“The newest flu strain that is spreading around the world quickly has the CDC worried about a pandemic. We’re here with Marcell Richardson a researcher from the CDC. Mr. Richardson can you tell us why this strain has experts worried?”
“Sure, Beth, this strain is different from the regular seasonal flu and even the more recent H1N1 virus that has the world on high alert. This flu is characterized by high fevers, dangerously high fevers, sever body ache and headaches, and hallucinations. We’ve already had several people die from this and we are strongly urging people to get to the doctor if they have a fever. That’s what’s killing people, the fever, if it gets too high your body will just shut down. So please, if you have a fever get to your doctor and take the medication he prescribes.”
“Thank you Mr. Richardson, again if you’re just joining us, we’re here with Marcell Richardson a researcher from the CDC. The CDC is telling people to seek medical help if they have this new flu. Now, Mr. Richardson if you don’t mind we have a couple of calls.”
“Not a problem.”
“Hi, you’re on the air, what’s your question for Mr. Richardson?”
“Uhm, hi, my name is Caitlin, and I was wondering how contagious this thing is? There are a couple of children in my son’s school that are out sick with this thing and I just want to know if it’s okay to send him tomorrow.”
“That’s a very viable concern Caitlin, I would suggest you keep him home for a day or two. This flu is extremely contagious and there will probably be some more children leaving tomorrow and the day after. If the school cleans properly though they should be able to contain the virus. I’d definitely give it a day or two so you have an idea of how many are affected.”
“Is this dangerous? I mean should I be taking him to the doctor to get him checked out?”
“Oh no, no. If he’s not showing any signs of sickness then he’s more than likely fine. I would only take him to the doctor if he develops the fever. That’s what you’ve got to watch for, other than that this thing is just like the regular flu.”
A/N: Alright! I hope you’re intrigued at least a little bit! This will be my annual Halloween fic so the rest will be posted late Friday night or early Saturday morning depending on when this party gets over. Love and candy for reading and reviewing!
