Baby Can I Hold You

'Elle for the last time I don't know what the surprise is. ' Kelly watched as Elle dramatically threw herself back onto the bed.



'Grown people shouldn't tell little people about surprises until they have them....it's just cruel.' Elle complained causing Kelly to roll her eyes. 'And couples can't have secrets too.....it's bad for them.'



'Couple?' Kelly questioned sitting up.' you think Carrie and I are a couple?'



'Aren't you?......you kiss cuddle sleep in the same bed and she calls you baby.....isn't that a couple?' Kelly sat stunned looking down at her daughter.



'Your like really smart.......like really really smart., where did that come from.....where'd you get that big brain from.' Kelly asked as she rubbed her daughters head.



'Grandma says from her......but I think I really got it from you mommy' Kelly knew Elle was sucking up but she really couldn't help but fall for it. Laying back Kelly watched as Elle kept her eyes on the door, part of the little girl wanting Carrie back another part wanting the surprise. Kelly let her mind drift off to Paul, she wondered if Elle sat excitedly waiting for him to return, was he nice to her,did she love him, did she miss him. Kelly knew they weren't questions she would get the answers to, she didn't want to remind Elle of the past, the little blonde had been so good at forgetting the past and moving forward, Kelly wished she could do them same herself. She wished she had the strength to forget the past and look forward.



She watched Elle closely, the little things the girl done reminded her so much of herself. Kelly had told herself as a teenager she wouldn't have children, now as she watched her daughter she wondered why she would ever deprive herself of something so wonderful. Hearing the hotel door open she knew Carrie was back.



'Close your eyes' Carrie called from the door. She heard the smacking of Elle's hands as they hit her eyes straight away 'You too Kelly.' Kelly didn't know how Carrie knew her so well.



'They are.'



'No they aren't' Carrie shouted back.



'Do you think I would lie to you?'



'Yes.....Kelly shut your eyes I can see you in the mirror.' Kelly looked at the mirror before shutting her eyes. 'Much better......now as my meeting was a success I thought we should all get a treat.' Carrie entered the room holding the surprise in her arms, taking it to Elle first she held out the gift.



'A puppy' Screamed Elle.



'A what?' Kelly's eyes shot open seeing Elle holding a small golden retriever in her hands.



'A puppy and shh' Carrie whispered. 'we're really not allowed a puppy in here....I had to hide it in my coat.'



'It's a puppy...look mommy a puppy.' Elle lay back letting the small dog jump all over her causing Kelly and Carrie to laugh.



'You've lost your mind...'Kelly commented. ' Horses and now a puppy....how are we going to look after them?' Carrie pulled off the bed and over to the sofa.



'You can't honestly say that image.' Carrie pointed to Elle.' you can't say that image isn't worth it.' Kelly smiled as she watched her daughter roll around the bed giggling.



'It's worth it.'she agreed. ' It's worth it....' Carrie pulled Kelly down till she was sitting on her lap.



'She needs a friend....we've moved her away from everything she knows...all her playgroup friends...she needs something to focus on till we can get settled into a routine.....plus with the puppy to keep her company I get to do more of this.' Carrie pulled Kelly into a playful kiss his letting her lips linger a little longer than she should. Both turned to look at Elle who was too busy to notice the kiss.



'Oh your like the smartest person I know....' Kelly giggled. 'Elle.' she whispered. 'Elle' she repeated. 'Nothing...she can hear nothing........Oh this is going to be so much fun' Kelly clapped her hands as Carrie watched on laughing. 'Elle' Kelly tried again but the little blonde was in her own world rolling around the bed with her new dog completely unaware of anything else around her. Leaving Carrie to get back to her favourite hobby in the world, kissing her girlfriend.
