'I'm sorry I dont understand.....How could I not be married?' Kelly sat across from Paul's lawyer.



''Well ive spoke to paul about your divorce and he tells me your not really married......it was just a show for your family.'



'No that's not right....he's playing with you.' Carrie sat holding onto Kelly's hand.' I was at the wedding.....they were married.'



'I've looked into it and there are no records of your marriage......I believe Paul is telling the truth.'



'But...but why lie....why pretend we were married.?'



'It turns out my client was married before you ....in fact he's still married to this woman........She accused him of abuse some years ago and he disappeared before the case came to trial.'



'He's done this before?' Carrie sat forward in her chair.' Why are you telling us this....hes your client shouldn't you be protecting him.'



'My client denies all charges against him.......he denies abusing you and his wife......but he admits to lying about his marriage to you.....But that's not a crime. '



'So im not married to him....i have no connections to him?' Kelly smiled squeezing Carrie's hand gently.



'There is the matter of the children.......Paul has signed the papers giving you the rights to his son Joseph.....Just to you Kelly.....Carrie has no rights to him. If he is proved to be innocent he will be fighting for custody of Elle........'



'What about Joseph?' Carrie asked.



'He wants nothing to do with Joseph...he's signed all rights to Kelly.'



'Wait I dont understand.....why Just Elle.?'



'He doesn't see Joseph as his son.......he feels no connection but there is a connection with Elle.......he was her main career for four years and feeling the little girl will suffer without him.'



'Im sorry what?' Carrie stood not believing what she had heard.' Main career?



'He says that since Kelly's career was her main priority he took the job of raising Elle.....He just wants to be part of her life.' Kelly shook her head not believing what she was hearing.



'He had no time for my daughter....or anyone else.'



'Why am I the only one with rights to Joseph? Kelly stood beside Carrie at the desk. ' You said he's signed the rights to me and not Carrie why?



'Right....well my client feels that Miss Underwood wont be around for long.....He says her free spirit and fear of commitment will cause your relationship to fail....' The lawyer read the last part from the notes in front of him. ' He says he doesn't want to sign rights to Carrie in case it will cause problems in the future when you both break up.' The lawyer closed the notes looking at both singers.



'He's crazy.....he's doing this to get at me. ' Kelly raised her voice causing Carrie to move towards her.



'And your not going to let him do it. 'Carrie held onto Kelly shoulder trying to calm her down. 'Hes' not winning this..... he's grabbing at anything now....he knows he's losing.'

Both singers sat shocked in the car park of the lawyers offices. Trying to take in all the information they had just learnt.





'So im not married?'



'Nope'



'And im getting the rights to Joseph.'



'You are.'



'You know it doesn't matter right......whoever has the rights... it doesnt matter'



'I know' Carrie smiled.



'No I really want you to know....If we ever break up I'll never take them from you..'



'Kelly....Kelly look at me' Kelly turned. ' We aren't breaking up...... we're never breaking up....I don't care how sick of me you get we aren't breaking up OK?'



'OK......I just want you to know your their mommy.......we can't replace you.'



'I know ......anyway I was hoping when all this is over and he's finally behind bars ......maybe I could get some right to the kids.'



'How.' Kelly asked.



'By adopting them......I mean that's if you want that.....if they want that' Kelly smiled at her girlfriends nervous rambling.



'I'd love that.....they would too.....in fact I don't think it makes any difference to them......your already their mommy.' Carrie smiled nodding at Kelly words. 'Wait im not married.' the words of the lawyer came back to Kelly.



'we've been over this.' Carrie pointed out.



' I know but I really like saying it.....i have no connection to that sicko.......i was never his'



'You were never his....even when you thought you were.' Kelly smiled.



'Let's go home....i want to see our babies.' Carrie nodded putting the car in drive, she had the need to see them too.
