I just called to say...

CHAPTER 5 Back at home it’s raining and I sit by my window wondering if I should call him. It would be nice to hear his voice but at the risk of being rejected I decide not to. Just as I pull out my latest choice for reading my phone rings. "Hello," I answer. "Hi," my moms voice exclaims from the other end. "How was your trip?" "Fine," I reply. "You get a chance to do any shopping?" she asks. "No mom all business you know how the short trips go. How are you?" "Fine," she replies "Hoping to get out there to see you soon. How’s that damn spoiled dog of yours?" she asks."Jas"Jasmine she’s fine. I am having her groomed tomorrow. I’m a little late so she over grown a bit." "Mom can I ask you a question?" I ask. "Anything baby," she replies. "What would you do if you had feelings for someone but you don’t know if he’s feeling the same?" "Well I don’t know. Let’s see,....I think you will know by his actions. If it seems to like you one day it will always be there and if not I don’t think he’s worth it anyways," she says. We go on to talk a little more. I love my mom she’s such a sweetie. When I was younger we had some problems but now we get along just fine. You know the typical teenage girl stuff. As we are saying our good-byes. I get a beep on my line. "Hello," I answer. "Hello Keshia," a raspy baritone voice asks from the other line. "Yes," I reply. "It me." "Why hello me." "That’s funny. Are you busy?" he asks. "No not busy." "How was your trip home?" "It was good. I met up with my friend for lunch. We had a nice time, I hadn’t seen her in awhile. We had a scheduling mishap with Chicago. I just got home from the office. Took me all day to sort it out. You know things wouldn’t be right without one problem," I say. "Right. Good you got it straight. We will begin this thing in about 6 weeks. Everything running smoothly here. Watched the game tonight and per usual my team lost." The statement was followed by a lot of silence. I was thrilled by the fact that he called but I don’t want to seem to willing. Finally the silence is broken by Jasmine’s barking. "You have a dog? What kind," he asks? "Yes, Jasmine’s a Yorkshire Terrier." "There cute but to me little dogs are vicious," he says. We both laugh and continue on to another topic. Before I even realized it was 2 hours later and I had an early day tomorrow. As I attempted to end the conversation he seemed reluctant to go. I wanted to ask him so bad about this recent need to be more then Co-workers. Every time I came to close to blurting it out I would punk out. Finally he looked at the clock and insisted that he would let me go because he was sure I had more important things to do. Men why do they have to be so dramatic. If I didn’t want to talk to him I would have gotten off along time ago and I am sure he knows this. I had to reassure him that my only cause for getting off the telephone with him was to be well rested for tomorrow. Men! Hanging up I kicked myself for not asking him.
