A Brief Encounter

Author’s note: This is my first time writing anything of The 69 Eyes subject. And it was a quick idea so don't flip out. Enjoy!

---story---
It was around six in the morning when I was making my way to work. As I was walking along I noticed someone running towards me. I didn’t know why they would be out on this cold freezing morning for. But any way I made sure to keep my guard up. Then out of nowhere I find myself struggling to keep my balance on what I realize is a patch of ice and the wind playing games with me. I finally managed to gain my balance only to realize I was actually being held up by a pair of arms. I turned my head to look at the person to realize it was the jogger.

“You alright?”

“If you let go.” I say, sensing something very odd about this man who was holding me up.

“Sorry.” He says, carefully letting go of me. Apparently hesitant about me falling on my butt. Like it would be the first time, I think to myself as I carefully struggle to hold myself up on what seems like wobbly legs. Okay, so I wasn’t one for balancing on ice but damn it I was gonna sure as hell try.

And of course in the end I ended up on my butt anyway.

“Maybe you should walk on the snow.” I hear the guy say and I look up at him. I don’t know why but I began to laugh my ass off. And when it finally passed I looked at a man who was kneeling down beside me wondering what was wrong with me. I was wondering the same thing.

“A natural drug you are.” I say to him and he gives me an odd look. “I just realized who you are. The situation I find myself in.” I explain to him and he nods his head, now understanding.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for you to fall down.”

“It’s not your fault. But you could help me up, please.” I laugh and he reaches out to take my hand as he stands up. Being careful we managed to get me up on my own two feet and standing in the snow where I had traction under my feet. I was wearing winter boots but apparently they weren’t very good as even standing in the snow I managed to slip again. He caught me and we both ended up on the ground….laughing.

“Okay. I’ve got to get this right.” I say as I sit up readying myself to stand up again. But he takes hold of my shoulder and I look at him.

“Something doesn’t want you on your feet right now so sit with me for a bit.” he says and I decided it couldn’t hurt. So I sat there on the snow, melting and soaking in my clothing knowing I’d have a wet spot on my butt area, and we began to talk.
By the time I looked at my watch I was two hours late for work. I couldn’t believe we had actually been talking for two whole hours. And I wasn’t even sure about what. But I did know I had enjoyed it.

“I enjoyed talking with you. But I do have to get going.”

“I did too, talking with you, I mean.” he says and I smiled.

“Maybe I’ll see you around some time.” I say, knowing most likely I wouldn’t but that was okay. I had this moment to remember.

“Maybe we will.” He says, agreeing and some how I had the feeling he would show up again. I find myself looking forward to that moment as we parted ways. I went to work and he continued his morning jog.
