Drummer Girl
"Can I have the mustard Aaron?" Emma reached a hand out as she unwrapped her hot dog.
Aaron handed it to her and made a face at the hot dog.
Emma noticed and laughed. "I'm sorry, I like hot dogs." She began to add the mustard, seeing it gross Aaron out even more.
"It's cool. I guess." He took the mustard back from her and put it back on the stand. He sipped his Diet Coke and continued to look disgusted.
"Well you don't have to stare at it." Emma turned away from him and headed back to the bus.
Nine Inch Nail's we're playing the Leeds/Redding Festival '05 in Europe. It was still morning and everything was still being set up for the band's, stages and backstage area's with food, etc.
Trent was sitting in the back of the bus when he noticed Emma walk up the steps and enter the bus. He saw her shoveling a hot dog into her mouth and chuckled.
She smiled at Brett who was sitting with Sully and Jeordie at the table as she walked to her bunk near the back of the bus.
Emma chewed quietly and licked a bit of mustard that had fallen onto her hand off. She looked to see Trent enveloped in his laptop and didn't say anything as she sat down to finish her food on her bunk.
He didn't look up as he spoke. "Hi Emma."
"Hi Trent." She replied, chewing as she scooted all the way back into her bunk.
When he did look up all he could see were her feet hanging out over the edge of her bed, swinging as she hummed while she ate.
"Do they have any other food out there?" He asked.
"Um... maybe. I wanted a hot dog so I just went to the stand. I think they might have pretzels or something." Her feet continued to swing back and forth, the laces of her shoes clicking occasionally on the little metal lace protectors of her Converse.
Trent couldn't help but smile at the sight of just her feet and the little hum coming from her bunk.
Emma was very adorable yet very serious, and stern. He'd learned she was very knowledge-able and well versed in many instruments. She played the drums professionally, as she called it. She also played the guitar and bass very well. She'd never taken piano lessons and held that against herself on a daily basis, but was very skilled on the piano nonetheless.
Trent had had many a practice with just Emma, whenever everyone else was busy or just had a conflict of scheduling. Emma seemed to always be available, her previous band recently broken up and her very eager to get back into what she called 'real music'. She was the newest addition to the group, having come in during the summer part of the With Teeth tour. Jerome Dillon had left due to health issues and later on just due to difference of opinions. Trent had heard through the grapevine of musicians he knew that Emma was one of the best and very free at the moment, having left the band Valley which he did not admire. It was very much the commercially accepted and manufactured band on MTV's TRL and other various media whore-ish mediums that he didn't pay attention too. Dave Grohl was actually the man that led him to her, Dave having met and hung out with Emma and who liked her very much.
Trent was skeptical but knew Dave was a good judge of character and a trustworthy source of information. So he got Emma's number and gave her a call to meet with him and play some songs. She fit in perfectly, he recalled...
