since she lost our baby, I've been trying to do right by her, but we just seem to fight."
"I've noticed."
"Shut up."
"Maybe you're trying too hard." Carden offered.
Katie stormed down the row of buses and almost ran into Travis and Gabe.
Woah," Travis caught her, "What's up?" He looked a little concerned when he saw she was close to tears. He pulled her close ans she sobbed lightly into his chest.
"Will." She hiccupped. Gabe and Travis shared knowing looks and Gabe shook him head.
"Come with me, you can stay on the Cobra bus." Gabe offered. He extracted her from Travis's arms and led her away.
