chapter 2
It seemed so long since I had been in this slavery kennel that, just the act of stepping outside was a real treat. The world outside was new and so beautiful compared to the inner walls of mold and brick. The outside world was filled with hope and the chance of seeing my family again.
"What shall we name you?" The younger prince asked as he made his way towards the carriage that would take us to the castle.
"Did you have a name before you came into Tanes hands, or where you born here?"
I glanced at the small red haired prince. I was quiet a bit afraid to speak, but I knew that I had too. It was bad if a slave never answers a master. But, it is even worse when they do not answer.
" I am from the Outlands. My name is Danika. Danika Maji."
"Well Danika," The prince began as he pointed to the others, naming as he went. "I'm Alex or AJ. This is Brian, Nick, Kevin, and Howie."
I nodded and climbed into the carriage, hoping that I would have a chance to escape. It was death to a slave that runs away, but I knew that if I could just get to the Outlands that I would be safe.
We rode along in silence until we reach the castle.. It seemed to loom over me with it's high walls and monstrous towers. The feeling in my belly knew that I was in trouble and had to get out.
"We are home." Brain spoke with a exhale of relief.
"Here, Danika, I will go first and help you out." Nick said as he climbed gingerly out and reached his hand out for me to take. "We will tell you of your duties once we are inside."
Taking his hand, I climbed out, holding my simple dress up so as not to get it anymore dirty then it was. The castle was a grand place. Painted windows and archways aligned the front with wooden doors placed here and there around the base. It was a sight.
Following the brothers, I only glanced up to see where we were going , hoping that they didn't see. I had to keep my head down or I would see the tail end of a wood beater.
Entering a room of six large, over sized really, chairs, the five princes placed themselves in one or the other, leaving one for me. Howie motioned for me to sit in the last one, placing myself between himself and AJ.
"Now, Danika, you said you were from the Outlands?" He asked me.
"Yes, Master," I stated, nodding my head.
"Do not call us Master." Brain said, leaning over to make eye contact with me. "Call us by our names." A nod was my reply.
"How would you feel about going home?" Howie continued.
My face lit up into a great smile. I would see my father again. And, ride horses again. I missed playing down my the river and catching fish. "I would be happy."
"We did not buy you to miss use you." Kevin said as he walked over to me. Bending down to look at me eye-level, he went on. "We buy you to set you free."
Tears rushed to my eyes. I could go home. Please, do not let them be spurring me. My heart could not take it, I thought.
