Baby Can I Hold You

Carrie gripped the wheel as she heard Kelly sob once more, it had been over an hour since she had found her and Kelly still hadn't stopped crying, Carrie had tried her best to comfort her but every time she did Kelly would brush her away. She understood that she didn't want to be touched right now but there was a part of Carrie that needed some sort of comfort too. Her head and heart ached from fear, she didn't know what would have happened if Paul was successful in taking Kelly away. Trying not to think about it was hard, it was all Carrie could think about. Images of Kelly laying beaten in some field flashed in her mind once again and that was enough to push her over the edge. Stopping the car Carrie jumped out emptying her stomach on the side of the road, she stood bent over till she couldn't throw up any more. Hearing the car door open and shut Carrie waited till Kelly got closer before talking.



'I know you hate me.....hell I hate myself right now......' Kelly said nothing, just stood beside her looking out into the wide open. ' I understand......'



'You don't.' Kelly cut her off. ' You don't understand what it's like to be beat....abused.....pushed around......so don't say you do.'



'I'm.......'



'And don't say your sorry.........This is your fault.......if you hadn't been such a crazy bitch last night then this would never have happened.....'Kelly started pushing her finger into Carrie's shoulder. ' your silly little jealous mind almost got me killed......my daughter almost lost her mother again.....and again your in the middle of it.' Carrie stood stunned at Kelly words. He was so nice....' Kelly began to crack, her jaw clenching as she tried not to cry. ' He was nice to me....all last night.... he asked me questions' Pressing herself against the side of the car. ' He wanted to know about Elle.....he asked questions about her. ' Carrie watched as Kelly finally broke sliding down the car till she was on the ground. ' I did it again.....I fell for his sleazy talk......he managed to convince me he was an OK guy...how could I have been so stupid again. '



'I'm sorry.' Carrie cried as she slide down in front of Kelly.



'No it's me.......I shouldn't have said those things before.'



'No I shouldn't have gotten drunk last night.....it's my stupid fault.' Carrie felt Kelly reach out to her.



'Carrie I love you. ' Carrie looked up through the tears.



'You've never said that before.' Carrie wiped away the tears coming from her eyes.



'Yea I imagined saying it while we lay in each others arms.....or over a romantic dinner.......Not abandoned in the middle of nowhere while we play a game of it's my fault.'



'I love you too...you know.' Kelly nodded. ' I love you and I almost lost you.........I've never been so afraid my whole life' Carrie admitted.



I can't do any more drama Carrie.....I just want a quiet life with you and Elle.....I want peace. '



'And I want to give you that.' Carrie continued to wipe away the last remaining tears from her eyes. 'I want the nice house and big garden with Elle running around.......You and me sitting on the porch watching her.' Kelly smiled at the image. Picking herself up Kelly held out her hand for Carrie. But I want more than that Kelly. ' Carrie continued. ' I want to be at a party with you and introduce you to people not as my girlfriend. ' Carrie looked deep into Kelly's eyes.



'As your what then'



'As my wife.......I want to be able to tell people your my wife....that Elle's my daughter.........I want that right.' Kelly fell back against the car again.



'Are you asking me to marry you?'



'No....well yes but not right now.......I know that's not possible now....but I want that promise......that one day I can call you my wife.' None of that was meant to come out of Carrie's mouth, sure she had thought about it but never did she think she would say it, let alone say it to Kelly.



'I promise' Kelly whispered.



'You do?' Kelly smiled pulling her bottom lip into her mouth, she always did that when she was nervous. Pulling her into her arms Carrie started crying all over again.



'But you have to promise me something now.' Kelly asked into Carrie shoulder.



'What?'



'Promise to take me home now.....all I want to do is lay with you and Elle in my arms and forget this day ever happened.' Carrie smiled, leaving one gentle kiss on Kelly's lips before they got in the car and made their way home.
