But she's engaged...

*Gerard’s POV*

To explain more about the whole Queenstar thing, it’s a legend to our people. A long time ago, the first vampire (and vampire king) created himself the perfect mate from a mortal woman. The mortals came after her and a war ensued. His queen ended up being killed in the fray and he trapped her spirit inside a black sphere. Her spirit had swirled inside the black orb, finally settling into the shape of a white star. Thus, the Queenstar was made. The King’s grief was overwhelming, and he couldn’t bear to look at the orb. He sent it to her family with his apologies and a letter explaining everything and disappeared into the night. It has been said that the queen’s family kept the necklace and passed it down through the ages. It was also said that the mortal female who wore it was bound to the vampire prince. That she was his perfect mate.

“I’m not going to tell him, Frank.” I said to my friend. I knew he wanted to protest, but simply went quiet the rest of the way. As we made our way through the labyrinth that led to our home, a sigh of relief washed over us. My father stood at the coven gates, waiting for us. He drew me into a tight hug and thanked my friends for keeping me safe. Frank started to tell him about Lady Jade and my father grew very excited. He turned to me after Frank had finished his tale.

“She wore the Queenstar? Are you sure, Gerard?” he asked sternly. I nodded. “Then you must bring her down! Turn her!” my father glanced at me, exhaling sharply. “Gerard, are you listening to me?”

“She’s engaged to a mortal.” I argued. “She’s not for me.” My father shrugged.

“So say mortal laws. Only you decide what is for you, my son. Do you want her?” I groaned. I really did not want to have a sex talk right now. “Answer me, Gerard.”

“Sure.” I sighed.

“Yes or no, please, Gerard.”

“Look, she’s beautiful, and compassionate, and oh, god, her eyes could hold another universe! Yes, I want her but she’s engaged to a mortal. I can’t have her!”

“Then go find her. Explain everything, bring her here. Does she love you?”

“You know, when I tried to kill her, I didn’t stop to ask.”

“If talking doesn’t work, kidnap her. You can’t lose her, Gerard. She’s everything to this coven.”

“I’d like to marry someone that actually loves me, Father.”

“She does love you, Gerard. She just hasn’t realized it yet.” My father chuckled and pushed me out into the night. “Go to her. Leave nothing left unsaid.” I started to argue, but I knew it was useless. With a huff I turned and walked in the direction of her manor. She already liked me? She’s only seen me once, and I tried to kill her. Well, I was going to feed off of her, but I’d chosen her because she was-is beautiful. Her hair is black as night, like mine, but it flowed freely to her waist. Her skin was uncommonly pale, her eyes bright green. Her eyes reflected an innocence nothing could destroy. The first time I’d ever seen her, she’d been crying in the woods. Her eyes were sparkling with tears, brighter than all the stars in the sky. I knew then that I loved her, but I could never admit it to myself. I knew I could never have her, and I couldn’t bear to let anyone else have her, especially some arrogant son-of-a-bitch mortal who didn’t love her. So I planned to feed from her and ‘accidentally’ kill her in the process, as cruel as that might seem. I didn’t see the sense in torturing myself by seeing her every day when I could never have her. But tonight I noticed she wore the Queenstar. I could have her…but would she be happy? Is it possible that she is my soul mate, but I’m not hers? Does it work like that?

Would she even be happy with me? With living underground, to never again see the way water sparkles like a million fire opals in the sunlight? I don’t know much about her, but I know she’s in love with nature. Would she be willing to give that up? I couldn’t ask that of her. It seemed a hopeless situation. I shook my thoughts away as I reached the clearing her manor was in.

Please review! I would really like to know what you all have to say...this is my first fanfiction on AFF. Please let me know how I'm doing!
