Baby Can I Hold You

Carrie sat nervously watching the two empty seats as Jeanne handed out the hot plates of food, Kelly sat beside her unaware of the torment going through her mind.



'What they doing up there?' Kelly leaned over trying to talk to her girlfriend through the noise in the kitchen.



'I don't know'



'I'll go see.' Kelly stood up away from the table, Carrie tried to stop her but she was already out the door.





'Carolyn...Shanna?' Kelly watched a Carrie's mother and sister folded their clothes back into the suitcases. ' what you guys doing?'



'Kelly. Carolyn began.' This is nothing to do with you honey...I love you and I love Elle but this is all to much.'



'You don't like that im with Carrie do you?' Kelly suddenly realised.



'It's all to much.' Carolyn repeated. 'My daughter went from dating girl after girl to settling down with a child....I just don't see how this will end happily.'



'I don't see it ending.' Kelly sat on the bed looking up at the older woman.



'Kelly I know your not remembering the last few years ...but if you were you would not be jumping into this like you are.......of all the people in this world you and I are the ones that know my daughter the most....'



'Moms right Kelly.' Kelly turned to Carrie's older sister.



'So fill me in....why is me being with Carrie so bad.'



'My daughter can't commit.....I don't know how many phone calls you and I have had talking about the latest girl in her life.......it's always the same old story.......this is the one.....she's never felt this way before.' Kelly looked towards Shanna who nodded.



'So your telling me Carrie plays around.'



'Kelly im not here to talk bad about my daughter......I love her but she does not have a great record with relationships.' Kelly sat stunned on the bed as she listened to Carrie's mother.



'So she's going to cheat?.....get bored with me?'



'I don't know honey...I just think all this is too fast......I don't want to see her get afraid of things moving to fast and you and Elle getting hurt......you both have been through so much ....and now with a new baby here...I feel Carrie might break.......and I don't think I can stay around and watch her break another girls heart........I care too much for you Kelly to watch that.' Kelly tried to not let herself get upset with hearing what Carolyn had said, she knew the right thing to do was talk to Carrie about it and see her view on her mothers thoughts, but a small part of her believed fully what the older woman was saying and what could happen to their family if Carrie got scared.



'Look everyone is downstairs waiting for us....please just eat lunch with us and if you want to leave after.......I just....Elle really wants you downstairs...she's sitting next to two empty seats...please don't disappoint her. ' Kelly watched both woman nod and make there way out the room.





Carrie breathed a sign of relief as she watched her mother and sister come in followed by Kelly. Elle excitedly clapped her hand as her new Grandma took a seat beside her, While Kelly took her seat beside Carrie.



'Everything OK?' Carrie whispered in Kelly's ear while looking at her mother.



'Fine' Kelly replied.



'You sure?'



'Yes...lets just eat OK?' Carrie nodded, Something in Kelly's voice told her whatever happened upstairs wasn't a good thing. She looked back at her mother who sat stone faced listening to whatever Elle was saying.
