Athena looks at the files on the floor and recognizes them quickly realizing what her friend just learned about her dear Dante. Squatting down next to Naomi she picks up the files and looks the pictures over. A strange smile forms on her lips and to Naomi's surprise, she sits down in a nearby chair and begins to explain them. Naomi stays silent, sitting on the floor listening carefully like a child being read a story.
"Reese and Dante met when they were just babies. They fell in love, but of course it was a love that was forbidden. Domenico would never allow Dante to be with someone like her. So Dante rebelled, ran away with her" Naomi interrupts her briefly, "Reese? Who is she?" Athena ignores her interruption and continues with the story.
"The Don kept a close watch on them both, making sure Dante was safe. He waited until their guard was down and then one day Dante went to his usual seller to buy some "˜party' supplies. Unknown to him the seller had been hired by his grandfather. He laced the heroin. Dante only did coke and The Don knew that, he never agreed with it but this time it worked to his advantage.... Poor Dante was devastated with guilt for a very long time" Athena eyes were watery, she actually felt sorry for this girl. "So now you know Joyce. If that's even your name" she places the files back in the cabinet, and holds our har hand and pulls Naomi up.
"You're a cop aren't you?" she says firmly. A debate arises in Naomi's head "“ what to tell her?
"No, I'm not a cop" both stare in each other eyes. Athena nods, knowing the truth, she knows she is a cop, she also knows Dante deserves to go down, but she can't help Joyce all she can do is not get in her way.
"You better get out of here before Dante finds you in here, he won't be so easily convinced" Naomi nods - she had just been spared, and she knows exactly why. Athena is tired of this life and Naomi has just become her escape plan.
Athena walks out the door and stops, turning around she looks back at Naomi.
"Sherice" she spurts.
"What?" Naomi questions.
"Reese... The girl in the picture with Dante. Her name was Sherice... Sherice Vetter" "“ understanding falls over Naomi. "˜Oh my God, he had a sister' it all made sense now.
