Baby Can I Hold You

Paul had agreed to let Jason take Elle away he admitted that the hospital wasn't the best place for her. Jeanne and Ashley had been taken to Kelly leaving Carrie and Paul alone in the family room once again.



' Why you still here.....she doesn't remember you.' Paul mocked.



' She doesn't know who you are either..... you leave.' Carrie wasn't going to let him push her around, she didn't care if Kelly never remembered her as long as Paul was kept away from her.



'She's my wife.......you seem to forget that.' Carrie smiled before turning to Paul.



'Your the one that forgets. You forgot Kelly was your wife the minute you started hitting her.' Paul took a step back studying her closely.



' So this is your attempt to save her...got say Carrie your plan sucks.' Elle's face flashed in front of Carrie, calming herself she turned back to Paul.



'She's going to remember..... one look at Elle and she'll remember everything...every time you hit her or put her down.....your going to lose everything..... family, job, home....if I get my way your freedom too.'



'Kelly wont say anything, she knows better.' He was being so smug, Carrie wanted to smack the grin off his face.



' I don't mean Kelly..... I mean the police....they aren't stupid, their at the house right now. Going over everything.....It won't be long before they're back here to get you.' That took the smile off his face, Carrie watched as her words sunk in, she watched as he realised he had finally been caught. She wished Kelly was there to witness it too.



'You know what..... have her......you want her you have her.' he was angry now, Carrie witnessed a little of what Kelly had been seeing for years. ' She's no use to be now....she's broken......useless.' Paul grabbed his coat slamming the family room door as he left.



Carrie couldn't believe he had folded so easy she was sure he would fight her all the way. Sitting alone in the family room Carrie allowed herself to break a little. Putting her head in her hands she began to sob. She thought about Kelly laying in her hospital bed bruised and beaten, she knew she would be scared but then again would she. Ashley had told Carrie that Kelly had changed so much over the past few years, Kelly wasn't the same girl that won Idol. Carrie didn't know her back then she really didn't know how she would react the this. That thought worried Carrie more than anything, what if Kelly didn't want anything to do with her after this, if she turned her back on Carrie and Paul , Carrie knew she couldn't cope with that if it happened.



Carrie was pulled out her thoughts with a small hand resting on her head, she didn't need to look up to know who it belonged to.



' I thought you had left already' Jason sat next to Carrie.



' I tried I really did....but the minute she realised you were left alone here she freaked out.....I had to bring her back in before someone thought I was kidnapping her' Jason sounded tired his niece was being very much like her mother.



' You promised me we could swim in the sea auntie Carrie..... You promised' Carrie looked up seeing Elle's big eyes focusing on her.



'I did promise your right.' Carrie lifted Elle up so she was sitting on her knee. ' But baby your mommy isn't feeling well right now.......I don't know when we can go swimming now' Carrie prayed the young child understood.



' Her brain fell out' Carrie and Jason gave Elle and odd look. 'Uncle Jason said she lost some of her memory......Her brain fell out' Elle repeated.



' Yeah......Uncle Jason is right.' Carrie gave Jason an angry look causing him to hold up his hands.



'She asked......It's your fault, Kelly doesn't leave me alone with her' He tried his best to get back on Carrie's good side.



'He's right Auntie Carrie he's not allowed alone with me..... Not since he taught me those words.....remember Uncle Jason.'



' Yeah Yeah Elle I remember........ I was sort of hoping you had forgotten by now' Jason gave Carrie a little smile but she was still looking at him like she could kill him.



'Teaching her swear words.....Nice Jason real nice.' Jason shrugged, he was saved by Jeanne and Ashley walking in.



'She's so confused' Jeanne scooped up Elle in her arms sitting the child on her knee. ' She really doesn't remember anything, we tried asking her about things but it's like her mind stopped in 2002....where's Paul?' Jeanne looked around the room searching for Paul.



' He left Jeanne.... I don't think he's coming back.' Carrie pointed at Elle hoping that Jeanne wouldn't ask anything else. Jeanne seemed to understand and didn't ask any more.



' What will we do with Elle?' Jeanne asked hoping someone had an answer.



' I'm going with Auntie Carrie Grandma....We're going to swim in the sea.' Elle said proudly causing Jeanne to laugh.



'Oh you are......and does Carrie know all this or are you just deciding for her?'



'She knows......Mommy was coming too.......we were going to a secret place away from daddy so he cant hurt mommy any more.'The room fell silent Elle had done it, she had done what Carrie couldn't bare to tell Jeanne. Jeanne nodded not saying anything, she had a million question but knew asking them in front of Elle would be wrong. Carrie knew what was going through her mind.



'Jeanne Ashley can answer any Question you have' Carrie looked at Ashley who nodded in agreement. 'But I don't think Elle should be here any longer it's getting late.......I can drive her back to my house.....she can stay with me until Kelly remembers.' Carrie hadn't thought of any of this until it was coming out her mouth, looking to Elle who had a big smile on her face she knew it was for the best. ' Paul wont be back I know that, I promise I'll keep Elle safe.'



'I'm sure you will Carrie.....I think it would be for the best.......I know Kelly will remember soon......I'll call you when she does' Carrie took Elle back from Jeanne holding her close to her body again. Before she made it to the family room door she looked back, she knew she shouldn't ask but she couldn't bare leaving without doing it first.



'Jeanne I know the doctor said she shouldn't see anyone she doesn't remember but for just one minute could I please see her......I won't be able to think straight unless I do.' Jeanne studied Carrie for a few seconds before agreeing she could. Carrie could have kissed the woman but she held back from doing so. Giving Elle to Ashley she promised the child she would be back she made her way towards Kelly's room once again. Her heart was beating so fast, she didn't know how Kelly would react to her.
