The Morning After

A/N: After nearly a month of zip, I finally got some inspiration! And I wrote three chapters! Frightening. So I'm back on A Tragic Affair, yay! Anyway, this chapter is short but it's because the next chapter has boysex in it. Thank you to those who encouraged me to go on, and to those who review this and let me know what they think. And now, Chapter 7.

**********************

The next morning I woke early, Mikey's limbs tangled around mine. I yawned and extricated myself from him, then tucked him in. He looked like a sweet little boy, or an innocent angel come to rest in my bed. Which made me shiver. I felt horrible, guilt was stinging every inch of my skin. I knew he had a fiance, and I'd just helped him cheat on her. It wasn't a good feeling, I just hoped that I'd be forgiven for it.

I went over to my closet and pulled out some clothes, then headed for the shower. Yeah, I needed another one. As the hot water hit me I thought about the previous night. I knew it wasn't really my fault, the magic had taken over in the strangest way possible. But I still could have stopped it. Not just that, but we didn't use protection and I wasn't on the pill, the worst case scenario being I'd get pregnant and get AIDS at the same time.

'Calm yourself.' I thought, exhaling, 'You are not sick, you are not pregnant.' And I knew deep down it was true. Feeling slightly more cheerful, I finished my shower and dressed. Today I chose a thermal, torn up jeans, chucks and a Cure shirt, all black. I combed my hair and braided it, then left the bathroom. I needed to clean up the mess we'd left outside the night before.

When I stepped out on the back porch, I lit a cigarette as I examined the remnants of the previous night's ritual. I'd even left the book outside. I sat down, opened it and flipped through, yawning. It was kinda early for me, I usually didn't get up at the crack of dawn. The book, as it turned out, was a book of codes for me to follow and had details on the lives of other witches in my family. It was a little dull, most of them were healers and not much else.

I could suddenly smell coffee, but I didn't think much beyond that it was probably my imagination. Until there was a cup sitting in front of me on the table. Mikey sat across from me at the table and smiled. "Thought you could use it." He murmured. I smiled back and took the cup, sipping from it. "My ancestors were kinda boring." I said non committedly as I perused the book once more. "Yeah?" "Yep. The most they did was offer home remedies to folks who couldn't afford a doctor." I flipped through a few pages and smiled. "They were all granted awesome powers, and were lucky because they never needed to use them."

"What powers?" Asked Mikey. "Control over the four elements, telekinesis, telepathy, prophecy and a very rare power to call death to their hands. Only one witch ever had it." "Let me guess, Melissa." "Bingo. And I might've found something useful." "What?" I turned the book over to Mikey and began to sum up. "About 50 years before Melissa there was Caisonia Sylvaria. She was the greatest clairvoyant in the family. She predicted Melissa's troubles before she was even born, and ours."

I paused, then quoted what I'd read. "And the last child of our line will use the greatest and most terrible power of our blood in the guise of our illustrious descendant. And she will save her true love and destroy her true enemy, but at a frightful price." "Okay... You sure that's you?" "I am the last, I have no siblings and all my relatives are dead. We're pretty close to being wiped out." Mikey sighed, then said, "How is killing them going to help? Aren't they already dead?" "Not technically no, just unwhole. I haven't got a plan yet but I've got an idea."

I stood up and stretched, finishing my coffee. My cigarette had burned out ages ago. "And for what it's worth, I'm sorry." I added, looking at Mikey. "For what?" He asked, surprised. "I helped you cheat on Alicia, and I'm sorry." He seemed to think about that for a few minutes, then shook his head. "You shouldn't apologize, I needed that, I needed to be reminded I'm still human and that there's still hope. And between you and me, I won't tell her if you won't." His smile was playful as he said the last.
"That's up to you, but it really is best to be honest." I said, shrugging. I headed to the door to go back in, but Mikey stopped me by asking, "Where you going?" "To contact Moth." I told him, then went inside.
