Chapter 30
Carrie stood back in the distance watching as Kelly and her family played with Elle in the garden. Carrie wanted to join them but something stopped her, something made her stay where she was, hidden in the door way of the kitchen. This seemed too personable for her, like she was intruding on something that didn't really involve her. This was Kelly's family, sure they had always made her feel welcome and you couldn't help but get involved in their life's somehow but this seemed to private to involve Carrie. So she stayed where she was and watched as Kelly enjoyed her family.
Kelly watched as her daughter giggled, it felt good seeing her daughter so happy. Jason was in the middle of swinging the little girl around while Ashley and Jeanne tried to catch her feet, every time they missed it caused Elle to let out another round of giggles. Kelly stood to the side happy enough to just watch as her family played. She could feel Carrie behind her, watching the scene in front of her. Silently leaving her family she made her way towards the kitchen door where Carrie was standing.
'The kid can scream right?'
'Im just happy she's happy' responded Kelly.
' She is that.......She loves attention.....think we might have a future diva on our hands.' Kelly turned back to watch Elle leap into Ashley's arms.
'Can she sing?' Kelly asked curiously causing Carrie laugh.
'Good god no........... the girls tone deaf....'
'Guess it must skip a gene pool.' Both stood silently side by side watching Elle. Carrie had a lot to say to Kelly but felt with her family around it would be best to wait till they were alone again, not that they were ever really alone. She knew Kelly had questions she needed answers to as well, eight years of her life was missing and she was getting bits of it back a little at a time. Carrie knew Kelly needed to know everything soon , it wasn't fair to leave her in the dark like that.
'Would you go on a date with me?' Carrie asked rather quickly. She had meant it to come out a little nicer than that.
'As in a date date....like a real date.......like picking me up and going out date?'
'Well yeah' shrugged Carrie. ' I mean I could go ask your mother for permission but im guessing those days are long gone.....but we could ask her to babysit for us......we could do it tonight.' Carrie didn't understand why she was now afraid of Kelly's answer, they had practically moved in together, why would a little date scare her.
' Would I have to pay or would you.....' Kelly stopped talking realising how stupid that sounded. ' I mean iv'e never dated a woman.... I think.....I don't know how it works.'
'Well I asked you so I would pay......and we could go somewhere nice and quiet away from everyone.....talk....about anything you want' Carrie watched as Kelly thought it over.
'A date would be good...I can't remember the last time I had a date.....and I really mean that'
'So that's a yes?' Carrie clasped her hands together waiting for Kelly's answer.
' It's a yes as long as I don't have to dress up to much.....im sort of a casual girl.' Carrie smiled at Kelly's joke yet she knew how true it was.
' I promise jeans and a t-shirt would work.'
'Then it's a date.' Reaching up Kelly lightly left a kiss on Carrie's cheek before going back out to play with Elle again. Carrie had a lot to do before the date, leaving Kelly and her family to do their own thing Carrie made her way towards her room to prepare for their date, she just hoped she didn't screw it up.
