He was lost again, staring out the window into oblivion, clueless that anyone watched him quietly from the shadows. It was rare to see him so unprotected, so vulnerable. Outside the blackening sky was streaked with lightening and thunder rumbled dangerously in the distance.

Through the darkness and broken glass

He had given up asking him anything, once he was out of his trance the walls came back up and he made some off color joke and changed the subject. So he contented himself to watch, as if his very presence could bring him back or protect him from whatever inner demons ravaged him.

They didn’t often keep secrets from each other. He hoped one day he would feel secure enough to tell him where he went when he was lost inside his mind. Yet when he was like this that hope seemed a far-fetched dream and he could only wonder what had happened to him.

He was starting to puzzle things together though. He always did this when he got a call from someone. He would never go through his lover’s calls though. He desperately wanted to know who could hurt him like this but he couldn’t betray his trust like that.

A tear slid down his cheek and he absently wiped it away. Was he so far gone he didn’t realize he was crying?

He would love for nothing more than to run over and gather him in his arms but he almost feared the exaggerated happiness that would pull from him. He tried to cover everything with a smile or laugh and for the most part it worked. People didn’t pry when he laughed and told them he was alright.

Rain spattered against the window and the wind howled dangerously. He wondered if that’s what was going on inside his mind. Was it a torrent of emotions and thoughts that he couldn’t control or if it was simply nothingness; someplace he could disappear into when he couldn’t handle his emotions?

Another tear slid down his cheek and his body shook with silent cries. He couldn’t watch him from the shadows anymore.

He wrapped his arms around his waist and held him close to his body. Watery brown eyes looked up at him, vulnerable and scared. His lips kissed away the tear stains and he held him tightly, a life ring that could bring him back to reality.
“Don’t cry Brian, I’m here. Always, I’ll be right here.” He whispered.

A/N: So I’m listening to whiny love songs and I got in the mood to write something fluffy and cute so there it is. I’m not telling who the other person is, you can have it be whoever your little heart desires it to be. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a sex scene to write for "Wolves on Campus," lmao!
