Baby Can I Hold You

'Your wife's head injury is bad it may have been caused by her fall down the stairs. The hand marks on her wrists suggest someone did this to her. It wasn't just a fall down the stairs.' Carrie sat two seats away from Paul in the family room. The doctor was directing everything to Paul completely ignoring Carrie. 'Because your wife isn't responding we don't know what has happened. So the other doctors and I feel we should do a rape test, It's normal to do in these situations.' Carrie thought she was going to pass out, the idea of Paul hurting Kelly in that way was unthinkable.



'She wasn't raped.' All eyes feel on Paul.' I mean her clothes were normal, nothing was torn.' The doctor nodded.



' It's best just to check' The doctor stood casted a glance at Carrie before leaving her and Paul alone. They sat in silence Carrie knew if she talked she would want to kill him and she knew if he spoke she would want to kill him more. Her mind wandered to Elle the little girl was only four, she shouldn't be going through this. Her mother should be with her. The family room door opened causing Carrie to look up, Jeanne came storming in Jason and Ashley close behind.



'I came as soon as the hospital called....Where is she Paul, where's my baby?' Jeanne was gripping on to Paul's shirt begging him to tell her where her daughter was. Ashley and Jason came to Carrie both pulling her into a hug. Carrie could finally breath with them here she knew Elle would be safe, she could focus fully on Kelly.



Paul agreed to take Jeanne to see Kelly while the others stayed behind. As soon as the door closed Carrie was up on her feet pacing.



'You have to get Elle out of here......Jason please take her to Alyssa, take her so Paul cant get to her' Jason stood following Carrie to the other side of the room.



'Carrie what are you talking about...why would I take Elle away?' Carrie took a deep breath.



'He did this Jason.....Paul he was the one that hurt her.......and he cant hurt Elle so please take her now before he gets back.'



'I knew it.....I knew he was hurting her.' Carrie turned to Ashley. 'I begged Kelly to tell me the truth but she was so scared....I knew he was hurting her.' Ashley slumped back into her seat tears falling from her face.



'What.......how could he have' Jason couldn't believe what they were telling him. He had trusted Paul with his sister. Paul had promised him long before they wedding he would take care of his sister for him.



' Jason Kelly was leaving him.' Carrie sat down next to Ashley pulling the girl into her arms as she sobbed. ' Today she was leaving him today, we were going away. The three of us. Kelly Elle and me. He must have came home early and found.....I shouldn't have stayed away so long but Elle was so happy at the park I couldn't make her leave......Jason he has a history of this.....he's been hitting her for years.' Carrie was cut off by Jason throwing his cell across the room.



'That son of a bitch promised me.... he promised me he would be good to her.....I'm going to kill him' Carrie and Ashley jumped pulling Jason back from the door.



'Jason you cant.....we cant let him know you know........we need to think about Elle... if he knows you know he wont let you take her....please Jason Kelly would want you to take Elle away from here.' Jason let himself relax he knew they were right, he had to do this for Kelly.



The three of them sat side by side looking at the white walls in front of them. They knew what they had to do for Kelly and Elle. Paul and Jeanne soon entered both not saying anything, Jeanne was too shocked to speak. Another hour passes still no one speaks, they all sit side by side no one looking at anyone. Carrie thought back to the first time she realised she was in love with Kelly. She had been dating a girl from Kelly's management team Carrie knew she was dating the girl so she could be around Kelly more. Kelly was pregnant with Elle her feet had been bothering her for weeks, who knew a woman so small could put on so much weight. Carrie remember watching Kelly waddle into the room her stomach came in 10 seconds before the rest of her, but Carrie hadn't see anything more beautiful. She had a crush on her since watching her on Idol years before but these feelings she was having while watching the pregnant Kelly where so much more intense. When Kelly had told her how bad her feet were feeling Carrie has insisted on giving her a foot rub. While Carrie gentle rubbed the pain away from Kelly's ankles. They talked about the future what would happen when the baby came. Kelly had so may dreams she still wanted to fulfil, listening to her talk made Carrie want to be right there with her making her dreams come true. She knew at that moment she was in love with her but knew Kelly was married and in love with someone else so she promised herself never to tell her how she felt. Instead she would sit on the side lines and watch her dreams come true.



Now Kelly was in a hospital bed attracted to machines Carrie hoped there would still be time to make some of those dreams come true. They were all pulled out of their separate thoughts by two doctors entering, Carrie noticed right away how they looked worried. She prepared herself, prepared for the worse. She felt Ashley's hand slipping into her own as the doctors prepared to speak.



' I'm doctor Brown and this is Doctor Murray we have been monitoring Kelly since she arrived. ....Kelly woke up a few minutes ago.' This was all Carrie heard before Jeanne and Ashley jumped up hugging each other. Carrie looked at Paul his head was in his hands he was sobbing, Carrie knew it wasn't from relief. Once everyone became quiet again the doctor continued. ' She woke very confused and scarred.' Carrie could feel her heart hurting hearing that Kelly was afraid, she should be with her right now but she had to hear the doctor first. ' She's on a lot of medicine so we expected her to respond badly when she woke up........ but you see sometimes with head injures a lot of things can happen..... Kelly seems to have lost her memory.' Carrie heard Jeanne sob again. ' She doesn't remember what happened which is good but she doesn't seem to remember the last few years. She keeps talking about being in vagas....she says the last place she remembers is vagas..being there with friends...She says she's twenty-two.' The doctor stopped.



'We went to Vagas a while after she won Idol' Ashley stood up standing in front of everyone. ' Remember Jason?.... we all went together she fell up the stairs and cut her leg. ' Jason laughed at the memory, he had warned her not to wear the stupid shoes.



' So this means she remembers nothing after that?' Paul stood up. ' she doesn't remember me.... our marriage?'



' I'm afraid not Paul......it doesn't mean she wont remember but for now she doesn't.'



' What happens now doctor' Carrie asked.



'Well usually when this sort of thing happens we don't want to worry that patient so we let her think what she remembers.... this means people that weren't in her life then don't come into it now..... until she remembers..... now I know with her being your wife Paul that this is almost impossible but for now I recommend you don't see her.' Carrie smiled to herself, even though she wasn't in Kelly's life either and she couldn't see her she felt good knowing Paul wouldn't me near her too.
