CHAPTER 11 We talk a little more and then I return to my seat. I like her, she’s really nice. I see her almost everyday and this is the first real conversation we have had. All this time I could have been draining her for information. Even though it seems she would never tell me but it would have be worth a try. It’s now 6 am we will be landing in an hour. I have had zero sleep. Vin wakes up, comes over and sits next to me. "Have you read the interview questions? How’d it go," he asks. "Good, they did a good job of sticking to your criteria." "Easy work for you then," he asks. "I wish, 15 pages. Thank heaven I can’t read Japanese." I reply with a smile. I was trying to follow Electra’s advice but deep inside I just really wanted to just, slap him for hurting me. I excuse myself and disappear into the bathroom. Looking at myself in the mirror, I know that I am not ready for this. I have to just do it or it will never get done. I know at some point I will have to deal with him but not now. When I return to my seat he was getting his things together to wash and prepare for the day. I can’t keep my eyes from him. Standing with his shirt half open showing his chest. He’s such a flirt. The three days and two nights we were in New York he would do Letterman, Conan O’ Brien and Craig Kilborn. Things ran smoothly with Conan and Letterman. The taping of Kilborn was the problem. They didn’t have his wardrobe and their question copy was different from ours. Vin was rejecting every question that wasn’t work related and the show wanted them all. I had to pull out all the stops. His publicist wasn’t there so I had to negotiate an agreement between Vin and the head honcho of the show. Go to Armani and find him a expectable outfit 30 minutes before the taping started. Finding something and paying for the clothing in a rush. The pants were the wrong size, I have the manager of the store high tailing it across town in New York traffic. Five minutes to spare, he zipping up and on the camera. I really earned my paycheck today. After Kilborn we left New York for Chicago. In Chicago he had a full load. There he did it all TV, radio, lunches/dinners with contest winners. When ever you deal with contestnnernners you never know what to expect. The local radio station ran a promotion "Win A Date With Diesel." Great idea bad organization. The contest winner’ s prize was to be a limo for 4 hours and dinner for 2 at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse in downtown Chicago. He was to arrive at the house with the limo to pick him/her up for dinner and after dinner they to leave in separate cars. Had anyone been working the day he agreed to this. All of the plans were changed and neither Vin or his publicist were pleased. They had to postpone the prize date for two days before they could iron something out. I am on the phone trying to juggles his dates around as much as possible. Now I would have to be somewhat of a "chaperone" to this make shift date. "I don’t think I can handle this," I say as I scuffled through my suitcase looking for earrings. Some crazed fan with her hands all over him. The only joy I have in this is I don’t have to sit at the same table with them. But there’s a down fall to that, I wont be around to make sure she doesn’t cross the line. Putting on the earrings and a pair of high heel sandals. I stand in the mirror to survey my outfit. The sandals look nice with my boot cut hip huggers. I wore a blue shirt that looked kind of cloudy. My hair was straight with a little curl at the end. I head down to Vin’s room. I am wearing something very casual today. I need to be comfortable under this kind of pressure. He answers the door no pants, no shoes, no nothing. "Hello, do you have somewhere to be in an hour," I ask. "Yeah, I do but I can’t find my clothes," he says. "I hung them up here." I walk over to the closet and pull them out. "Great 5 minutes," he says running towards the bathroom. He comes out of the bathroom, I give him a good once over and we head down to the limo.
